memphish said...

Our kickass elementary school Xmas party is tomorrow. I'd prefer a snow day. We're having perfect Tenn. winter weather. Sunny, 50 and no wind.

Tonight I get to beat out other parents for prime seating for the elementary school Xmas pageant and wait there for an hour keeping others away until the rest of my party arrives. I actually dreamt about this last night. Needless to say it was a nightmare.

Ok, I'm rehooked on Lost. If season one was about the survivors, season two was about the Hatch, three was about the Others, what is season four going to cover? Getting off the island? If Locke blowing up the sub meant the island didn't want Jack to leave, what happened to change the island's mind about Jack leaving?

PalmerEldritch said...

methinks Jack defies the Island by leaving. and then he becomes a broken man afterwards. should've listened to the Island.

Kimberley, the interview went as well as it could have. He speaks so fluidly and has a lot on his mind, that i didnt feel worthy of talking to him, which added to my nervous talking, which usually involves me not being able to form words that my mind is thinking. BUT, he seemed to enjoy himself. it went on for about an hour and 15 min. i will let you all know when the interview is up on geekscape.

Congrats to you two for getting this commentary scoop!

My mind was whirling with the legal logistics of it all. Did Jorge have to get "permission" to do this? Also, did he have any insights on the strike? I assume since he was in Cali that they're done filming.

Really really really...congrats! Who of us wouldn't just love to chill out with JG, you guys and watch TTID!?! You lucks.

I believe the submarine is a complete hoax. We've never seen it in operation. My theory was that ppl were knocked out, brought to the island another way, then placed into the submarine before they wake up.

As for season 4, I have no clue what it could be about. I'm staying away from all spoilers, and previews (as much as I can). I'm on disc 5 of season 3, and I can't believe how much of the story I've forgotten since the finale in May. Considering we still have SOOOOO much time until Season 4 starts, I may just watch the series again from the beginning.

Ralph, I'm happy to hear your interview went so well!

t-dot kim said...

P, I'm not really noticing anything new and exciting...there are some scenes where I'm like "Oh, ya...I forgot that happened."

Ralph- said...

smkgrl, the legal issue is not an issue. We kept the audio down on the episode, as to avoid copywrite laws. i added the disclaimer by stevi at the beginning to cover our ass a bit more. Essentially we are doing the same thing that Rifftrax does. Jorge didnt have to do anything except for show up to record his thoughts. if you listen, you will notice that there arent a lot of opinion coming from Jorge. He pretty much tells us facts and stories about the days he shot the episode. it was nothing but pure fun.

Andrew, i love the new series. I really love the characters, as well as the Saturday Morning Serial mentality in the storytelling. i think that the art in the new series is the best thing that the allreds have done ever. i get excited everytime a new issue it released!

PalmerEldritch said...

i'm waiting for the extended cut of the commentary where jorge discusses politics, religion, and the best way to kill a drifter.

lostpedia have some sort of timeline for that psychic guy who talks to Claire and Eko?

PalmerEldritch said...

rather than when he enrolled in college, i'm interested in when his kid dies and gets better, when he talks to claire the first time, the second time, and when he talks to Mr. Eko.

memphish said...

Claire - pregnant.

Couple of days later - visits Malkin who freaks on her.

3-4 months later Thomas walks. Claire back to Malkin who starts "you must raise the baby" stuff.

Probably about this time daughter dies. Eko starts investigating.

Claire tries to adopt out baby; pens fail. Claire returns to Malkin he gives her ticket for flight tomorrow.

Eko visits Malkin possibly same day, maybe day before. Case closed. Day of flight Eko meets daughter in airport (and Libby.)

Hope that helps Palmer.

It's my theory that Malkin discovered Claire was Christian Shephard's daughter and that Christian was paying Malkin to keep tabs on her and get her to LA to get the baby (and Claire) into his life.

Sucks about the 4400. There's still a ton of questions to be answered, and I thought that it ended on a pretty good cliffhanger in terms of where they were gonna go. I always figured that Tom Baldwin was gonna be the savior of the human race, once he took the shot (which we know is inevitable). But the show's not so exciting that I'm all torn up about it ... I have a confession to make.

I bought a ticket last weekend to Alvin & the Chipmunks.

But it was only so I could get into a sold out showing of Juno. I then followed it up by sneaking into No Country for Old Men, so any guilt I have about giving $ to evil family targeted garbage films is soothed by watching 2 good films. Although the super witty, too cool for school dialog in Juno at the beginning is a bit tough to swallow. 16 year old girls do not talk like 35 year old Jenine Garafalo's. But still, the 2nd half of the movie was much better and very charming, I must admit. And No Country, that air gun was so bad ass! I loved the nearly complete lack of soundtrack and score. Really set the tone/mood.

Anonymous said...

cheers for the link Steph.

