Ralph can't remember the name Patrick Labyorteaux and we get a bunch of awesome calls in on the Lars Line.

Yellow Sun- The Raconteurs
Batman Theme- Joel McNeely

YES!

15 minutes then I can go home, kick back, and listen to the Lars...woooo!!!

Heh. Just remembered that in music class in primary school we had to learn the words and a dance to Hernando's Hideaway.

Why? I don't know why. Not much to do with learning music, really. Well, apart from the obvious-singing, but nothing in the way of instruments.

We also learned how to play the glockenspehil (fancy xylophone; wrong spelling) to 'Wonder Wall' while singing at the same time. Which is why I can now play and sing WW. Useful skills.

Why yes, I am bored at work. My shoulder hurts. Gaaahhh....looks like rain outside. Typhoon headed our way. Oh fuck this running commentary.

not sure of who you're talking about since i haven't seen the metrobuzz thing but it sounds like a Dharmalars fan Ben and Ralph met.

i think his name was... Scott? although, maybe it was Steve. no no no. pretty sure his name was Scott.

he is a Dharmalars fan who recognized Ralph and/or Ben. so, he introduced himself and Ralph invited him to come watch the podcasting magic happen. he seemed like a cool guy but i'm not 100% of his name.

by the way, how cool is that? ralph invited some fan he had just met to come watch the podcasting magic. that's big time cool of ralph and ben.

Stephanie said...

Took notes.
1 yes, we are fierce.
2 Nothing wrong with Tom Cruise? He doesn't fit in with Star Trek or anything sci-fi. Big mistake.
3 Perspective- watch Taboo on National Geographic.
4 Hot Rod- if ralph- likes it, I expect I'll like it too.
5 You guys should invite listeners to call in their movie suggestions.

It's too hot to go outside. Will waste my day inside with the airconditioning.

The Hurley dude is named Stuart. We actually met him at Comic-Con last year. He was one of the people that blew our minds by recognizing us. He's pretty cool, so of course we asked him to come chill. He's actually the guy that told the documentary guy to come and interview us. If that documentary gets released and we're not on the cutting room floor, look for me, Ralph and Ryan.

Also, some dude shot footage of me stating that Lost would kick Shmeroes' ass, but I can't remember the website. Maybe Producer Ryan does?

Steph, I can definitely see why you might be against Tom's scifi chops, since Minority Report was apparently a steaming turd.

PalmerEldritch said...

ben, i can't help notice that your movie recommendation was our bus conversation. i feel famous.

oh. and you had met Stuart before? well, damnit, ben and ralph would've invited a rando if they had met one. cuz they're just that damn cool. but they didn't... yet!

DUDE - I totally told your "making coffee" story on our vidcast...it's in the 4th part, that I think will be out next week if all goes well...I was sort of worried that you'd be mad that we left it in, but word, I guess it doesn't matter now, hehe

PS Loved the last episode, finishing it as I type :)

Colleen said...

And, Ben, for the record, I liked "Minority Report" and I am not really a Tom Cruise fan

memphish said...

I liked Minority Report too. But Tom Cruise is just weird and MI2 was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, so even the Hanso thanks could not get me to MI 3, War of the Worlds or anything else the guy's been in lately. And his new haircut makes him look like Hitler.

Colleen, I totally enjoyed the vidcast. John did a great job editing and you did a great job on camera. Looking forward to the rest and I'm glad it's not smellivision given the inclusion of the coffee story.

Thanks for the Stuart info. And let us know about the documentary and the other thing. LOST would roundhouse kick Schmeroes to the ground and then break its neck with a mere pair of feet then run it down with a VW bus fixed with prayers, spit and 20 year old skunky beer and then a polar bear would eat Schmeroes.

Holli

Benjamin said...

Dude, Holli, I totally told that guy that a polar bear was going to eat Schmeroes! I was doing my bit like a WWE wrestler threatening the opposition, so it was full of vitriol and over the top yelling. Wish I'd written down the website or something.

Colleen, I've never seen Minority Report, believe it or not. I think it's in my three hundred movie queue right now. I'm a pretty big fan of PKD, but I can't say I've read the original. Still, I'll give it a chance.

And speaking of PKD, Palmer, I should have made you sign a waiver after that bus convo. Hmm. And all randos are always welcome at the Dharmalars table

Stephanie said...

Wendy's joins Ruby Tuesday's in my list of places I will never visit again. If I weren't addicted, I'd say I'd never drink coffee again.

Ralph- said...

we do not record from Skype. Each person will record their piece on their own Podcast Recording Software than whoever is not editing will send their Recorded Track to the person who is Editing.

