Precious Moments

Just think, this could be your kid someday. In fact, if you hang out here, it probably already is.

First!

I think I've already sentenced my future children to a lifetime of therapy. The blow-up dolls are optional.

PalmerEldritch said...

If I was that kid, I would have gone with a brunette blow-up doll.

/wait... what?

PalmerEldritch said...

p.s. aimee, what's up?

Stephanie said...

My kid isn't that bad. She just watches Family Guy and South Park. Oh man, I'm a horrible parent. She told her grandmother the other day that God kills a kitten every time you masterbate. Hopefully she doesn't know what she's saying. I can't believe I'm admitting this.

PalmerEldritch said...

wow.

wonder how grandma responded. maybe she called your daughter a n00b and challenged her to Counter-Strike: Source?

aimee is lost said...

Not too much is up with me. Sorry I missed your IM the other day; by the time I hit reply you were signed off!

We recorded this weekend, so a new TLI should be up soon!

By the way Steph, WOW! I'm continously impressed by what kids will say. I'd be even more impressed if she knew what she was saying.

My proud parent moment -- 2 years ago on the first day of Kindergarten the children were asked to write and illustrate what they did "the night before Kindergarten." Then they were compiled and put in a book for all the parents to look at on Parent's Night. My son's? "On the night before Kindergarten I watched Seinfeld with Mommy." Oh yeah, I was busted.

Hopefully it wasn't "The Contest" episode.

memphish said...

Not much of a LOST question today, more of an observation. In rewatching "Walkabout" Locke says on a walkabout you become "inseperable" from the earth which makes me wonder if that is why he thinks no one should leave the Island.

If you're bored and want to think about LOST while waiting for new TLI, Yeah TLI!, check out some of the comments on my blog. We've had a little chatter over there lately.

Happy Post-Canada Day Kim! And Post-Hong Kong Day Jillian!

Holli

Stephanie said...

At least The Contest is vague about it's subject matter.
I think Morgan was shocked at the thought of God killing a kitten or that's what I'm telling myself.

aimee is lost said...

I'm surprised at the high amount of Lost content in the TLI. I hope you guys don't mind hearing it!

Stephanie said...

We can't wait to hear anything you and Kimberley have to say.

Anonymous said...

Danke Holli : )

And I cannot wait for some new TLI lovin'.

PalmerEldritch said...

just as long as Aimee says "batshiat crazy" and Kim says "jizz" then we are all freakin' set.

aimee is lost said...

Wow, I don't even remember if either of us used those terms. But I do recall Bai Ling being named, and a lot of laughing.

It's funny; after recording, it's like I black out and can't remember what the heck we talked about, until I listen to it.

Stephanie said...

I really like Burn Notice. I see what you were saying about Macgyver now, Holli. I wasn't expecting this guy to be as charming and funny as he turns out to be. The interaction with the kid is cute.
The 4400 was not good last night. The story of old lady from Gerneal Hospital was lame. I expect better next week. It's amazing how much more attractive Diana is now compared to season one.

PalmerEldritch said...

steph, i think we're watching Burn Notice on the DVR tonight or tomorrow night. hope it's good. i'm not expecting it to be though. oh. i thought 4400 was OK but saved by the end game of the stuff with Kyle and the what Shawn did. moving the story along, you know?

and the lady in the red dress there was purty.

Bai Ling is a crazy biatch

memphish said...

Palmer, I hope you set the DVR correctly. The episode ran about 1:15. I had not set mine correctly, but ended up watching it when it aired.

Trevor McFur said...

Nothing worse than posting in an old thread, then realizing two hours later that everyone else has moved on to a new one.

Anyway...

Happy Monday to all. I hope that most of you blogspotters are off a few extra days this week for the holiday (unlike me!).

Finally got down to under 20 podcasts on my iPod over the weekend ... first time since early in season 2, I believe...

That Bai Ling link is funny ... she really does seem to be a whack job, more so than the typical model/actress whack jobs. No discussion of her is complete without a clip of her singing.

Haven't watched last night's 4400 yet, but I haven't been thrilled with the show's start this year. I really think they've regressed by going back to FotW ... hope that they know where they're going.

memphish said...

There's an interesting story at the L.A. Times today about the Emmy Nomination Process and where various shows stand at this point. LOST is hanging in there, but not BSG or Gilmore Girls which I'm sure will cause a riot among their more rabid fans. The acutal nominations will come out July 19th.

