- yup. i visited the pretty blue background this morning after getting the e-mail. I have to figure that ABC has a contract with these people to deliver this game, and that they're probably not too happy at the moment. I kind of liked the ARG podcast dude's theory that the Oceanic 6 will enlist in the new Dharma Initiative as a way of getting back to the island.
- Kim, how was the football game? i watched it in bits and pieces last night but the Steelers were looking a little like clown college so i tuned out. Also, my interest in the helicopter footage is strictly for our favorite Artie-Pie-In-The-Sky, not with any disrespect to those affected by the tragedy.
- Jericho is pretty awful. I don't understand how a show with such a brave premise can be executed in such a cookie-cutter hallmark-channel sort of way. I've resorted to watching it with my DVD-progam sped up to 8x.
Doh! Sorry you're not enjoying Jericho Andrew. Maybe the earlier episodes were more Hallmark-y - I didn't really catch the show until after it got axed and then I caught up on a bunch of Seas. 1 (and then watched season 2. While I thought they certainly could have been less formulaic in the human drama, I thought it was pretty enjoyable.
In "sound business move but sucks to be me" news, Twitter are no longer sending SMS updates to the UK, rendering the experience largely pointless for me. This is not the worst news I've heard today but it's helping me stay in balance.
I for one really hope that it truly is Bigfoot in that freezer. My world would be a happier place if Bigfoot was in it.
Andrew, Jericho gets a little better as S1 goes on. Not great, but definitely watchable. I never quite understood the fever that some had for the show, but it's pretty decent overall.
I want to believe the bigfoot story but finding an illusive animal or family of animals that has been hunted and hoaxed a few miles from a road in north Georgia is like finding a giand squid in a lake.
Another thing did they kill it or did they find it dead?
are Yale and Book as similar as i imagine? besides both being fatherly looking older black male preachers/teachers with a hidden past (possibly crime or military related) on a space western where settler types disagree and work against an evil earth government?
Zakly! Yes palmer, Yale and Book are very similar except Book is not mechanical.I never really made that connection till now, but those stereotypical characters are everywhere.
Earth 2 was great! I bought the dvd set and rewatched it not too long ago.
Space Above and Beyond was another show that I liked. I think it came out the same year as Earth 2.
Man I wish I could get to Hawaii! I can fake French decently. Not as good as T-dot Kim though. Her radio voice definitely gives her an advantage.
The Bigfoot story -- isn't that the part of Georgia Josh Holloway is from? Having stayed in the hotel where Burt Reynolds stayed when he filmed Deliverance it does not surprise me at all that they would either a) fake something like that there or b) find something real like that there. It's probably just some guy who needed 40-year-old virgin style waxing.
Clone Wars may suck but we'll still be there because of the kid. We'll go tomorrow if it's raining or Sunday if it's not. It's got to beat Fly Me To The Moon in 3-D.
Hawaii!!! Why??!?! Well, it's filmed there, so--I can't be mad at that.
Andrew, the NFL game was...interesting...I was a little buzzed after drinking a few beers on the way to the game on an empty stomach. The Bills coming to Toronto has mixed reviews. CFL fans are not about it, and NFL fans aren't exactly Buffalo Bills fans (myself included). I'd say there were more Pittsburgh Steelers fans in the crowd. There were a few great plays. One kick return for a TD, and the game went down to the last second.
Congrats to Canada. Just saw that woman win her gold. I had no idea that women's wrestling was an Olympic sport. Maybe in 2012 we'll get foxy boxing.
From what the reviews say, the kids will probably love Clone Wars. But adults won't, and if you're an adult who grew up a Star Wars fan, a small piece of your childhood will die.
My wife has never seen the prequels. I told her that they're so bad that they actually hurt the original trilogy. She's like, "Come on, I don't think so". Then I told her that The Force is actually a bacterial infection. Then she understood.
i'm not sure if you can judge the NFL by a pre-season game. i'm not sure how seriously the teams were taking that game but usually pre-season games are about figuring out if individual players suck or not and keeping your good players healthy by not making them play the whole time.
steph, how about naming it... uh... um... yeah, i got nothing. :(
sorry. Culture Feed does sound pretty good. what's your new podcast gunna be like? hmmmm? i'm pretty interested.