It is a concept that i wanted to try a long time ago but never got the oportunity. When Metrobuzz asked me to be on the show, they did it that way and i was pleased as Punch that it worked out so well, so i talked Jay into doing that when he asked me to be on his show.

Colleen said...

Steph - the secret is what I've been telling our boys since freaking MARCH (well...in all fairness, Ralph since like a month ago) but it's basically all about recording your audio separately, mixing the mp3s together, and then editing that way & saving it as one big file...isn't that how you guys do it for 3 Heroes? I remember telling Kay that's how we did it way back before you guys were starting...having a good mic also helps

mb said...

Listening -
I cannot wait to hear Colleen's version of the coffee story. That is hilarious!

I too liked Minority Report. I went into it trepidacious, b/c I wasn't sure about Speilberg doing it, but came out quite impressed.

*****STAR TREK CASTING SPOILER*****

I personally can see Tom Cruise as Pike to Damon's Kirk. For some reason it works for me. I wonder if he'd be disfigured or if it would be a flashback, or both.

Stephanie said...

Yeah, that's how we did it. But I'd hate to be the one doing the editing.

mb said...

I assume all participants would have to make some coordinated noise simultaneously at the beginning, then you'd be able to sync the recordings up pretty easily (barring issues during recording).

Stephanie said...

Coleen, Morgan and I enjoyed the vidcast. I allowed her to watch up until the Dharmalars were on screen. She says you are pretty.

Stephanie said...

Sorry, I left out a L.

Jordan said...

I haven't listened to the new ep yet. Damn this working thing. (shakes fist) So I don't have anything to say about that just yet. From the title, I guess I can assume it has something to do with an encounter with a Baconator. I know this girl (that's a joke that will make sense at a later date btw) who loves Baconators. Well at least she had one once and made it her life's mission that I too had myself a Baconator experience. I held out for a couple weeks, but finally broke down and made my deal with the devil. It wasn't so bad & kinda tasted good I'm embarrassed to admit. But I felt afterward like I was a host for some implanted alien baby. I have since sworn off fast food for at least a month. My favorite thing about the Baconator is that not only is there so much meat on it, there is ZERO vegetables. No lettuce, so tomatoes, no onions, NOTHING. The marketing for it should have been, "Vegetables are for fags! Eat some meat!"

I just wanted to chime in and agree with those who said that they liked Minority Report. I thought it was great myself. I don't consider myself a huge Tom Cruise fan or anything. But I thought it was a great film.

And Steph is right. MI3 is basically Alias on a bigger budget with Tom Cruise. I recently listened to an interview with the screenwriters for it. The way they described it, before MI3 went into production, Tom Cruise had just watched the first couple seasons of Alias on dvd. He was a big fan and contacted JJ Abrams about directing it. So Abrams then went and got the guys who wrote the first 2 seasons to write the script as they were responsible for what Cruise saw and liked. These are the same guys who also wrote the script for Transformers and are writing the new Star Trek script.

Note to Ben, maybe you might not want to say movies you haven't seen suck. Or prepare to feel the wrath of blogspotica. hahaha. I can see the spin off podcast now. "Ben's movie reviews of movies he heard stuff about from some guy once". I will be the first to subscribe!

Benjamin said...

I think I could spin that out to an hour a week. To be fair (to myself) it was Ralph himself that said Minority Report was no good. But I'm still going to watch it, durn it!

PalmerEldritch said...

Minority Report is in my queue thanks to PKD brand loyalty.

but, no, i can't stand Tom Cruise's shenanigans.

elias said...

MI3, Magnolia, Collateral, Born on 4th July - all good Cruiser films. I didn't like Minority Report at all.

Bad Cruise Performance

Ralph- said...

Minority Report is my least favorite Speilberg film. EVER. Yeah i am aware of Hook, 1941 and The Lost World, but i will stand by my statement.

Remember the jetpack scene with the ground beef? or the blind guy trying to get the good food out of the fride as opposed to the bad food? remember the rolling eyeballs? Speilberg was taking an interesting concept for a film and including jokes in it that were "zucker" knock offs, which never works.

I could go on for days about how much i dispise Minority Report. I just feel bad for John Williams who had to be sucked into that project.

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, well I think Godzilla vs Mothra II totally blows and is possibly the worst Godzilla movie ever. Yes, even worse than Matthew Broderick.

And Robot Jox was awesome.

Anonymous said...

What kind of soul-less monster hates Hook????????????