Holli

Stephanie said...

Yep, p. I was definitely more interested in Kyle and Shawn than the old lady. The girl in the red dress WAS purdy.

DOUBLE POST:
Dude, that anonymous post was awesome. Very creative with the swearing, and letting us know how much we sucked. Sign it next time, dude. Nobody minds being told we're shit, but a lot of people here have issues with potshots taken without owning up to who you are.

Steph, the chemistry between Tom and Diane definitely settles down. I remember watching it at first and wondering if it was the first gig for both of them.

Mike, have a nice trip.

NEW MATERIAL
Hey, guys, I can't stick around much this week, because I have Burn Notice and 4400 on DVR, and I don't want to spoil myself, and between Transformers tonight, recording and Eagle Vs. Shark tomorrow, and fireworks on Wednesday, I don't know when I'll get a chance at them. I'll be peeking in between my fingers from time to time, though.

aimee is lost said...

Bai Ling is bisexual? She needs to hook up with Michelle Rodriguez. That would be one freakshow couple that I don't think the world could handle though.

PalmerEldritch said...

Bai Ling is phenomenally disgusting. Which is kind of mean to say. Oops.

I would not hit that, Sam I Am.

Ben, Eagle versus Shark?

Trevor, I think the FOTW nature is needed for a television show that wants to live on in repeats. You've got to attract new viewers. But I like that they usually bookend the FOTW with some good arc stuff. Stuff is happening each episode to drive the overall story and set up the big "Event" episodes to come.

Trevor McFur said...

Can't believe that BSG doesn't even make the top 10. Funny that they nominate based only upon 1 episode. 24 sucked ass this year, and has no business being in the top 10, let alone the final 5 ... but it started out really strong, and I could see it being nominated based upon one of those episodes. I hope Lost is at least nominated this year; Looking Glass was one of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen.

PalmerEldritch said...

Jimmy said...

Ahhh...nothing like Bai Ling hate first thing Monday morning!

PalmerEldritch said...

yer damn right, jimmy.

but you think she's kind of cute, right? can we at least agree that Tricia Tanaka > Bai Ling?

Benjamin said...

Palmer: Eagle Vs. Shark is a movie starring Jemaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords fame. I'm trekking to the nearest arthouse to catch it on Tuesday. The trailer was on iTunes for a while, if you're interested in learning more.

Trevor McFur said...

I don't think that Bai Ling is unattractive. She's got a very strange-looking face, but the rest of the package is very nice. I think if I was alone in Thailand and had condoms of steel, I'd hit that.

Trevor McFur said...

Palmer, I agree that Tanaka>Ling.

Ralph- said...

I still think that Bai Ling looks like Midna from The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess.

I have a Really Really busy day planned. I will see you all tomorrow when i post the next episode. actually, i i will see you tomorrow during the day.

Transformers Tonight!

AUTOBOTS, TRANSFORM AND ROLL OUT!!

andrew. said...

i just bought the ticket for my enbiggenedest vacation in 6 years. i'll be in San Francisco at the end of July! Other than spending time with friends, i have no idea what i'm going to do. Recommendations are appreciated.

Ralph - enjoy the Transformers. I'm going to wait and catch it on DVD. I expect fun action with an annoying plot, which is cool but not $12 cool.

Trevor McFur said...

Andrew, my wife (then just girlfriend) and I went to San Fran 3 years ago. We just did touristy things, and I bet that if you have freinds there, they can make some great suggestions. A couple of things that we really liked ... one was renting some bikes and riding from Fisherman's Wharf, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and across the bay into Sausalito. You can rent bikes all over the place in the Wharf. Also, the Alcatraz Tour is actually very cool. They have one that's at night that's pretty creepy.

PalmerEldritch said...

andrew, eat Rice-a-roni while riding on a trolley.

memphish said...

Andrew, If you want to do wineries, go on a tour with a driver so that you can enjoy it. But, the truth about winery tours is that they are pretty dull. I'd suggest finding a wine tasting or a wine dinner in the city instead.

Also, this is kind of corny, but go have a drink at the Top of the Mark at the top of the Mark Hopkins. Amazing Bridge to Bridge views.

