New TLI! Means I don't have to do the homework, right? TLI=cheat sheet?

heheheheheheheh. fantastic question!

i'm just a busy dude lately.

I love how you whittled down the two hours of talking (for the second time) down to a lean 50 minutes.

Good job ladies!

woot! Downloading now...

No...this is the review of LAST week's homework. We still have eps 5-8 for this week :)

Jamie said...

Quick question, does this wallpaper I made make me a big nerd or a massive nerd?

Also, on slightly related note I think I need a last minute cramming session, only up to Walkabout.

Jamie said...

Haha, I think I need a break for now, maybe i'll make another one after season 6!

PalmerEldritch said...

jamie, couldnt help but notice the horribly dying Charlotte. AWESOME. :p

Jamie said...

Haha, I know, but it could've been worse I could've used the ghastly pale Charlotte when she's shouting at Jin in Korean. At least she's down in the corner, out of the way.

Morgan said...

Just listened to the podcast. Regarding the casting process, I believe when they audition people they only have select lines for the actors to read. So when Jorge or Foxy reads for Sawyer, they're not really "auditioning" to play Sawyer, they're auditioning for an unknown role.

I do remember hearing that Yunjin wanted to play Kate and they were pretty much sold on her, but when they saw Evangeline, they loved her too much, so they wrote the role of Sun for Yunjin Kim.

I've always heard that when the show was in the initially conceived the pilot was supposed to die at the end of "Pilot (Part 1)" and the rest of the series was to focus on Kate's character trying to get them off the island. Kate was supposed to be the hero/leader of the survivors.

scrdmnkydst said...

It's so obvious from the first four episodes that Kate was supposed to be the main character. They focus on her so much while Jack just stays with the Marshall so much.

Also, what is wrong with pale people? >:L

Jamie said...

Just think we might never of ended up with this stupid love triangle if they'd killed Jack.

Also, there's nothing wrong with pale people, just This one in particular.

memphish said...

The original Kate, the one that Yunjin read for and that would have been the hero had Jack died was also supposed to be married and her husband (not Rose's) was in the back of the plane when it broke off.

Once they cast Fox and Lilly I'm sure they knew there was no way they could a)kill Fox and b)base the show on Lilly whose acting credits consisted of that phone chat line and being a dead body.

The rhythm of Season 1 was so slow, but still so interesting given that we knew nothing about these people and given the idea that we the audience was getting info. that the other characters on the Island didn't have in the form of the flashbacks. If the season mirror theory holds I'm not sure how S6 could mirror S1 just because the pacing would be so very, very different.

Someone asked to borrow my S1 discs today. It was hard to say yes, but I did. After all, if they don't come back odds are I can use it as an excuse to buy LOST The Complete Series once it's issued.

memphish said...

If you have Netflix, Season 1 and 2 of Dexter are available to watch instantly. I'd highly recommend Season 1 and S2 is good, but not as good as Season 2. Season 3 doesn't come out on DVD until August.

- I concur. TLI was great as always. Between the 2 day recording session & all of the technical diffikimaimees, Kim must have edited out 200-300 "motherfuckers". I'm sorry that i've never been very good about doing my homework.

- saw "Year One." That was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I think Harold Ramis & whoever edited that movie may suffer from some sort of brain damage, because it made absolutely no sense narratively or comedically.

- also saw "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen." Obviously Michael Bay suffers from his own unique problems. This movie was bad, but I actually liked it more than the first Transformers. The Shia LeBeouf plot didn't make much sense, but it made more sense than last time. Megan Fox's storyline was really mysogynistic, in a creepy, underhanded way.

- Somebody watch a good movie for me, so that I may live vicariously through you.

scrdmnkydst said...

I'm going to watch The Mist today, does that count?

Stephanie said...

Andrew., go see The Brothers Bloom, Moon and/or The Hurt Locker for me since none are playing here yet. I believe Ryan Johnson lied to me. The Brothers Bloom is never coming here.

