From the end of the last thread:

"Rewatching Greatest Hits started making me wonder if we've watched pieces of at least 2 time loops. I'm not sure I want that to be the case, but at least it would explain the whole Charlie swimming or not and Claire on the helicopter thing."

Don't say that! You've come up with the ultimate cop out excuse for the writers! "Oh yeah, we forgot to ever go back to that story line. Uh...that was the other time loop."

memphish said...

I'm worried about that too Jordan. I really don't love the idea that what we've watched did not happen the way we thought it did or rather when we thought it did. At this point I think I want it to be the case that What Happened Happened. But if that's the case then I also want confirmation that Ben arrived on Island pre-1974 time flash for the 815ers because in The Man Behind The Curtain Alpert is rocking his long locks, but more importantly it's clear there is no truce between the Hostiles and DI at that time.

didn't... blogspotter mike (last name removed to protect the innocent) used to work there? and billy mitchell came to the arcade or something?

my buddy took his daughters up there the other week. no info on whether they broke any arcade game records though.

Finally finished listening - most excellent - per usual :) Aimee's diaper line got me too. Came close to doing a spit take w/some water.

I hear you Kim on having a double life. A bunch of my friends don't know about the podcast, as well as the people at work.

Also - HEY BRITS - a big 'holy S**T' to your National Health Service. I've got to think some conservative's head is going to implode from incredulity - or am I transferring what I think MY country's reaction would be onto you guys?

PalmerEldritch said...

"sure, you COULD go biking, play sports, go for a run, or take a dance class, but the first thing that came to this pamphleteer's mind was teenaged wanking and sex."

reminds me of the pamphlet sent out by some state government (NJ?) with a list of offensive things you should refrain from saying which they categorized by ethnic group. classy!

PalmerEldritch said...

also, i'd like Billy Campbell and Jennifer Connelly to star in an adventure movie called "The Pamphleteer."

Jamie said...

To be honest that leaflet hasn't really caused much controversy, I mean it got a mention on the news and some people complained, but it was nothing like what would have happened had it come out in America.

mb said...

"Pete Travers of Rolling Stone writes 'you're going to like what this movie hands you',
and Roger Ebert says "Campbell and Connelly deliver informational magic"

mb said...

Indeed Jamie I'm pretty sure America would have a collective coronary. I'm not personally knocking the idea of promoting a HEALTHY (key word) sexual life for college students, I am surprised though that conservatives don't seem to be making a bigger fuss.

PalmerEldritch said...

when they said for "school pupils" and "teenagers," i was assuming that it was for younger kids than college age.

i think it's redonkulous that they want kids to exercise for 30 minutes three times a week and all they could come up with was humpification (and self-humpification).

why not sports or riding a bike or something? speed walking? competitive bacon eating?

KABLAMO!

memphish said...

So if the kitten that followed Hubby and Kiddo home from their "jog" this morning is still outside my front door in the morning AND the vet says she is healthy then I've got a new pet. I've never had a cat before. What do I do to get the dogs not to eat it? Also, can you crate train a cat because that's what I do with my dogs? If we get to keep her we're naming her Ten because my son turns 10 tomorrow and it's sort of nickname for Kit-ten.

Holli

Jordan said...

Right on Palmer. Invincible is a whole helluva lot of fun. It's just so fresh and enjoyable. I didn't expect to like it, but went with a friends' recommendation. And I'm up to issue 50 now. Good stuff. Other comic dorks, you should check it out.

PalmerEldritch said...

supposedly, you can crate train a cat. but, uh, why? just want the litter box to be in a crate?

my advice for kittens is that if there's anything you want it to be used to when it's older, get them used to it when they're young. we got them used to getting their claws trimmed when they were kittens and now our cats dont freak out like every other cat i've known. also, we affectionately manhandled them when they were kittens so now we can hold them upside down, pretend that they're walking on their hind legs, and generally baby them and they don't attack us like a non-conditioned cat would.

just watched Confidence Man. two things. Sawyer was a jerk back in season 1. the other? ha! he was also emo. hilarious.

"i'm gunna stare at my letter and brood! no one understands me!!!!"

ugh.

also, this boone kid keeps making bad decisions. maybe he should find a role model and follow him around every where on the island. i mean, what could go wrong?

PalmerEldritch said...

i picked up the INVINCIBLE Ultimate Collection Vol 1 (hard cover) for $23 or $24 from Amazon cuz i don't have anyone to borrow them from.

you get about a dozen comics worth in each collection and it's been the most cost effective way that i could find without pirating or borrowing them.

also, the thin paperbacks have about a third of the contents (issues 1 thru 4, etc) that the ultimate collections do and cost half the price. so, picking up 13 issues in the paperbacks would have been 3 books for $12 or so each but only 1 hardcover Ultimate Collection for $24.

memphish said...

So the cat's still here. I get to go spend money on it at the vet. Yay! As for the crate, I just worry about it roaming about when I'm not here, especially while it's young. I can leave it in the laundry room I suppose, or outside. We'll see. A whole new world for dog people.