Back from Clone Wars. So-so animation relying mainly on lots of bullets going back and forth. Horrendously bad dialogue. But the Kid, and all the others in the packed theater seemed to enjoy it. On the plus side it was pretty much non-stop action.
I can see what Carlton Cuse means about needing to be character vs. mythology driven. Having to see this Star Wars mythology through the eyes of characters I have no emotional connection to and who have no chance of dying given what I already know would be like being learning the day to operations of the 1970s ear Dharma Initiative coupled with a season of Kate backstories.
In summation, if you don't have a kid who wants to see it, don't go.
It's kind of a bummer that Lucas seems to have no comprehension of what made the original films so beloved to begin with. It's also sad that he doesn't know the difference between making a movie that will appeal to kids, and making a kid's movie.
mb, congrats on the 12 year anniversary. that's a heck of a wife. gave you two great kids AND she's put up with you for twelve years! :)
speaking of anniversaries, here's a romantic anniversary story i heard at work on friday.
my friend works about a hundred feet down the hall from me. he comes into our cubicle area and says "here's a lesson. don't ever let his be you."
"my buddy called me a few minutes and said 'congrats!' i said 'thanks but what for?' he goes 'dude, it's your ten year anniversary today.' so, i'm taking off early to go buy a gift for my wife!"
- Boba Fett flashdance was pretty great. I love stop motion animation. I wish it had opened with him riding his bicycle through Pittsburgh though. /hometown pride
- Jericho report - it gets better as it goes. There's a bunch more action now which leaves less time for the town to hang Halloween banners and spruce up main street for a square dance. I don't recommend it yet, but if they've stopped catering to the "Stars On Ice" crowd then it has potential. I still really like the premise.
- The Lost ARGs blog folks have stepped up with a couple of hard Lost puzzles to hold everyone over while the real-deal Dharma Initiative thing continues to do nothing. http://www.lostargs.com/
I did! Just saw it. Liked it a lot. The critics didn't "get" it. And when you hear the story is about stoners getting put into a dangerous situation, you can't understand it until you see it. James Franco is a comedian, not a dramatic actor. Don't know why he's been wasting his time lately. Two thumbs up!
I had to wake up early to go into work for a few hours. I get up, check a few things, have some coffe, watch TV for a few minutes, then head out. I get home around noon, have bagels with the wife, and decide to flip through the channels again before moving outsid to mow the lawn.
"Hmmm, that's weird, the TV isn't turning on. Oh, shit, none of the electronics are on.
"Let me check the surge protector ... it's been flipped, let me turn it back on. Wow, it's not turning back on. That's not good. LEt me check this here ... dammit, it's not the surge protector, it's the outlet that's bad. Let me check the circuit board. Oh, nothing's flipped. Damn."
So eventually I realize that it's not just one outlet, but half of the outlets in my living room that aren't working. So, ok, fine, I call an electrician, he'll be here tomorrow. So, I go and plug the TV into one of the outlets that I know is working, turn it on, and set the input to watch the TiVo.
"That's weird, there's no TiVo input coming in. Hmph, must have jiggled the wiring while I was back there checking the surge protector. Oh, wiring looks ok. Still no picture though ... screw it, I'll watch some cable and figure it out later.
"Cable's not coming through either. That's not good. Let me check the PS3. Not coming through either. That's really, really not good. [comprehension dawns] OH FUCK the TV's blown out! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
So some surge today blew out half the outlets in the living room, and my TV, through a fairly new, and expensive, surge protector. Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck..................
But I did go to Barnes and Noble tonight and buy some beach books for our vacation in a week ... The Time Traveler's Wife, and Four by Philip K. Dick (a collection which includes The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldrich). Plus, he wife is going to lend me The Da Vinci Code if the others prove too brainy for beach reads.
That is utterly disastrous Trevor! My sincere sympathy.
Time Traveler's Wife is really good. Definitely good for the beach. Philip K. Dick I think you just have to be in the right mindset. I read Man in the High Castle last summer and liked most of it, but didn't really get the end. And then I read Valis at the beach and really liked it. But then I was in that LOST finale mindset. And Da Vinci Code is a fun read. I liked his earlier book Angels and Demons even better.