And to save some money on dining, look for fine dining establishments that have lunch and eat a late lunch for less rather than dinner for more. For example, Fringale is one of our favorite restaurants which we always lunch at though the chef has changed and is now at Piperade which also has lunch. And that chef runs a tapas place bocadillos which also has take-out for taking to one of San Francisco's many parks and enjoying.

Holli

P.S. You can also go see the outside of the Full House house.

Trevor McFur said...

I'd second drinks at Top of the Mark.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

Elias - I'm assuming the Renny Harlin swap-o-rama relates to "current events" (that is, the 1970s style "blowing cars up all over the fucking country" that's going on at the mo).

Doctor Who... without spoilers or irritating people? Actually I watched Sound of Drums a couple more times and got into it and therefore was in exactly the right mindset for that finale which was hated by almost everyone else. Mostly I was just astounded by how utterly mental it was. Remember this is on in one of the most high profile TV slots available on British television and yet Rusty decided to fill it with a level of insanity not seen since the lst episode of The Prisoner in the late 60s.

Notes:
* Martha will appear on Torchwood
* Jack's line at the end has been been confirmed as true (not just him mucking about) by the Rusty podcast
* Rumours suggest next year is the final one for both Rusty and Tennant
* That's it.

PalmerEldritch said...

RTD is around for next year too?! Crap. That sucks. Hope he doesn't write any episodes.

Actually, he can write them but, for the love of Romana, let someone have the guts to tell him that his deus ex machina one minute resolutions suck donkey balls.

mb said...

Hey all from the road (sort of),

Steph and Holli, you guys are making me feel better about the crap that slips out of my mouth when I'm not paying attention. At least your kids are just hearing it from the TV! I'm amazed I haven't gotten a call from school yet - she's pretty verbal and seems to have an elephant's memory.

Let me apologize to everyone in advance for the spoiler seg on the coming TLI. I recorded with the built in mic of a macbook, sitting in my rental car at 2am (so as not to wake the family in the motel room). The volume starts soft and then kicks up when the music starts - so have a finger on the volume.

As far as movies - it's Ratatouille for the family tonite. Actually looking forward to this one.

Palmer/Ghost - tried so hard to resist watching Who B4 recording the seg (be responsible and do my work first) - yeah...wasn't happening. Like asking the crack addict to do his chores and clean the pipe first.

***SPOILER ALERT***
I've only watched it once and need to see it again but:
Positives:
1. Contrary to most it seems (from what I've read) I liked the "One Year Later" angle.
2. Liked the connection back to the Humans from the Utopia rocket (although I do have a complaint about them as well).
3. Liked Martha being something of the hero.
4. Again contrary to many, liked the Captain Jack reveal
5. Continued to enjoy John Simm (althought not quite as much as last week)

Negatives:
1. A few too many blatant nods to other franchises/movies for me - i.e. Return of the Jedi funeral pyre, Flash Gordon w/the ring being picked up, Doctor Gollum/Dobby the House-Elf, ...more
2. While I like the the IDEA of psychic energy feeding back through the Archangel network and reversing it's purpose, it came off as a too clean and simple a solution. I think as an adult watcher I wanted more struggle between the Doc and Master, and I have to remind my self that the primary audience IS children (and they are trying to consider the message they are sending).
3. While the CGI Doctor Gollum was a fairly impressive bit of work, I think something live action would have been more effective - but again, I'm sure it wowed the kids.
4. Although I have a feeling it's not as it might seem - having John Simm AND Freema Agyeman leave the show (at least for now) left me feeling let down. I liked both of them and don't want them to go. It put a real damper on things for me. But I'm probably being premature. I have heard that Martha will be returning for some of season 4.
5. Would have liked more character development of Simm's Master instead of more of the same (b/c I like him).

Allright - sounds like the kiddo and wife are waking from their nap. Talk to all of you magnificent bastards later!

mb said...

wow - Ghost and palmer post AS i'm writing - Whovians ARE psychically linked! ;)

Jordan said...

This is awesome

mb said...

Jordan - that's hilarious, and I don't even know what it is. Was there actually a Tetris animated show? My god.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

I think Mr Saxon's final kiss off was pretty adult.

At the end of the show, I said to my assembled friends that if they could find a single Doctor Who blog or forum that didn't say:

* Dobby
* Return of the Jedi
* Flash Gordon

I'd be amazed.

Intrigued about the Chrstmas Special?