Sam got a DS for his birthday but we gave it to him back before we went on vacation. The relatives are giving him a new slew of games, but that won't be 'til Sunday for family birthday.

- what up blogspot!

- Palmer, your event sounds like it has the potential to be even more embarassing. especially if you stand up and shout "Razzle Dazzle!!" in the middle of their routine.

- "Bruno" was disappointing. Cohen is amazing at transforming himself and staying in character, but this just wasn't as insightful or funny as Borat.

- i'm releasing a record this week (my label, someone else's music). I've been hand-cutting covers (and my fingers) for the last 2 weeks. I'm super excited. yay!

- LOST BOOBIES!

PalmerEldritch said...

andrew., pimp the album. where can people buy it?

memphish said...

Dang I wanted that Kablamo, but given that Palmer is going to watch burlesque and I'm watching either The Muppet Show (Season 2, Disc 1) or golf rerun I guess he deserves it.

If any of you want to get to Memphis not later than 4 pm tomorrow we're having a birthday blowout bash. Kiddo turned 10 and instead of having one of those soul-numbing kid parties we're having an all-family birthday party. If you add up our ages we equal 100, so we're getting a water slide and a keg and invited friends for all of us.

Holli

Jordan said...

Too bad about Bruno. Although my expectations aren't exactly that high. The character just isn't on the same level as Borat. And it's just too hard to be able to pull off the same feat twice, especially after the success and attention given to Borat.

Anybody planning on seeing 500 Days of Summer? So far all I've heard/read has been positive.

Hope the burlesque show goes great Palmer. Hopefully they don't need you to fill in.

Best of luck on the record release Andrew.

It doesn't have anything to do with actual gameplay, but the Big Brother HoH uses Twitter as he/she wishes. It's only one way though. So when Jessie was HoH he Tweeted about how he was gonna be in the WWE and all this other nonsense. Now Ronnie (that fucker) is tweeting about how he is so unpredictable. It's interesting to see what each one wants to put out there to America...The America that follows the BB HoH on Twitter anyway.

PalmerEldritch said...

back!

burlesque show was OK. the galpal's friend wasn't performing which means that we didnt have to sit with her husband while she shook what her mama gave her on stage. which would have been awkward, i'm thinking.

some dancers were better than others. the drag queen MC was pretty funny and looked a bit like Dwight Schrute dressed up as Zatanna. some of the variety acts were pretty bad. but some of the dancers were really hilarious. and the band was great.

i think they should have had a Kate/Juliet Rumble in the Jungle Act with Whipped Dharma Topping.

Stephanie said...

Good luck with your label, Andrew.

Holli, I think it's funny how I would plan these huge, over-whelming blow-outs for the first few years only to be burned out about the age she really began having friends and enjoying herself. I don't think we're even going to do anything special this year since we will be at the beach. Maybe a nice dinner.

This is my first weekend off in three years just in case you didn't read this on twitter today. I'm really excited. I think we're going fishing this afternoon. Yay outside!

Stephanie said...

I have an alert set on my iPod to remind me when 500 Days of Summer arrives in town, Jordan. Morgan is psyched to see it too. Not sure why. Maybe it's the cynical nature of chick or that she's a Dechanel.

Did I tell you guys I finally saw The Brothers Bloom? Hilarious, clever, great. See it.

t-dot kim said...

So...I gave True Blood a try. Is it really that good? I wasn't all that impressed--it probably has to do with Anna Paquin. She's soooo annoying.

Nurse Jackie is funnier than I imagined. Anyone watching that?

Jamie said...

PalmerEldritch said...

holy fuck. that commercial is AWESOME.

love it.

Stephanie said...

Bad southern accents is the reason I can't get into True Blood. And because it crosses the line into sleeze for me.

andrew. said...

- i still like True Blood. The last episode was kinda bad in that it treaded a whole lot of water, but i'm still enjoying the show for the fun, sleazy, and weird show that it is. I could be wrong, but i think everyone has given up on the accents at this point.

- i usually watch Weeds & Nurse Jackie on On-Demand back to back as an hour that i really just turn my brain off. I don't understand what the point of Weeds is any more, because I find it neither funny nor intriguing. I love Edie Falco, but Nurse Jackie has just been a canned hospital drama, with plots that you've seen a bazillion times. I want both shows to be better, but for some reason I'm happy just taking a mental nap in front of them.

- i updated the web page for my record label with audio samples from the first record. www.TheHarmonySociety.com i don't want to hump it so this will be the last time i mention it, but i'm really excited and proud of it.

- I'm jealous of you seeing Brothers Bloom, Stephanie. I still need to see: Brothers Bloom, 500 Days Of Summer, Moon, The Hurt Locker... basically all of the good movies that came out this summer.

Stephanie said...

I mispelled sleaze. It's not that I have a problem with sleaze and smut. I like some trashy tv but True Blood seems to be sleazy for the sake of being sleazy.

Yes, see Brothers Bloom and The Hurt Locker. Now I'm on Duncan Jone's ass about getting Moon here to B'ham. Yay twitter.