Congrats MB and Mrs. MB on 12 years. A great achievement!
trevor, there's got to be some kind of insurance to handle that. and to get you a bright shiny new tv. but, yeah, that SUCKS.
as for PDK, i really liked Ubik; The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch; Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (aka Blade Runner); Martian Time-Slip; Time Out of Joint; A Scanner Darkly; Flow my Tears, The Policeman Said; and The Man in The High Castle.
i've still got to read Valis, three quarters of The Penultimate Truth, The Transmigration of Timothy Archer, and The Divine Invasion.
i'm pretty sure i've read The Man Who Japed, The Simulacra, and Vulcan's Hammer but only remember bits and pieces of them.
also We Can Remember It For You Wholesale has a bunch of short stories by PKD including the story that Total Recall is based on (very loosely).
i wish i could get back into being a voracious reader again. that was fun.
Last year I was reading Philip Roth's American Pastoral at the beach, maybe the worst beach read ever (good book but just a bad beach read). I need something that's gonna move a bit this year.
I don't think that the cost of the electric will be disasterous. The TV is still under warranty, but my fear is that they'll find some way to worm out of it. We'll see.
The outlets started working again earlier, then went out again. That actually worries me a little bit more (make that a lot more) than if they were just dead. Electricity flowing normally = ok. Electricity not flowing at all = not good, but I understand what's going on. Electricty sometimes flowing, sometimes not ... don't like it, don't understand it. I have this picture of crazy electricity just running around in there doing whatever the hell it wants to do.
But definite good news ... I tried the TV again, and it's working! It's flashing that the lamp needs to be replaced, but that's fixable a lot more easily than melted insides.
I've turned off the electricity that supplies those outlets at the circuit. That's the limit of my electrical know-how. I'm always frightened that I'm gonna fry myself.
- stay safe Trevor. Live to watch TV another day! maybe make the bagel time with the wife a romantic, candle lit affair.
- just watched Tropic Thunder. It's a good time. Robert Downey Jr. is fucking awesome in it. I'd even say that he'd make a good contender against Ledger's Joker for supporting actor.
Trevor - I second Andrew in saying be as safe as possible. It sounds like you are.
I'm always frightened that I'm gonna fry myself
fear is a good thing when it comes to electricity IMO
I hope everything only get better and more stable. I wish I knew a good electrician in your area. Unfortunately it's a little out of my neighborhood - lol!
Andrew - TOTALLY with you on Tropic Thunder. Laughed very hard and often. I would easily recommend it for Robert Downey Jr. alone (that and another actor who I won't mention here.) I've started a thread on the BBS for anyone who's seen it or doesn't mind spoilers - but this time even the spoiler guy says - see it first, you'll enjoy the comedy more I think.
- The Banana Splits are returning! I love the Banana Splits! I tried to record an intro the 'Lars to the tune of 'Tra La La' but it didn't really pass muster.
Considering we're dealing with the mentality of a group who thinks that they can contact the High School Musical stars using a Reuters comments field, then they probably should have just brought them out. I don't think anyone would have even noticed.
Hey, fuck it - I'm gonna crosspost that on the article, see if they print it. I'm technically attacking another commenter so they probably won't but still: SHEESH.
After taking 600 mgs of ibuprofen yesterday, my ankle is doing much better. I registered for school today, p. I have to decide if I'm going for a bachelors or an associate. Also have to decide between IT or programming. I'm thinking IT. Programming seems limited and tedious. I hate tedious.
steph, a bachelors is prolly more attractive to some employers but an associate takes less time and can always be put towards a bachelors later. right? that might be a good question for the admissions officer or an advisor or something.
My feet are ok. I'm nervous. I'm going on vacation on Wednesday and will be walking a lot. I hope that an Advil can subdue the pain for 6-8 hours a day.
Trev--sorry to hear about your TV/electricity troubles. I'd lose my mind if I were in your situation!!
MB--congrats on 12 years. ;) It must have been nice to have a weekend away w/o the Ace & Deuce.
Tropic Thunder...omg, soooooo funny. I teared up twice from laughing so hard. Pineapple Express...I think I hyped it up too much. I liked it, but didn't LOVE it like I thought I would.

or is there?!
p.s. hope she's not too bad off and that her foot heals nicely.
My mom fell off her SUV and injured herself. When you glance at it, it looks like she has a tattoo on her ankle.
Please tell me she was surfing the roof TeenWolf style before she fell off the SUV...
Seriously though, I hope your mom's brush with the Hoppening is brief and mild.