Stephanie said...

Yes, the Mist is good. Quarantine isn't.

Jordan said...

If Lost had been centered around a heroic Yunjin Kim as Kate, it wouldn't have made it past a first season. Good thing Evey and Captain Jack showed up.

Jordan said...

Pitchman Billy Mays died. Not quite Jacko or Farah Fawcett, or even Ed McMahon. But yikes. The dude was just on Conan the other night. His jet black beard and loud voice will be missed(?)

scrdmnkydst said...

I will be proper devved when Barry Scott dies.

Stephanie said...

Bizarre! We just watched Billy Mays on Conan. I heard he was hit on the head with luggage on an airplane earlier that day. I haven't researched that though.

Jamie said...

Barry Scott is nothing compared to the Safestyle UK shouty man!

scrdmnkydst said...

but do you buy one and then get one free, i said do you buy one and then get one free?

Stephanie said...

I think maybe the writers got the idea for the "Charlie's going to die" arc while rewatching the previous seasons and noticed all his near-death experiences. Maybe.

Kate was so cool at first.

Jamie said...

I think all the characters were much better written in season one, I think the best example of this is Claire, I mean she's hardly even annoying in these first episodes! Also I noticed Hurley called Jack "Brother" in White Rabbit, so Desmond nicked his catch-phrase off Hurley!

PalmerEldritch said...

hello, blogspotica. 'sup?

just ordered some Invincible comics. anybody else reading that stuff?

going to try to watch some LOST tonight if we don't go out to the movies. the ladyfriend hasnt seen UP yet. so it's either that or a Transformers: Rise of the Horrible Stereotypes.

Jordan said...

Invincible is great. Didn't think I'd dig it too much, but gave it a go due to the suggestion of a friend. I highly recommend it.

PalmerEldritch said...

hope aimee feels better!

Jordan said...

Any famous people die yet today?

memphish said...

Not according to Twitter, my news source.

So what is everyone doing for Canada Day or the 4th of July whichever it is you celebrate?

We're going to my in-laws boat at the lake on Friday the 3rd. We'll spend the 4th back at home. I'm pretty sure the Hubby thinks he's playing golf that day. We'll see.

As for Canada Day I plan to celebrate by taking the kid to swim practice, using the treadmill, doing laundry, and going to the farmers market.

Holli

Stephanie said...

I'll be working. My supervisor just volunteered to work for me but I called in last Sunday in protest of having to work a holiday and then the next 9 days. So because I'll lose too much pay to take off. I'll be working now. All day. No bbq for me. Oh well. I'll be off some weekends from now on. I don't like work. Why can't I be independently wealthy?

Jordan said...

Working. Speaking of which, gotta go. Later bloggers and blogettes. Don't have too much fun.

John V. Holder III said...

Golf on the 3rd...then being lazy and maybe doing some studying. On the 4th I'm going to a friend's cookout and then the 311 concert that night. Then I have to work the next morning. Ouch.

andrew. said...

- oh no! by rewatching season 1, Aimee contracted 'the sickness'. Luckily, if she makes it to season 3, it will all be forgotten.

- last night was Zombie night.
I finally saw "Dead Snow" the Russian movie featuring Nazi zombies. It was more traditional, teens-in-a-cabin horror than i was expecting but still pretty fun.
Then i watched "The Devil's Tomb," starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Ron Pearlman, the pretty lady from Battlestar Galactica Razor & Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Jason London. It was bad, in a clunky direct-to-video way, but not unwatchable.

- I want to sleep through the Fourth Of July, but my neighborhood has been warming up their fireworks for the past couple of months. I bought sparklers. :)

scrdmnkydst said...

4th of July? Canada Day. Pfft. You guys are all so lucky. All i have is 3 months off from uni.

:(

PalmerEldritch said...

iPod on random just brought me from Giacchino's "All Jack'ed Up" to Led Zeppelin's "Communication Breakdown."

actually kind of cool. ;)

Jamie said...