Ru-fi-o! Ru-fi-o! Ru-fi-o!

Ralph- said...

godzilla vs mothra 2?

Godzilla faced off against mothra in several films, but i am not sure which one was titled Godzilla Vs. Mothra 2. I am pretty sure that there isnt one called that. be more specific. I know that Godzilla vs. Megalon is notorious for being the Worse Godzilla of all time, and i would agree with that almost. Jet Jaguar is TOO Badass to overlook!!

I sort of Like the Roland Emmerich Godzilla movie of 1998. I also like the fact that in several Toho Godzilla films, that they allow the 1998 Godzilla to exist in their reality, but on several occasions they refer to the creature as "Zilla" and is not related to their beloved "Gojira".

Ben, we need to do a Kaiju Cast!

Jimmy said...

I am mixed with Minority Report. I thought it was funny that so much was made of "Spielberg channeling Kubrick", when I would prefer Spielberg to channel Spielberg. I didn't like the music much either, but thought Tom C did a fairly good job. Max Von Sydow is always good...I have a feeling I have spelt a few names wrong.

I saw 1941 when I was about 13 or 14 and decided even then that I hated it beyond compare. Even more than the Temple of Doom.

Who is this dude with an unhealthy obsession about Ben?

Jimmy said...

Steph...I'd keep my kid from watching the Dharmalars too....filthy bastards!

Colleen said...

haha, Steph, please tell Morgan thank you for me :)

I wish I could join in with this Minority Report/Speilberg discussion, but all I can really say is that I liked the movie...

Anonymous said...

You wanna talk movies that suck and are over rated? Try Citizen Kane, Spiderman 2, Return of the Jedi, Schindler's List, & A Land Before Time. Total over hyped grabage.

My pick for crappiest zilla flick of all time: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. After that one it was as if I was forced to eat an entire bucket of pig entrails, spit it up and rub it all over my face.

Ralph- said...

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2 (1993) is one of the more highly regarded Godzilla FIlms, are you thinking of Terror of Mechagodzilla which is the second appearance by Mechagodzilla, cause that movie was a pile of crap, but you cant overlook the awesomeness of Titanosaurus...oh wait, Titanosaurus is totally lame!!

/two days til Flash Gordon

Ralph- said...

there are a few Godzilla movies from the 60's with Minya (godzilla'a son). They are essentially kids movies. It is like if they decided to make a tv show called "Dark Crystal Babies". They took all of the Atomic Bomb afterman horror Metaphor of the original Godzilla film and made it into a cute little kid version.

In the 90's there was a few Godzilla films that dealt with Godzilla's offspring. In those films, Minya did not talk or blow smoke rings. In those films (if memory serves me Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah and Godzilla vs. Destroyah) Minya is esentially a bit more sympathetic. He essentially get captured by the military to use him as bait and when Godzilla goes to save him, Godzilla is Killed while Minya watches. I THINK that is how the story goes.

I can respect if it isn't something you'd personally choose to sit down and watch, but Kane is one of those films that, I feel, at least deserves the recognition that it IS a major artistic achievement, and it IS a huge piece of cinematic history. SO much shit is derivative of it!

Godzilla has Breathed while in outerspace, but he was encased in a transport bubble by the Beings from Planet X. So technically he was breathing at the same time as he was in space, but i dont know if that counts.

Do you think there's any chance they'll move up the S3 DVD release once people start raving about Heroes again?

I have nothing to add to the Godzilla debate; this show killed all desire for things Japanese and monster-like for me.

Elvis Death Week is finally here, so be sure to get your Elvis Reese's Cups soon before they're gone. If you can't make the Candlelight Vigil on Tues. night, I think they're streaming it on Graceland's website.

I guess I'm happy they're not doing any repeats, but ugh, this is brutal!

I don't think they'll release the dvd's any sooner because of Heroes. I do think Heroes coming on in the fall will make them rethink this scheduling.

What it's like to work on LOST according to Benjamin Linus' now dead dad:

Very. I had my script and we were filming in the jungle, but on this day it was pouring rain and mud all over the place. My script fell in the mud and was goopy and looking horrible. I told the crew what happened and asked for a new script and they all just laughed at me - they didn't want extra scripts floating around. I had to squeeze all the mud out of it and keep using the same script. Plus, my name was in huge, block print so they'd know it was mine. The same thing at the hotel. When there were re-writes, they'd instruct my driver to bring it to me. I ask for him to just leave it with the front desk, but he said no, you have to take it yourself. I also had to sign a confidentiality contract.