Will they forget that just thirty-some episodes back they said that the Eccleston Doctor was on board that thing as well? Will they mention that the McCoy Doctor was there in one of the books? Will Tennant start carting Kate Winslet around next year instead and return her with a more modern sensibility (in fact I suddenly really like that totally not going to happen idea).

mb said...

Ghost,
always intrigued by the Titanic :) Indeed - what the hell is that going to be about?

It is true that EVERY Who site I've seen has those references plastered accross it's boards. Hope they weren't going for subtle - lol

Jordan said...

Yeah, I don't remember a Tetris cartoon either. That song is bad ass though.

I'm off to see Transformers. Woo hoo!

PalmerEldritch said...

Jordan and MB, looks like it's from a show called "Captain N: The Game Master" which had a couple of Tetris episodes. Luckily, while I can remember the name of the show, I can't remember having actually watched an episode. Phew!

Whovians, did Mrs. Saxon randomly have a black eye in some scenes?

*spoilers*

the psychic energy thing was crap just like the Eye of Harmony thing from season 1 and the magic lever of plot contrivance in season 2. RTD spends fifty minutes building and building and then fixes everything, sometimes literally, with the flip of a switch. i do like the emotional aftermath though.

i like Captain Jack and Barrowman for that matter. funny guy. the big reveal was amusing. makes torchwood less dramatic though. of course, i couldn't get more than two minutes into that show though.

i'm hoping for Sally Sparrow as a new companion. she could even bring that stupid boyfriend with her. that actress was much more compelling than Martha Jones. and she was attractive. so, Sally Sparrow and Martha's foxy sister. ;)

and the brunette from Blink too. it'll be like Charlie's Angels with the Doctor involved.

anyhow, my main complaint with the last episode was the way that the Doctor escaped. i'm OK with a reset in a Who episode. such is the nature of a show about time travel.

*end of spoilers*

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

I want a podcast or something that I can use my lovely voice on, but I don't think I could sustain one, or build an audience.

Unless I just spend over an hour explaining why people should watch films they might not want to, like Phantom of the Paradise and The Wizard of Speed and Time.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

Ghostwatch's Doctor Who Podcast? Hmmm

It'd be eccentric.

I've tried other Who podcasts and I've not yet found one I've enjoyed, whereas with Lost podcasts, I've not yet found one I've not enjoyed (although I've since learned there are a few).

Hmmm...

Stephanie said...

I tried to watch Forbidden Zone. I could only stand 5 minutes. That has got to be the craziest thing I've ever seen.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

I'd love to get one on with MB and Palmer.

No idea how to do it logistically, though.

Skype, presumably. Now idea how I'd fit it around my silly job (I bet it's no surprise to know that one of the largest aspects of my actual paying job in knowledge of sily trivia)

Stephanie said...

Do it, ghostwatch! Do it!

Stephanie said...

Timezones make it tricky too.

memphish said...

But Ghostwatch is a night owl so that would minimize the time zone issues.

MB, be sure to give us a general reaction to Ratatouille. I hear great things, but the previews have not engaged me despite my affection for Paris, the Food Network, and The Incredibles.

Holli

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

I'm not always a night owl. My current shift has had me on from midnight until 2am our time (currently 2:21am), but sometimes I can be on from 8 am.

Earlier on I did mid-day until 6pm, then slept.

Honestly, it's a job tailor made for the proper me, but the hours are weird, especially weirder now I'm a sort of line manager so have to help maintain the 24-hour service.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

Basically, I'm from the future.

memphish said...

Sorry for the mis-characterization Ghostwatch. I knew you posted here at very late hours your time.

Holli

memphish said...

From the future. LOL. I like it. I just started reading "The Time Traveler's Wife." There's some freaky time traveling going on there. And it involves nudity sort of like Desmond, though Desmond seems to be a lot less nude than Henry, unfortunately for us girl LOST watchers. Of course, his John Travolta school of buttoning his shirt at his navel gives us a bit of a break.

Holli

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

I enjoyed the Time Travelers Wife (man, it's weird only typing one L in that - albeit accurate to the title) despite:

* it's clearly a girl book
* Niffenegger seem to want to prove how cool she is by, from time to time, literally having a character fill a page with dialogue about what excellent bands they like

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

And after making sure I put on "L" in "Traveler", I didn't put an apostrophe before the s at the end.

El-Dumbo!

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

Ooh. Look at the comment numbers! We're clearly beginning to reach that point.