Lost DVDs finally arrived so I'm considering taking a day off work tomorrow.

Finished all my Christmas shopping so I've resumed buying stuff for me.

[ally] said...

- AAA is playing 'body massage' er, i mean, Roadblock.

- LOST rewatch in full effect. i fell asleep 1/2 way through the 'I Do' commentary.
some observations:
>i still like all of the stuff with the Others.
>I even liked Elizabeth Mitchell's acting in the 1st 3 or 4 episodes before she turned the 'arch' up a little too high.
>'Further Instructions' is still terrible. The fact that the Boone dream didn't mean anything except 'go save Ecko from a polar bear' just made it that much worse. Remember how much people were trying to read into every aspect of that dream sequence?
>knowing AAA was desperate to get out of LOST, it was fairly obvious in the rewatch of 'Cost Of Living.'

Ally, I liked Juno. But I was expecting to really like it. It's a neat little movie. But as I said before, much of the dialog really bothered me. Juno the character, every single thing she says in the film is the wittiest, driest, most dead pan one-liner. That on it's own can be annoying. But have a 16 year old high schooler talk like that and it takes away from the realism of the movie. I mean, not only is this 16 year old girl apparently the most observant, cynical, witty commentator of our time. She also is overly versed in way too much before her time pop culture like 70's punk rock and classic horror films. I don't like movies that seem like they are trying to sound hip and irreverent. About 1/3 of the way into the movie I caught myself thinking, "Am I hating this movie? I told myself that I was supposed to love it. But I'm no so sure." In the 2nd half of the movie though, when the story takes over and it's not just a showy character exhibtion, finally for me the film loses that annoying "look how smart the writing is" element. And there are some truly endearing heartfelt moments between a few of the characters. Overall a decent thumbs up.

Jordan said...

Anyone else see Juno? Am I just being fussy? Also, what about No Country for Old Men? Did you like the ending? lol. I also just saw Into the Wild. Pretty good flick. Even though I loathe Sean Penn as an actor. He did a pretty good job directing.

It looks like the movie hasn't even opened here yet. The soonest I can see it is tomorrow, but most theaters won't have it available until the 25th.

memphish said...

I have returned from the Chipmunks and I'm very jealous of Jordan and his movie viewing, not that Juno is in the theater here yet either Ally. I've never watched an abortion (and no don't link to a video), but this was up there with a root canal without the drugs. There was some LOL potty humor moments, but damn, the parts in between were just freakin' dreadful. Even the non-blue Tobias Funke was dreadful. I couldn't stop looking at how crooked David Cross's lower teeth are.

Hopefully my 3 seasons of Arrested Development will arrive today, and I can try to erase the 'Munk madness from my head with some AD.

Jordan you aren't alone on the Juno thing. Critic David Edelstein agrees with you. I still want to see it though.

And Andrew I totally agree about "Further Instructions." I haven't rewatched "Strangers in a Strange Land" yet, and I like Ralph's point that it was necessary to fool me in the finale (no I didn't know it was a flash forward), but FI is almost certainly on my top 5 worst LOST episodes and could easily be #1.

One thing I forgot to say about Juno. Ellen Page, who plays Juno (and who was Kitty Pride in X-Men 3), depsite her over the top dialogue is actually very, very good. She deserves a lot of the praise she is receiving and will definitely be heard from again soon. And Michael Cera (George Michael from AD) was actually surprisingly good. I really like him, but I fear he is a bit of a one trick pony with his awkward, stammering teenager routine (although he is very good at it). But in this movie (which he isn't in a whole ton), he really helps combat the annoying in your face too cool for school vibe, as he is the most subtle, down to earth character of the lot.

After Holli referencing that one critic who had the same complaints, I went to rotten tomatoes and read some more reviews. I'm glad to see that more than a few people got the exact same vibe I did. Still, most always end up liking it. But here is a quote from a less than glowing review, that I found quite on the money:

"In one embarrassing scene, the husband and Juno spend an eternity name-checking classic punk bands and rare grunge-era alt-rock compilation CDs, a discussion which flows into a monologue comparing Dario Argento and Herschell Gordon Lewis. Not once does the scene feel legitimate, or even necessary, yet it’s here, simply because screenwriter Diablo Cody wanted to scream at us to let us know all the things she knows about in the hopes we think that makes her cool."

Word.

I'll stop talking about this movie now as it doesn't seem as if anybody else has itin their city yet, let alone seen.

[ally] said...

A few quotes from Holli describing Earl & the Chipmunks:

"...the parts in between were just freakin' dreadful."

Trevor McFur said...

Ally, I'm going to see Sweeny Todd next week; it's the newly-revived annual 'Trevor McFur and the in-laws post-holiday movie trip'. Three years ago, we saw, 'Meet the Fockers'. Two years ago, the mother-in-law wanted to see 'The Family Stone', which I refused to see on general principle. Mom-in-law, having never been defied on her movie pick, canceled the trip then and last year, and didn't speak to me for a week. So hopefully Sweeny (Sweeney?) Todd is a good one, because there's a lot of family harmony hinging on it.