Speaking of James Ford's old stomping ground, why do you think they changed him from being from Tennessee to Alabama? After first watching The Brig I thought it must be the case that he moved to Tenn. after his parents' deaths and then wrote the letter. BUT, I just rewatched Outlaws and when Sawyer meets Duckett in Australia and Duckett asks where he's fron, Sawyer makes a point to say "Tennessee" like he's trying to get a rise out of the guy he thinks is the real Sawyer.

My theory -- it's something that changed because of time travel/course correction like Charlie swimming. Feel free to call utter bullsh** on it in my blog should you wish.

Off to get farther ahead of Jay in AD episodes.

Forgot about the Flash, but the DVR never forgets!

Hubby and I just got Bourne 1 & 2 from Netflix which we have to try and re-watch by next weekend which will probably be the last weekend Bourne 3 will be certain to be in the theaters. Hubby swears we've seen them, but I cannot for the life of me remember but 1 of them.

mattastic - Amazon has the Arrested Development Seasons 1-3 bundle for around $54 (50% off)

i'd recommend HBO shows but they're stupid expensive.

also: The Monkees, Munsters, Addams Family, The Prisoner, Batman Animated Series, Firefly & Serenity, Mr. Show, Kids In The Hall, Young Ones, Pee Wee's Playhouse, Simpsons, Futurama, Battlestar Galactica, Invader Zim,
Harvey Birdman...

I once posted the majority of my DVD collection on a forum.

I ended up looking like a bit of a show-off.

However, I reckon with some of the guys on here I would begin to look a bit more normal.

I sense a big forum post coming up about cult but lesser known British comedy Snuff Box.

I doubt you'll be seeing that any time soon.

MATTASTIC: If a woman decides to lead the life of a vegan, and then becomes pregnant, giving birth to a beautifully healthy baby, would she breast-feed?

If she wanted to, there;s no reason why she shouldn't. She wouldn't object to milk necessarily, just that cows can't actively offer it (let alone the fact that cow milk is meant for a different species - humans beign the only creatures who drink the milk of others).

If she is willing to offer breast milk to her child then there's no reason for her not to.

Weeds premieres Monday night. Anyone plan on watching the show after, Californication?

memphish said...

I have no idea what the movie this comes from is about, but this picture says to me: "He was always a quiet type; never noticed him much, until he gassed his father and friends and started kidnapping others and brainwashing them. Who'd have known?"

Jordan said...

What's that mean Steph?

And yes, I'll be watching Weeds. Although I have sorta already seen the first 2 episodes of the new season. ;)

Jordan said...

Nevermind. I see. I hadn't heard of that show before. I thought it had something to do with Weeds. lol

The Baconator was very tasty. Sorta reminds me of an Ultimate Cheeseburger from Jack-in-the-Box, only with more bacon. Everything is working fine. No need for coffee.

Btw, thanks all for the TV suggestions. It's between Firefly and Arrested Development. I think either will be a winner.

kinda slow 'round the blogspot lately, eh?

what's up, everybody?

i've got to check out TOQ's Masters of Science Fiction sometime this week. it didnt suck or anything, did it?

memphish said...

Yep, slow blogspot and slow message board these days. I guess the dog days have set in here as well.

TOQ's episode was much more sci. fi. than the previous one. It was pretty satisfying. It's a little simplified to get everything crammed into 42 minutes, but we can discuss that on the BBS once you've watched.

Next week's episode is based on a Heinlein story.

I've got a very important question at the end of my blog post today. Your answer reveals a lot about your view of characters on LOST and your betting strategies. If your too lazy to click, here's the question.

Backgammon -- Locke vs. Walt -- who do you bet on?

PalmerEldritch said...

hey, holli, what is there to do in Memphis? my friend out in Seattle is planning to visit his cousin in Memphis and was asking around as to what their is to do. he's into hiking and all that healthy crap, which i totally wouldn't be if i were going. but what's there to do for a tourist in Memphis?

memphish said...

Nothing healthy. Seriously, we're one of the least healthy cities in America. It's pretty flat, not a lot of parks, and every corner has a pork bbq restaurant.

More seriously, there are a couple of unique things here esp. as it relates to music. First of course is Elvis stuff like touring Graceland and going to Sun Studios. Another cool thing is the Stax Museum of Soul. Stax was a sort of Southern Motown with artists like Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, etc.

The Civil Rights Museum located at the site of MLK's assassination is well-done and interesting. We've got polar bears and pandas at our zoo which is in one of the good parks in the middle of the city--Overton Park. It's also got our main art museum as well.