Scrdmnkydst, I can't tell if your being sarcastic or not, but i'm actually hating having nothing to do! Even worse i'm stuck at home in Blackpool! I wish I was back in America for the summer like last July 4th!

memphish said...

Surely you celebrate 4th of July in Britain don't you? Seems like it was a win/win in the long run. And worse case scenario this year 4 July is a Saturday, so at least you can celebrate that.

I'd love to get some fireworks, but it's so freaking hot and dry here I really don't want to start a fire.

Holli

scrdmnkydst said...

haha, no, we don't celebrate it at all.

can you imagine though?

Everyone keeping up with the re-watch. I should post a new thread for the next disc...

Canada Day! Yay! I should go out and document all the cliche Canadian things I'm going to do.

Drink a lot of Beer, and have some Maple Syrup glazed bacon...yumm!!

My rental of "Quarantine" should arrive today. I only want to see it to compare it with [REC] which it is a remake of. [REC] is splendid but the original Spanish subtitled version was never released in the US as studios think remaking it is a more surefire way of getting in an audience than expecting them to read subtitles. Shame.

I've done some digging and it looks like the original is finally getting a US release in a couple of weeks. Stick it in your queue!

Stephanie said...

Well good. I'll see REC. The only reason I saw the I assume lesser quality Quarantine is because my mother bought it and lent it to Morgan. This is not something my mother watches typically. I don't know how she ended up buying a gore flick.
Morgan heard on a podcast I was listening to about a film critic passing out during a screening of Grace. She's dying to see this now.

PalmerEldritch said...

huzzah!

Actually started in on the re-watch. Saw most of Pilot Part 1 last night.

oh man. it's like watching "LOST: Baby Edition." everyone looks so young.

PalmerEldritch said...

oh. HAPPY CANADA DAY!

PalmerEldritch said...

Tribute to Canada ;)

Morgan said...

Kim, you need to add a S1D3 thread in the Re-watch group (although I feel like I'm the only one that really posts in there). Finished "Solitary" and "Raised By Another" last night.

PalmerEldritch said...

morgan, you are a LOST watching machine!

me? i've got Ghostbusters: The Video Game to play! but i am going to put in a concerted effort to watch at least five episodes of LOST a week. hold me to that!

t-dot kim said...

Sure Morgan...the re-watch blog is pretty lame. I'm embarrassed. :P

scrdmnkydst said...

Palmer, how about the carrot & stick method. Everytime you finish a disc of Lost, you reward yourself with a Bacon Explosion.

You might die by the end of season 2, but you'd be happy.

Chris JC said...

I've been meaning to ask - did Ghostbusters actually come out multi region in the US?

Over here they lost their distributor again and so Sony stepped in to distribute it.

Guess how many consoles it's appeared on over here so far? Clue: they rhyme with Claymation.

Other formats pencilled in for the end of October

memphish said...

I enjoyed Party Down. It improved every episode.

Has everyone here seen The Bank Job. It was a really good movie. What a story and it's at least in part true.

Holli

PalmerEldritch said...

Ghostbusters is out on X-Box 360, Wii, and PS3.

The Wii version must be significantly different.

And the Blu-Ray is pretty sweet. Has a "Slimer Mode" or something which is picture-in-picture commentary and interviews during the movie.

Also, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II have been playing almost non-stop on the television.

America has Ghostbuster Fever. Or Swine Flu. One of the two.

Also, The Bank Job was good. That is true. Recommended!

Morgan said...

Kim (happy Canada Day),
I like the re-watch blog because it seems more focused on the episodes for that week (or Lost in general)...then again, it's pretty much just me. :) I think the Scott & Steve Blog is more inclusive of other topics & chit-chat as well as Lost. I have them both bookmarked.