Someone besides me, please tell Jordan to stop "fake" posting...
Yes, it is getting out of hand. Canada has 0 medals. Came 4th twice--dead last the rest of the time. Embarrassing. It's not a good year for Canada.
Andrew, yes I have video footage of the propane explosion. I'll let know when it's been uploaded.
I swear! If Canada doesn't get any medals this year, we'll probably get one of those stickers they handed out to the really out-of-shape kids (it's amazing that I run for fun now :-) during participaction in grade school.
Doesn't Canada dominate the Winter Olympics? They have to clean house during Curling.

No. Really.
cheer up canada! there's always another opportunity 4 years from now. besides, we're not done yet there's still a chance to get at least one.

We'll see.
Weirdness...
Another thing over at the SPLOG
Trevor - I second Andrew in saying be as safe as possible. It sounds like you are.
I'm always frightened that I'm gonna fry myself
fear is a good thing when it comes to electricity IMO
I hope everything only get better and more stable. I wish I knew a good electrician in your area. Unfortunately it's a little out of my neighborhood - lol!
Andrew - TOTALLY with you on Tropic Thunder. Laughed very hard and often. I would easily recommend it for Robert Downey Jr. alone (that and another actor who I won't mention here.)
I've started a thread on the BBS for anyone who's seen it or doesn't mind spoilers - but this time even the spoiler guy says - see it first, you'll enjoy the comedy more I think.
still nothing in the ARG?
ARG's supposed to get moving tomorrow. We'll see.

Beyond awesome product. Damn complaining Brits.

/Has a son, not a daughter
hehe. i just noticed that Widmore Labs manufactured Sun's pregnancy test.
Funny the things you pick up on total rewatches.
- The Banana Splits are returning! I love the Banana Splits! I tried to record an intro the 'Lars to the tune of 'Tra La La' but it didn't really pass muster.
Hoppening update. Just walked 3 miles, so the foot seems to be in shape.
Holli
glad that you've recovered.
how're everyone elses' feet?
my toe is pretty good. might be all better.
"Dive in":
Bingo from The Banana Splits
my toe was feeling fine till i fell down the stairs twenty minutes ago. now my toe is killing me and i have a bump on the back of my head.
I'm so bloody clumsy.
The Hoppening is mutating into the actual full grown Happening!
Herlihy - stay clear of lawn mowers!
my feet/legs are doing fine. i hope i didn't just jinx myself.
Turns out there are at lot of people in town for Isaac Hayes' service.
Holli
steph, a bachelors is prolly more attractive to some employers but an associate takes less time and can always be put towards a bachelors later. right? that might be a good question for the admissions officer or an advisor or something.
i'm so sleepy and it's raining outside, not a good combination.
/set up...
I'm on the hunt for crazy cakes again. Who's the other bad cake nutter on here? Holli? Whoever it is - you should watch this.
Heck, you should ALL watch this.
TERRIFYING.
Oh bugger - that was 108....
CAKE-BLAMO!
That baby cake is scary.
So...what's up blogspot?
~K
Terrifying cake! You're supposed to eat that? Can you be prosecuted if you do?
Have a great and safe trip Kim!
Holli
It's the construction that terrifies me as much as the finished product. It's like watching one of the recent "gore porn" horror flicks backwards.
I think we're all aware of our feet given the Recent Events.
This book sounds fun and interesting.
Holli
Thanks Kim! We did indeed have a nice time - part of it spent watching Tropic Thunder as a matter of fact - lol. So F-IN funny!
RE: the cake - JEEZUZ! play that video backward (fast-motion) and I think you have a horror-short film you could title "Deconstructing Baby".
yeesh!
and re: the book - Harrison Ford as Meathead on "All in the Family"?
"I HATE SNAKES ARCH! I HATE 'EM!!"
fun book indeed :D
summercast? hmmmmm?
/checked his itunes
that cake reminds me of Kuato from Total Recall.
oh. and all the related videos are breastfeeding vids. wtf?!
Surely there should be a new thread then, to celebrate this new podcast.
/don't call me shirly.
You All Everybody?
This is not season one...
/jokes. love it, well nostalgic.
I guess since it's described as a Non Lost podcast, the TLI ladies decided it didn't merit a new thread here???
oops, I guess I didn't press the save button at work...new thread now :)
Spoke too soon... New thread!