Holli

Stephanie said...

The Island- like it's a character. Don't know when I started but I can't imagine not doing so now.

PalmerEldritch said...

and then when did you start calling it Jizz Island?

/younger readers, do not read this post

memphish said...

After Stranger in a Strange Land, of course.

Aimee and Kim you have to record a commentary for that episode before Aimee goes to the academy.

Question -- in Episode 4.1 Hurley gets told by ghost Charlie that they need the O6 and that they need to go back, but by the time we're seeing Hurley in the hospital close to the time they indeed go back Hurley doesn't want to go. So was it some "evil" spirit telling Hurley to go back, to not go back? Why the change of heart Hurley? I don't get it.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

i'd be a little wary of what a dead dude told me too.

PalmerEldritch said...

I'm pretty far ahead in the rewatch. Started season 4 over the weekend. Yeah...season 4.

I've watched toooooo much TV over the past month. I think I need a break.

memphish said...

When Naomi describes her team to Abaddon in Confirmed Dead she should have said "a head case, a ghostbuster, a raving bitch and a durrrunk." Charlotte gets less and less likable the more I see her.

Holli

andrew. said...

- just watched "The Hurt Locker". It was really, really good. There wasn't a single wasted scene in it. Surprise LOST guest star too (or is that 'featured cameo'?). This is a film you could recommend to anyone too because people squeemish of the violence would have to recognize that its based on what soldiers are going through as we speak.

- what if, instead of Dave, they had revealed that Arzt had been a figment of Hurley's imagination the whole time. That would have smoothed over his abrubt emergence towards the end of season 1 and the idea that Hurley would imagine him blowing up all over everyone would be really psychologically dark.

PalmerEldritch said...

if the Time-F@#kers time-f%^k the timeline enough with Jughead's premature detonation and we end up watching everyone land in LA, will Razzle and Dazzle be back on display at some point in season 6?

will Paolo clog a toilet in LAX?

will Sawyer never learn the timeless wisdom of "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret"?

Kelly Jo said...

If Nikki & Paulo are alive Mother Uckers(name the reference and you get 10 awesome points!) are going to die!

PalmerEldritch said...

happy birthday, trevor!

memphish said...

Season 4 was the season of bitchy women characters. I'd take Nikki back over Charlotte any day if she promised to twirl on a pole at least once.

Did TPTB ever confirm one way or another that Harper was real when she appeared in the jungle to Juliet? After the S5 finale I'm wondering if she's black (or white) smoke since she claims to speak for Ben (which makes no sense) and since she wants Juliet to do the killing for her like Man in Black/Flocke got Ben to do.

Holli

andrew. said...

- Damon & Carlton definitely said that she was real on one of the podcasts. They even played it like they couldn't believe that people were confused by the issue. I'm sure they could retroactively fix it so that she was the man in black or smokey.

memphish said...

Thanks Andrew. That's what I was remembering, but I was too lazy to look it up. With hindsight Man In Black makes the most sense given his take that they always destroy each other, the use of the whispers, Ben's captivity, and Smokey's scanning on Juliet.

Holli

scrdmnkydst said...

I always think of Harper as the same sort of deal as whatserface from Stranger In A Strange Land, the blonde sheriff.

Stephanie said...

I always think of Harper as the person they got to play the Richard Alpert part when Nestor Carbonell was busy on Cane. I'm probably wrong but that's the feeling I get.

And Kablammo.

PalmerEldritch said...

well done with the kablamo, stephanie! i'm so proud. ;)

i think Harper was just Harper. steph may be right that she got to fill in some juliet exposition that may have otherwise been a task for richard. although, i'm pretty sure that alpert wouldn't have been married to goodwin.

motha' uckahs! <- fotc.

memphish said...

But what Harper says makes no sense if she's just a messenger from The Others. Juliet is alone in the jungle, the whispers start then Harper appears. Harper tells Juliet where Dan and Charlotte are going, lies about their mission and says Ben wants Juliet to kill them. Then Jack sees her, the whispers start again and she disappears. If the Others wanted to stop Dan and Charlotte they could have done it faster and much more effectively than trying to convince the already turned Juliet to do it. I don't think any of the Others including Richard had any desire to re-integrate Juliet into their merry band of Latin speakers. I'm going to conclude she was the Man in Black until further notice.

Rewatching S4 I think it's going to be my least favorite of the seasons. A lot of it is a giant red herring trying to get us from the S3 finale back to essentially the same place in the S4 finale. There's a lot of mislead that gave us something to speculate on between episodes, but it all played out fairly straightforward and those misleads are a little bit insulting on rewatch.

Have fun at Comic Con lucky devils. If any of you see Will Wheaton, make sure he doesn't cut in line ahead of you. At the Emerald City Comic Con, a friend of mine was in line to meet his favorite writer Matt Fraction. And when he was next in line, Wheaton cut in front of him and proceeded to yuck it up with Fraction for a good 20 min. And no, I am not talking about myself. Just find the story very funny. Will Wheaton must pay!