I have to say though, I am loving watching season 1 so far with the "Missing Pieces" and bits of "Expose" & "The Other 48 Days" thrown in (semi-chronological). I don't hate Nikki & Paolo as much and I like knowing what's up with the 'tailies' as we follow the main castaways. I'm also getting Ethan & Dr. Arzt stories a lot earlier.

Aimee, I hope you feel better.

t-dot kim said...

HAPPY CANADA DAY, peeps.

What a crazy day full of Canadian goodness!! Had a pancake breakfast with Canadian bacon, drank a lot of beer, had 2 (maybe 3) Beaver Tails, and drank some more beer.

Just watched some fireworks, dramk some more beer, and smoked some herbal remedies...good times.

Sonny, thank Jordan for recommending Party Down. (I think Steph watched it too. I was thinking about watching Buffy because of her podcast :P, but...I don't think I'll like it.) Party Down is very funny and such an easy watch. "Are we having fun yet?" My favourite episode so far has been the Senior Citizen party. LOL.

Stephanie said...

I guess I need to accept the fact that Buffy might not be for everyone.
See my latest.

I've watched half of Party Down and have the other half on the iPod. I want to relish each episode. It's that good.

Also, I enjoyed the Bank Job a lot.

What I didn't enjoy today was Ghostbusters 2. Ugh! I forgot that sequels used to always suck. No matter how good the first was.

Morgan and I are considering Veronica Mars as the next obsession.

OMG, Kim! How great was each and every couple tonight?! Well, except for Randi and Evan. I voted for Ade and Melissa twice and the rest only once except for Randi and Evan.

PalmerEldritch said...

downloading your podcast now, Steph. need something to keep me sane tomorrow morning at work while i wait for Burger Day.

also, SET UP FOR

JoeSC said...

You know, I was really having trouble deciding what to do for the 4th, but I think you just provided a perfect blueprint for my entire day!

Need to work on the beaver tail, though... (TWSS?)

Happy Belated Canada Day Kim!!!

Chris JC said...

That was the most obscure 69 Kablamo I've ever seen.

The Wii version is a deliberate step away from the others with stylised cartoony graphics rather than a failed attempt to try and match those of the big boys.

I and Emily of Cue the Film once did an entire podcast episode about The Bank Job. Hey! it's still there!.

I also now own a copy. It has Keeley Hawes and Sharon Maugham (the woman from the Gold Blend/Taster's Choice commercials with Tony Head).

Oh, and STATHAM.

Stephanie said...

Sunloc, watch Buffy! James Marsters is awesome. Originally he was to die after one season but was such a fan-favorite lasted quite a bit longer than that. To say any more would be a spoiler.

Have y'all watched Virtuality? I found it boring.

What about Merlin? I saw Anthony Head tweet that they are filming series two now.

New Torchwood soon. I read on twitter that it's outstanding.

Chris JC said...

While I agree that it looks a bit promising this time, who on Earth on Twitter said it was so fab? it hasn't been on yet so I can only imagine it's a really biased fan or someone involved in the production.

That trailer is pretty special, though.

scrdmnkydst said...

Merlin? That BBC show that NBC bought? That's only just making it over there? I'm surprised. Surely it was on TV over here like 9 months ago...

scrdmnkydst said...

Chris - The first 3 episodes of Torchwood have been shown to the press already. The consensus is that it is in fact amazing.

Chris JC said...

In that case, consider my face shut.

Barrowman was complaining about the new format and it being five episodes but it could turn out to be the making of the series - one or two big epic five-parters a year.

scrdmnkydst said...

Huh. I read that he was annoyed that the third season had been cut to 5 episodes because he felt that the BBC were "punishing" him. But then he read the scripts and then left any preconceptions behind him.

I'm glad it starts on Monday, this way I'll be at home and be able to watch it on the 50 inch HD set instead of the little 24inch portable that I have with me at uni. Amazing.

Stephanie said...

Barrowman said that? What would the BBC be "punishing" him for? How arrogant. But I don't mind him being a bit self- centered. He's charming enough to pull it off.