He's charismatic as hell, but i have this suspicion that studios cast him when the script isn't strong enough and they need that Fresh Prince charm to carry the film. Plus i think that script was knocking around production for 15+ years. Still, my low expectations might pay off like they did for '30 Days Of Night.'

- Rough night of football. The Steelers won but, in the process, lost our all-star running back. curse of the Thursday night football.

> 'I Do' was great. The commentary was pretty good too.
> the surgery scenes are awesome, a great cliffhanger. Ben waking up on the table was a great surprise the 1st time through, but now it seems like a little too much.
> Sawyer vs. Pickett was great. I remember totally buying that they might shoot Sawyer and the scene still plays with a lot tension & emotion.
>Juliet's husband getting hit by the bus seems a lot less supernatural this time. He was standing in the street for a while, giving the established bus time to pick up speed and nail him.
>i love Tom, odd-bod and all. He has a great moment where he awkwardly introduces himself to Jack at a completely inappropriate moment & knowing Kate's not his type makes it even better.

Claire = Bad Wig because bad wigs are a LOST hallmark.

MC Gainey says that once he told Kate she wasn't his type and saw the internet speculation that Tom was gay that he decided to play it that way and flirt with Sawyer and Jack. That just cracks me up.

I just watched "Not in Portland." That episode is awesome.

- i extended the rewatch last night due to some Holiday related laundry (mom doesn't like the pants with the holes in them). Watched 'Flashes Before Your Eyes,' 'Stranger In A Strange Land' & 'Tricia Tanaka Is Dead' (with Dharmalars commentary).

-The Dharmalars commentary was awesome! You guys did a great job of getting Jorge to talk about the filming process without being fawning fanboys at all. It was a really interesting mix of perspectives, and of course funny as hell. It really wouldn't surprise me if you got invited to officially cohost a commentary on the season 4 set.

-Those season 4 promo shots are pretty bad. I'm sure there is already tons of fan speculation about why Sun is chilling in front of a different backdrop. Is that Spaghetti or Arzt on Hurley's shirt?

-Holli - thanks for the Tom article. I'll miss Mr. Gainey and his spectacular football celebrations.

-Stephanie - i think that's just a backpack (from the future) (will we even have backs in the future?)

-Sunloc - careful, you're getting my hopes up!

-'Stranger In A Strange Land' wasn't anywhere near as bad as 'Further Instructions.' It was annoying because it was completely filler, but it wasn't as wrongheaded. i didn't even mind Bai Ling & her rib cage as much. The Sheriff is still funny though because she's completely out of sync with the show. It seems fairly apparent that she was supposed to be a new big character, maybe a replacement for Pickett, but they cast the wrongenest wrong actress and dropped her.

i know whos in the coffin its john locke i think is because remember the news article it a name on it John Latham ok we fond out john's mom name was Emily Locke and she game john up and that he was adopted. do kids keep there parents last name if there adopted? and he called have use he's other parents last name. Tell what you think?

memphish said...

Locke was never adopted; he just had foster families. Still it's a good a theory as most.

And no I do not think the Boat People found the bird. Watch the trailer; listen to the guy with the eyes, and you'll know why I'm saying that.

It could turn out to be a Missing Moment, Alex with her slingshot nailing the bird with the note.

Merry Christmas, blogspotters.

sunloc, i'm of the theory that it's Michael in the coffin.

or maybe Jack was just so high that he picked some rando's funeral. kept sending the clipping to Kate and when she finally agreed to meet with Jack, she got to ask "why would i go to his funeral?"

that's my new [crackpot] theory. jack was so hopped up on goofballs that he attended a funeral that he randomly picked out of the obituaries.

steph, merry christmas to you! and that goes for all you crazy blogspotters.

especially you.

no, not you, the other one. yeah, you.

memphish said...

Yeah, I know you're talking to me.

I like that crackpot theory. You should submit it to J&J.

As for who I think is in the coffin, I think it may be someone we haven't really met yet. I'm leaning toward one of the boat/freighter people. I really have nothing to back it up, it's just a feeling I have.

Is it physically possible to gain 20lbs in 24 hours? I'm pretty sure I have. Come December 26th my treadmill and I will become reaquainted.
I still think Lindeluce don't know who exactly is in the coffin. I think they have their ideas. I think they're leaving their options open. I might be wrong. I probably am.

it's going to be mikail in the coffin.

PalmerEldritch said...

mikhail is kind of like our one-man Zombie Season.

i think Anon's idea of Mikhail in the coffin would be great cuz once Jack leaves, he'd just open the casket and ask the funeral director "so, did anyone good show up for my funeral? how about kate?"
