I've missed so much...what happened the past 2 weeks, folks?

PalmerEldritch said...

nada mucho.

got past the halfway mark in the LOST rewatch... of season 1.

have you checked out the myriad of LOST videos from Comic Con yet, kim? or are those too spoilery for you?

PalmerEldritch said...

p.s. we missed you. *single tear*

scrdmnkydst said...

erm, well there's the leak of the first episode title... but that's underwhelming.

other than that... i found out that Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince of Bel Air did the voice of Shredder in the cartoon on Teenage Mutant Ninja ("hero" for us UK peeps because the tv people thought that kids would freak out if we heard the word "ninja" on tv) Turtles.

My mind, it is blown.

t-dot kim said...

Thanks P...No I haven't seen any videos from Comic Con. Too Spoilery. (I'm probably going to see them before the season starts, lol)

Uncle Phil...what??

- i'm dodging LOST spoilers left and right out in internetica. Here be dragons mateys!

- well, i did it. i watched GI Joe. Stephen Sommers is THE WORST!!!! Save your money and your marbles and avoid it. oh my god, Stephen Sommers is so bad! THE WORST!!!!

- Stephanie & Chris, i listened to the Joss Whedon cast today. It was very entertaining, so much that i now have mixed feelings about your moratorium on talking about Whedon. I do think you would like Six Feet Under Stephanie.

- THE WORST!!!!

memphish said...

I've managed to avoid the episode title so far. It's not really spoiler-phobia leading to it, it's just I don't care that much right now with months to go.

I've been sort of kind of following the Paul Scheer stuff, but no so much that I've watched his video or anything. I'm pretty much over the inter-season nonsense. However, if Paul Scheer did manage to prank call Greg Grunberg, then I say good on ya.

Anyone seen Ben Linus welcome the ABC newbies to the ABC House? It's so unfunny, and the shows look equally unfunny if the ads I saw last night during Better Off Ted are the best they have to offer. Anyone got any new shows they are looking forward to?

And Kim, you should watch the Comic Con stuff. The ads are spoilery, but just to set you off speculating; nothing specific. And that in memorium video chokes me up every time. Oh wait, Kim's an ice queen.

Six Feet Under will be watched as soon as I finish Veronica Mars.

I forgot to thank Andrew for listening and to apologize for Chris' blareiness and for Robin's lowness. I forgot I usually turn up his volume. Or gain. What is gain?

Jordan said...

So get this peoples. I was put up in a hotel the other night for work. My room #....108.

Yeah Steph. You'd like Six Feet Under. Although admittedly I'd prob say that about anything to get you to broaden out from your Whedon/Buffy obsession. :P But no, seriously. 6FTU is good stuff.

Jordan said...

Ooooh! How cool might this be?

Possible Walking Dead series on AMC.

If done the right way, that series has the potential to be awesome. Still though, key phrase being, "if done the right way." The fact that AMC is attached gives me more hope than say one of the networks.

t-dot kim said...

Holli! Oh wait--you're right, I am an Ice Queen :P

Steph...no I wasn't in England this summer, but I've been to Muskoka, Ontario and over Montreal, Quebec (for 2 afternoons of helicopter training) and to Chicago. In between visits, I've been sleeping and recovering--mostly from heavy drinking and the smoking of natural herbs.

I've seen one commercial for Season 6. I'm worried I'll spoil it for myself, but I'm itching to watch more videos. Hummm...what to do?

- i look forward to a good Walking Dead series. And AMC is definitely doing a great job with their shows. Frank Darabont is a really good match too. I really enjoyed The Mist but i look forward to him getting away from Stephen King.

Walking Dead as a comic series has done a good job of retaining forward momentum without trying to completely change the premise of the book. It has resulted in there being a sameness to the drama but there is plenty of story for atleast 3 seasons so far.

- having a bad day because of hackers. >(

I'm a horrible blogspotter. Sorry internet. I'll try to stay up to speed, but summer is killer on me.

Can't wait for LOST.

JoeSC said...

Welcome back to civilization Kim!

I try to stay 100% spoiler-free, so I think as long as you skip the two commercials and AMW segment from the LOST panel, they don't give much else away.

If nothing else, you MUST check out the first two parts of "Mysteries of the Universe" on the LOST section of abc.com. Damn creepy and cool as shit!

memphish said...

Kate's mom (well Beth Broderick) is playing Nancy Grace on Leveage tonight.

JoeSC said...

Holli, how did you ever recognize her? Amazing!

I probably couldn't pick Kate's mom out of a lineup if I only had two options!

memphish said...

Rewatch baby -- rewatch!

Oh yeah, and I'm a Lost nerd.

Holli

JoeSC said...

Damn! Strike that last comment... I was totally thinking about Jack's mom since we've seen her for a total of 5 minutes...

Kate's mom is much more recognizable. I still probably wouldn't be able to pick her out on another show, though.