May I make a valid post by pointing out how happy I am that Live Free or Die Hard (or Die Hard 4.0 everywhere else) retains the Die Hard formula of having its script adapted from something else rather than having been written as a Die Hard film from the ground up.

Stephanie said...

Holli, I'm glad to see somebody else shares my non-interest in Ratatouille. That movie is all they're talking about around the watercooler lately. Mice and food? No thinks, I'll pass.

Stephanie said...

Thinks? I meant thanks.

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

While I remember - what do people think of the show "Dexter"?

It's coming on over here on a channel that I can't see without spending The Buckos, but it looks exactly like my damn thing.

Is it worth illegalising, or not as good as it looks?

PalmerEldritch said...

That rat movie is completely uninteresting to me as well. But this is the guy who hasn't seen Cars.

I'd listen to a Doctor Who podcast but methinks I'm too lazy to take part in one. Anyhow, I'm shy. And did I mention way too lazy?

Ghostwatch, I think Dexter's based off a book (a series of books?) so you could check out a few chapters of that ahead of time. Or maybe that'd ruin the surprise?

I know nothing about Dexter. I haven't shelled for the premium channels either. I went through an HBO phase but after watching Center Stage about 50 times and fighting with the cable company about crap reception, I cancelled 3 years ago. I wish I could see Flight of the Conchords though.

Holli

Johnny Ghostwatch said...

We don't have a TV version of Flight of the Conchords on yet (although I predict it will show up on More 4). I know them through a faux documentary series from BBC Radio narrated by Rob "Even My Farts Get Released On DVD" Brydon.

mb said...

Holli - just remember I'm here for you all.

Ghost & Palmer - the only 2 Who podcasts I've listened to are Podshock and the DWO Whocast, but I haven't really explored much. I listen to Tom Dillahunt who does Podcast Who when he actually puts out an episode. None of them are near as fun as TLI/Dharmalars, but it does satisfy some Who discussion fix (talking about it with you guys is the other part of that equation).'

Re; DOING a podcast - would be fun - just don't have time to edit one each week, and that's the real bear - I wouldn't ask someone to commit to that every week. I agree it would need to be kinda off-the-wall somehow to stand out. Ghost - you'd definitely inject needed humor into the subject matter - that would be a strength for sure.

I'll give the Ratatouille report tonite or tomorrow.

Peace out

mb said...

and Palmer - don't be SHY! Just think like Marcia Brady when she took her driving test - all the listeners in their underwear...hang on, 86 that, I suddenly feel wrong.

andrew. said...

Ratatouille - i should be chomping at the bit to see this. Brad Bird (worked on early & still-fresh Simpsons seasons, responsible for "Amazing Stories: Family Dog", "Iron Giant" & "The Impossibles") + Pixar (perfect record except for "Cars" (sorry, Ralph, it had its babyboomer moments, but pasting googly eyes on car windshields doesn't strike me as inspired writing)) is a hard pedigree to beat. The squash & stretch animation style, reminiscent of classic Looney Toons or Tom & Jerry, is beautiful to see done well in 3D. I like Patton Oswalt. I'm sure i'll love it when i see it, but for some reason i'm not in a hurry. I think some of the slick & cutesy marketing is responsible.

-John From Cincinatti still manages to baffle me. I just can't decide if i like it or hate it. More and more Deadwood actors keep showing up which makes the clunky dialogue that much more irksome.

-Stephanie - i can't say that Forbidden Zone makes much more sense after the first 5 minutes. I think being a big Danny Elfman/Oingo Boingo fan when i was a kid is the only way i made it through entirely.

-i downloaded some Buffy The Vampire Slayer podcasts because listening to podcasts is starting to become an integral part of watching TV now (maybe i should seek out a John From Cincinatti podcast). I can't bring myself to listen to them since they'll undoubtedly be packed with spoilers. I already got spoiled on a bunch of stuff because i listened to some episode commentaries and watched some featurettes on the earlier DVDs. I'm finishing season 4 this week. Still haven't encountered the 'you taste like strawberries' line.

-i've heard good things about Die Hardenest. The trailers look really bad, but some friends that i trust have assured me that if you liked the 1st one, you'll have a lot of fun at the 4th.

-you know who else really likes Dr. Who? Cliff Generally Squaking. Cliff loves Lost too, so i guess i can't hold that against the good doctor.

-sorry, tired and rambling again.