Chris, Morgan is begging me to let her watch Death to Smoochy.

Chris JC said...

Barrowman.

What's your stance on her seeing Smoochy? Despite language I'm not sure what else would be problematic - it's got a really dark sense of humour as you know but I think you've said she really likes that kind of thing.

andrew. said...

- 'Virtuality' was mediocre. It looked really lush with some nice, vibrant colors popping off against the sterile white ship. The premise felt a bit like a frankenstein of ideas, none very original on their own, like Moore was hoping that if it went to series, he could just ramp up whichever element fans/critics responded to the most and let the others fall away.
If you can't tell, I'm still really angry with Moore over the ending of 'Battlestar Galactica', and i'm sure that it's flavoring my opinions of 'Caprica' and, now, 'Virtuality'.

PalmerEldritch said...

oh man. i've been psyching myself up for Comic-Con with this Collection of Cosplayers.

holy jeebus. hilarious! some of it on purpose.

Check out the human characters in THIS, Palmer.

PalmerEldritch said...

excellent, chris. they also have a lot of Katamri characters. bizarre.

i get a kick out of this guy dressed as Dr. Mario. oh, sorry. Dr Mario to you guys in the UK. how does Canada do that? "Dr" or "Dr." ? hmmm???

t-dot kim said...

Steph, SYTYCD was excellent last night. I agree with you about Randi and Evan. I didn't like their dance. I also didn't like their "butt" dance from last week. I hope they're in the bottom 3 tonight. My favourite was Kupono and Kayla. I also liked Ade and Melissa...although I am 100% sure that they didn't "randomly" get classical ballet. C'mon, she's a ballerina. Also how did Evan "randomly" get broadway...and Phillip "randomly" get hip hop--for the 2nd time. (Nigel is so transparent)

Chris JC said...

Palmer seems to be under the impression that games etc are completely localised for Britain. Very much not.

Even games made here (the main GTA games, stuff by Rareware) are chock full of US spellings too.

Chris JC said...

I realise Palmer is probably not under that impression actually, just felt like going on and on and on about something as usual.

Jamie said...

Yeah we do have it, i'm just not sure everyone knows it by name.

Chris JC said...

I realised after my one that including GTA, a series primarily set IN the US was a bit churlish, but I stand by the others.

Palmer, I'm not one for sying stuff like this but that's a REALLY unflattering outfit that Sun journalist has got on.

After MYSS got so much stuff wrong about Shaun of the Dead on the episode in which they're talking about that very movie, I'm no longer surprised by anything they don't know.

For crying out loud, they kept saying the ...Dead movies were directed by George A. ROMANO.

Holli, I actually talked with him for a bit. During a ferry ride from downtown Seattle late at night. He was by himself and we just chatted as there was nowhere to really go. I only noticed him because he said something to me in passing. Mainly talked about Seattle and random stuff. I Briefly mentioned Lost and he said that he might make a cameo in the final season. Also that he hasn't watched any of it since he was killed off. Surprisingly very friendly guy. Guess I won't dislike Boone as much when I go back to re-watch. lol. I now know what it's like to be Ralph and have a personal encounter with a part of the Lost universe. Hope I don't get the sickness.

It was just after he'd announced that he was going to leave Doctor Who after one series and he was on the Northern Line with a friend of his. I didn't initially register who it was, only that I recognised him, so I looked at him for slightly longer than would be considered polite trying to figure out where I knew him from. Clearly a man used to being started at in public, especially after going into a big Sci Fi series, he shot back at me the single most withering glare I have ever experienced. i genuinely felt like I didn't even deserve to be on the same train.

His friend got off and Eccles sat there looking gloomy until Camden Town, when he sodded off.

A lot of my other sightings are mostly UK specific or a bit niche. Examples:

Jerry Sadowitz
Paul Nicholls
David Quantick
Crispian Mills
Gavin Esler
Robert Popper
Peter Serafinowicz
Simon Pegg
Annie Nightingle
(last four not really valid as they're people I "hung with" at various events rather than passed in the street)

Loads - I know there are others I'm just not bringing to mind.