BTW, I'm doing my best to keep up with the re-watch, but it's coming along slowly. Before Season 4 I watched Seasons 1-3 with wife to catch her up with the show and before Season 5 I watched Seasons 1-4 with a friend of mine to catch him up on the show.

A full re-watch 3 years in a row is a little rough, but I'm totally committed! I'm just waiting to pick up the Blu-Ray for Season 1 and 2 before I start.

memphish said...

Jack's mom was on Hill Street Blues forever, so I'd probably be able to pick her out most places.

I rewatched seasons 1-3 before 4, but didn't rewatch the whole thing before S5. I find it easier to power through a season in a week or two vs 1 disc a week. So far I've rewatched seasons 3&4 in my mirror rewatching schedule. I'll start season 2 in 2 weeks once Kiddo's back in school.

Holli

JoeSC said...

"I find it easier to power through a season in a week or two vs 1 disc a week."

I completely agree with you. It helps to pick up the episode to episode connections a lot better. If I take too long of a stretch between episodes I don't catch as much as I do when I blaze through them!

PalmerEldritch said...

do you think Timothy Hutton feels bad about Leverage since he guest starred on Hustle?

or are the striking similarities between the two shows more superficial than i imagine?

a team of conmen screw over evil people every week by using their conman skills... same on both shows?

Jordan said...

Saw Funny People and 500 Days of Summer. Quite liked 500 Days. Very charming. Funny People was alright. Funny at times. But too long and inconsistant.

andrew. said...

- i thought "Funny People" was sort of like Judd Apatow's "Chasing Amy," a noticeable shift to more dramatic and heavily self-confessional. Also, like Kevin Smith, I like Apatow better when he's not trying for gags, and the humor is more understated. A solid 3/5 with a penalty for being noticeably too long but bonus points for making Jonah Hill a likeable character.

'Sup blogspot? (That was my Palmer impression.)

Here's a link to a free Swell Season tune.

School starts here on Wednesday, but it's only a 1/2 day which is stupid. Nevertheless, it's true.

Anyone other than me and Steph watching Mad Men? I didn't get to watch last night's episode 'til today, but I very much enjoyed it. I like the slow burn nature of the show. And I found a flaw in Jon Hamm. He has ugly toes.

In blogspot news, I heard Mac (of MB and Mac) featured on this song as I was cutting the grass today. It took me a minute to place him.

Stephanie said...

School is in the second week now. Middle school is so much better than elementary.
I am blind to any flaws John Hamm has.
I do not care for the weird dreamy flashbacks. How does Don Draper know what went on the day of his birth? Too bizarre.
I am going to make Morgan's week and take her to the live Riftracks event Thursday night.

- I'm going to give the Mad Men season 3 opener a critical pass since it felt mostly like a 'welcome back' establishing episode. Although, i agree the show doesn't need dream sequences. I hate dream sequences.

- watched all of "Being Human" series 1 last night. thanks for the recomendation Stephanie. I really liked it. sorta kinda reminded me of Angel meets Spaced.

Watched most of the Mad Men season premiere. That's the first (almost) full episode I've actually watched of the series and I was pretty transfixed. I'll have to check and see how many eps are on-demand to watch.

I liked the Mad Men premiere. It's going to be weird watching this season because I watched season 1 and 2 in about a week. I sure do hate that pip-squeak Pete. I see his face and I want to punch him out.

I can't believe I'm saying this--but I'm also into True Blood. I HATED the first 4-5 episodes, but something happened and I'm hooked. Even with my outright loathing of Anna Paquin, I'm still watching.

Is it worth it? Getting a PS3?

scrdmnkydst said...

omg kim, i'm loving True Blood. I've literally just finished watching episode 9 of season 2, and it is amazing. It's the best thing that's come out of this recent facsination with Vampires....

scrdmnkydst said...

HE'S GOT A FOOT FOR A FACE!?!

t-dot kim said...

He is butt fugly. I feel the same way you do about him for Anna Paquin.

I have a weird fascination with "Eggs". He's beautiful. After the ep you just watched, I now have a thing for Eric. Pasty white with blond hair usually doesn't do it for me--but it works with him.

Why are vampires so "hot" right now? I don't get it.

Sad to announce that E! will no longer exist in Canada as of August 31st :( How will I watch The Soup?!?!?!

Stephanie said...

Vampires have always been hot. There are continuously book series out. Twilight has just brought the vampires out of the woodwork with it's abstinent, teen love affair.
I still prefer Spike and Angel. Did I just list Spike first? Oh my.

Kelly Jo said...

I'm 5 episodes in and I can't stand Pete.

scrdmnkydst said...

Eggs? Everytime he's on screen, I am just constantly reminded that he was in Desperate Housewives. Yeah, i watch it. There. I admitted it. It's not as bad as Grey's Anatomy though.