The Dixon Galleries, another art museum that has very nice impressionist stuff has a special Blue Dog exhibit right now. The Pink Palace museum was on Alton Brown's show the other night; it's the natural history museum.

The Memphis Flyer is the local what's going on mag. You can find local events in that as well.

The Rendezvous downtown is a fun place to eat BBQ. The Peabody Hotel also downtown has ducks swimming in the fountain in the lobby from 11-5 (I think) each day. They do a big processional and recessional each day where the ducks ride the elevator down from their penthouse suite and get into the fountain. Then there's lots of clubs on Beale Street.

And finally, there's the Mississippi river which you can look at, and some people like the riverboat cruises though I personally haven't been on one since college. There's a nice jogging/walking path along the river on Mud Island too and another one along the bluffs above the river.

Sorry for the tome.

Question for the Blogspot from old MYOKM w/ SAS:
What sitcom house would you want to live in?

I think I'd go with the Beverly Hillbillies or maybe Murphy Brown. The one I'd least like to live in would be Green Acres.

Holli

Stephanie said...

I always thought the Huxtable house had a real homey feel but the Fresh Prince would be more luxurious.
Walt vs Locke? Hmm. Walt had the powers or what have you but Locke is in tune with the island. I say a draw.
Forget Elvis. I'd like the visit the place where MLK was assassinated.
I have a question. Should I be embarrassed? Morgan said last week at school highschool kids came in their room to discuss books. They were talking about this one. She said she told the class that poppies are used to make heroin. The teenagers said they didn't know that. Is the teacher wondering about what I'm exposing my child to? Now that I've read about the book, her comment fits the situation. Ok, never mind.

PalmerEldritch said...

steph, obviously, morgan watched the episode of seinfeld with the poppyseed bagel. or at least that's the explanation if the teacher asks.

memphish said...

Steph, Why did the teacher let someone come talk to Morgan's class about a book about a drug lord clone in the first place? Does heroin come from poppies? Is it an opiate? I guess I'd better go back to school.

And I think Morgan's excuse is to blame Charlie from LOST after all they aired his S1 snorting during the family hour.

Holli

Stephanie said...

p, I believe she did see that particular Seinfeld episode. And Holli, I forgot about the exposure to Charlie. I was wondering how she became so knowledgable of illicit drugs.

how's burn notice? i've only seen the first episode but i've got them all on DVR. lucy lawless will be on the ninth episode according to lucy lawless at comic-con. so, any good? totally awesome? a bucket of suck?

memphish said...

Burn Notice is light hearted pretty decent stuff. I think the 2nd episode is better than the pilot; the 3rd episode was meh; I don't think I ever saw 4; the next couple were good, even a little edgier and surprising and I haven't seen last week's yet. I like when he gets all McGyver and teaches me how to build cool spy tools. I think that's what I'll start doing next week when mini-me is finally back in school full time.

Wish I could contribute something, but I haven't watched Burn Notice or Flash. I was stoked to find out this weekend that "Jeckyl" is playing on BBC America (starring the man who might take over for Tennant in Doctor Who). Haven't watched it yet, am quite curious.

Also, a couple more scraps of info are posted at THE SPLOG

I'm glad I don't live here. If the ban vote won I'd have to move. I grouch enough about Tenn. making me go to a separate store to get wine and liquor; a separate county would be where I draw the line.

Who would wanna live there?!? Unless they're trying to quit drinking.

PalmerEldritch said...

does Massachusetts still not allow liquor sales on Sundays?

that was always an annoying feature of Taxachusetts.

PalmerEldritch said...

looks like they repealed that law. but i remember that annoying everyone when we'd visit my grandparents.

Stephanie said...

I didn't know it until recently but here it's against the law to sell booze within so many feet of a church. But I guess I should be accustomed to all these strange laws. What are the laws where you live? I just wonder if they are as complicated as here.

[ally] said...

I don't think that there are any strange booze laws here, but I've never really encountered any problems so I wouldn't know.

Stephanie said...

I don't really drink much and thinking about it, it might be because it's not easily accessible to me. I don't mean it's difficult to get, it's just not in every restaurant or on every corner. Or it might be that I don't care for it. Who knows.

[ally] said...

It's the total opposite here, Steph. You can get it on every corner and restaurant. (that's what she said).

Especially come Rodeo time, beer everywhere! God I miss the rodeo...

PalmerEldritch said...

ally, you should combine the two to appease animal rights activists. just get the rodeo guys REALLY drunk and then put them on a not-so-bucking bronco and see how long it takes for them to fall off under their own drunken power.