JARVIS COCKER

Stood behind him in the queue at HMV when he was buying some vinyl.

I was buying a Nik Kershaw compilation CD. That was not one of my cooler purchases.

I've seen famous people including Bill Clinton and Gerald Ford but never really "met" them. I once was on a flight next to Parker Posey who at the time I recognized from her time on "As The World Turns," but didn't speak to her. I've had dinner next to Peter Falk. We saw James Carville and Mary Matalin when we were in New Orleans this past Memorial Day weekend. We saw Don King in NYC. I saw Mike Tyson the last time I was in LA. I was on another flight with the Judds before Ashley started looking good. I saw Judith Light at the LA Opera. There's probably others from when I lived in LA, but that's all I can think of right now. I haven't had my coffee yet.

Chris, when you hung out with the Spaced cast, you conversed. Right?

Holli, you don't speak to celebrities?

I don't know which is appropriate: to gush over them or respectfully leave them alone. I guess it depends on the situation. Some love the attention. Some are sick of it.

Chris JC said...

it was just Pegg and Serafinowicz there but yes I did - but there were loads of us so we all did, so it's more a couple of comments than a conversation.

Also, I was dressed in a way that caused Pegg to simply point at me and that "That's brilliant".

It's not that I don't speak to them, but I've never really gotten the opportunity, except for Parker Posey and it was a long flight and it took me a while to remember exactly who she was and I figured she didn't want to be bothered given that she was riding in coach with me. It was before she became the queen of indie films.

I just remembered the most famous person I actually met; it was Wally Schirra the astronaut. I got to talk to both him and his wife. That was truly awesome.

I also saw people at the Republican National Convention like Elizabeth Dole and Bill Maher and Phil Gramm. Our law firm was representing the Committee and we were able to go walk around on the floor during the day. I saw Liddy Dole practicing the speech she gave before Bob was nominated. Saw Clinton several times in SD too. He vacationed there somewhat regularly. He and his motorcade would zoom down the street by our house. Fortunately I didn't get too close to him.

If Simon Pegg pointed to me and accused me of being brilliant, I'd be able to die a happy woman.

I'm dying.

I once shared a jacuzzi with Nicholas Brendan (Xander from Buffy), didn't talk to him though, figured he might not want to be bothered.

PalmerEldritch said...

i've never been in a jacuzzi with anyone famous.

Chris JC said...

Jamie, did he have those beefy upper arms that some folks tend to talk about?

Jamie said...

Wasn't really looking at him in that way so I can't really remember, I was just a bit star struck, he was kind of the last person i'd have expected to see in there.

Damn Jordan - hanging with Hollywood now. Nice one - glad to hear Ian was (it sounds like) down to earth.

Palmer - Are you going back to Comic Con this year? I know Ralph and Alirio are going. Any other blogspotters? If I win the lottery between now and then I'll go. I have tickets, but no air travel or hotel or time off.

hey, mb? i was listening to the most recent smodcast (kevin smith's podcast he does with his friend and producer scott mosier.) and they started listing and praising fan art people have submitted. one of the guys on there was named MB. i'm sure there are a ton of people on the internet with screen names MB, but was that you?

PalmerEldritch said...

yeah. we are comic con bound.

and looks like Ben'll be there too. here's hoping for Producer Ryan and Seattle Jimmy.

and Bruce Campbell so Alirio can have him sign the Chins book again.

Sonny, when Aimee is free. I think I may do a solo-cast so that we don't fall too far behind on the re-watch schedule

mb said...

Malcolm - lol - you're the second person to ask me about that.

No, unfortunately that was not me - wish I had that kind of artistic (visual art) talent. I was really enjoying some of the stuff they were describing though (on smodcast). I have to get over to the viewaskew boards and check that thread out.