I just looked at Anna Paquin's page on Wikipedia... I had no idea that she had won an Oscar. I don't think she's as bad as some people think *cough*Steph & Kim*cough*, but how she won an Oscar i don't know.

Pasty white guys ftw tho.

Kelly Jo said...

The Time Traveler's Wife. I read the book and I must have enjoyed it as I finished it, which is plenty rare for me and books but I can't be sure if I want to see the film at all.

I don't think things should necessarily only appeal to one gender and for my money, the book straddled the divide well enough but they really do seem to have made a woman's movie out of it which is no bad thing in and of itself, just wondering if I would find it interesting to watch.

Anyone seen it? Opinions?

scrdmnkydst said...

I read somewhere that The Time Traveller's Wife is just basically The Notebook with added time travel and a less believable male lead.

memphish said...

What can I say? BTW your discs are in the mail.

I read The Time Travelers Wife a couple of years ago. I thought it was a good novel and not overly a "woman's book" which is not a genre I enjoy. In fact it had things that were distinctly not the expected or sweet sort of thing you'd find in a "woman's book." Still I have no interest in the movie. I'm not a sappy chick flick kind of girl. Never seen (or read) The Notebook, for example.

Holli

Chris JC said...

Holli, his is exactly what I'm saying - while skewed largely to a female point of view, which one might expect with a female author and lead character (Henry is a big character and has his own sections but Claire is clearly the lead character) it certainly remained a book for all especially considering it's in the traditionally male dominated sci-fi genre but the movie doesn't seem to be interested in striking a similar balance, at lease not in the trailers/spots.

That and a plot development that takes up a massive percentage of the book is blown with casual disdain in the TV spots too.

scrdmnkydst said...

I think the genre name you're searching for, Holli, is Chick-Lit.

Chris JC said...

That last post brought to you by the Typographical Error Societie.

That's how they spell it.

memphish said...

Chick Lit is different. Chick Lit is epitomized by the Sophie Kinsella Shopaholic series (also made into a bad movie I hear). Chick Lit always strives for the humorous and tends to be the 20-something/30-something looking for love story or the 20-something/30-something dumps cheating man and is looking for love story. Usually it's looking for love in the big city no less and also involves an unfulfilling job that leads to a dream job.

Women's books, which Time Traveler's Wife certainly might have been, but wasn't, tends to be more dramatic books, women done wrong and overcoming that wrong, like Danielle Steel and those sort of writers.

I like some Chick Lit; I hate Women's books.

I'm going to see District 9 over the weekend. Everyone I've spoken to says it's amazing, now I think I'm going to be ruined if it doesn't blow my socks or flip flops off.

Steph, are you watching Dance Canada? Mia Michaels was at the Montreal auditions and I killed myself laughing last night at one part. Wonder if you saw it...

Stephanie said...

No, Kim. I wonder if I can find it online somewhere. A month is too long to wait for more SYTYCD. Another competition show that's on right now is America's Best Dance Crew. Not as good as SYTYCD but a fine replacement for the moment.

District 9 is awesome. It's like watching Michael Scott in Cloverfield. But better.

I got my mom and myself tickets to see Grease on stage today.

I thought it was meant to be some kind of leap in CG tech. Seems to be higher resolution and more detailed than before but still not to the point of fooling the audience.

Why is it that the bugs in Starship Troopers are still some of the best CG ever committed to film?

andrew. said...

- also the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.

- i haven't watched any footage of Avatar yet, because i'm hoping to be surprised all around, but i do think people's expectations are pretty exaggerated. This is probably because:
- James Cameron knows how to hype himself up
- all of the talk of this film redefining visual effects started 10 years ago when Cameron started talking about the movie, and despite his claims, other people do progress film techniques and technology
- the only people talking about Avatar for the past 10 years have been fanboys and they have a habit of buying into the rumors that they started themselves.

- i still like Thomas Jane. I just think his character in Hung is written like a moron so he has to play him like one. He seems to conveniently misread fairly obvious situations on a pretty regular basis, so the only way to play that with any consistency is to make him slow across the board.

Kelly Jo said...

"PROJECT RUNWAY STARTS TONIGHT.WHOOOOOOOOO" Thanks for the reminder!

Chris JC said...

If Avatar came out ten years ago looking like that then it would certainly have been something but as an non film-making observer I can't really see that it's much more advanced than Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within in anything other than the higher resolution renders and the number of things on screen at once.

I've just watched The Mist (and because I'm a poncey bastard, I watched the black and white version) and feel I can weigh in on the Thomas Jane argument. I can see the Lambert comparison but in various poses I got late 60s Shatner, older Chris pine (despite the fact that Shatner and Pine don't really look like each other) and mostly a younger version of the Signs model of Mel Gibson.

Kelly Jo said...

I'm sorry but I'm Tom Jane.
