I don't like the fact that we have 2 Angels fans, 2 Twins fans, and 2 Red Sox fans on here who post. I feel outnumbered. Sack would be hot. That was a solid episode. Desmond is moving up in my list of favorite characters. Did anyone else notice that there was some new music when Desmond was talking about the puzzle? Desmond's theme, perhaps?
Jordan- Sorry for ruining Felix's 0 ERA. It happens.
Holli, I definately think that was Mrs. Hawking. There was supposed to be a huge easter egg in the last scene, based on that Jeff Jenson article from EW.
sure was, folks. nearly jumped out of my chair at that.

It was so fast and I'm too lazy to go back and check. I yelled at the screen and my stupid non-LOST watching husband was trying to distract me, but yeah, I'm sure it was her.
Kind of weird episode. Creepy in a lot of ways from the whole is Charlie going to die stuff to the whole I want Jack, but I'm really going to try to make myself want Sawyer stuff.
Desmond has excellent taste in alcohol I must say.
Pretty good episode. It kinda drug to me. I give it a seven and a half out of ten. Poor Sawyer. Did I understand him right? He doesn't mind being the consolation prize?
Yeah, Kate wants Jack which I never really disputed. My bigger point is that Sawyer is the one who really loves Kate, not Jack. So if Kate wants some lovin' she better be looking for Sawyer and his mixed tape. Also Sawyer and Kate have the only sex-ready huts on the Island it appears.
crazy. i thought i recognized her voice even though she looked a little differen. oh well. better catch on the mrs. hawkings photo. i didn't see that one. what language was that copy of catch 22 in? anybody recognize it?
Kate, he's just not that into you. Don't you know they are getting sick of all that sand? You go to the beach and after a couple of days the sand just grates on your nerves. Or is it just me?
maybe jack loves kate more and is trying to stay out of the way cuz he thinks that kate likes sawyer more.
by the way, did Juliet ever tell everyone that the pregnant chicks die on this island? when she does, will it cut down on the Kate/Sawyer uglybumping? i'd love Kate to get an "oh, crap" face after Juliet mentions that.
Kate knows about the pregnant thing, but then we've speculated she has the banana leaf johnnies. For now I think only Jack and Kate know, but I loved that promo. "I'll lose either way." Great teaser. I'm betting it's baldy's baby.
I listened to Jimmy pre-episode and heard the psychic Desmond theme during the scene where the priest fires him (I think). Can you be fired as a monk? I'm pretty sure I'm asking the wrong people around here.
When I lived in San Diego I ate lunch one day in Planet Hollywood next to Jeannie's top.
To dis someone's sexual choice other than Kate's, I'll bring up one of my favorite lines of the night which was Ruth's when she said "the closest thing [Desmond] ever had to a religious experience was her."
Our favorite West Coasters should be joining us soon. Next week, we should make up what happened in the episode so when they all log on, they're mystified and say "What? I don't remember that!" and start frantically fast forwarding through their LOST recordings looking to catch something that isn't there.
My Braves came from behind tonight and I had to turn switch from watching them in HD to watch LOST. Frankly it was a hard choice even this early in the season because baseball in HD is so sweet!
Sorry, I meant chopper. And speaking of the helicopter, what made it crash? It sounded fine, just like on MASH, and then it didn't. Is the Island somehow still protecting itself even thought the button is now longer in play?
As for being fired from the monastery, I'm not sure there is ANY job that you can't get fired from if you screw up badly enough. I once got fired from a job at Domino's pizza when I was in high school because I went to homecoming instead of going to work.
I also am pretty sure that it was Mrs. Hawking in the photo on the "head monk"'s desk. For some reason, "head monk" is really funny to me. It could almost be a porn star name.
And did Desmond really expect to use a freakin first aid kit to save Charlie if he took an arrow right through the middle of his neck?
btw, nice lighting / angle when they first showed Sawyer entering Kate's tent. For a second, I totally thought I was getting a look at her Katydids.
And how the hell do you jump out of a crashing helicoptor without getting chopped up in the prop?
~DA
p.s. What's the strangest circumstance under which you've been fired from a job?
So are all you non-west coasters over it all ready? lol.
Pretty crazy ep. I didn't especially dig the flashback, but the island stuff was top notch. Very intense from the start. Which by the way, how many times did we need to see Charlie shot in the neck? Do you think they would've been able to get away with that scene at 9 pm?
Has anybody pointed out when the head monk said something about 108 bottles of wine? And that picture of the crazy jewelery store lady was weird. Maybe that was the whole point of this flashback. Because beyond that all it did was show us that Desmond is a two time coward. I guess it did show us how he met Penny.
Boy, did the music and editing of the scenes with Des meeting Penning and them on the island getting down the parachuter make you feel like they were building it all up for Des to unveil a dead Penny or what? Holy intensity Batman. But the Portugese Catch 22 was enough reason for me to not think it was her. Anybody think that lady survives?
im not gunna lie, I almost cried thinking that was penny and desmond was cutting her down, with the flashback going in and out the music brought it all together into one of, what I think, the saddest moments of LOST
It was an alright episode, but I found the flashback to be a bit boring. I loved Jin telling the Korean ghost story and the ping-pong match. Kate's pissing me off with this Jack thing. And I'm liking Sawyer more and more every week. I agree with Colin, Sack would be hot! Desmond is becoming my favorite character now, he's definitely the most interesting person on the beach...except for the enigma that is Frogurt.
(old jewish man voice) You....you funny funny people on this blog! Laughing my ass off over here. Palmer - you should have played the trick on us west-coasters - maybe you still can at some point. Brilliant idea!
Jordan - laughing hard when you said it would be you and me at 11pm PT trading reactions. so true. Ralph comes on too, but he's mr. on-top-of-it (TWSS) and is on here by 11:10 (I'm such a fucking slack-ass)
A few Points of Revelation:
- It was weird when the photo of the monk and Mrs. Hawking came on - I literally did not look at it long enough to consciously identify her - yet I absolutely knew it was her. I think all you people are whispering in my brain. And jeezuz - holy mother of Photoshop that was a bad picture - must look even more comical in HD!
- Kate wants to get with Jack - I think that Alcatraz escape speech over the walkie-talkie in "I Do" gave her heart a defribulation jolt for her Jate love. However, that doesn't change their relationship as it stands, I don't think. He's still shunning her, and for me, Sawyer is becoming relationship material more and more with his actions. I thought the way he told her to basically just tell him the truth (even if it's that he's second prize) rather than lie to him, was a long way from what Season 1 or 2 Sawyer might have said. But... there was that whisper in the ear in the game room. What IS Jack thinking?
- It seemed to me like the helicopter's engines just slowed and it fell into the ocean AFTER the parachutist would have jumped - I'm not sure - anyone else have a take? Why did the engine die? Was this an accident (caused by the island?) or did the parachutist jump out and let the helicopter crash instead of landing it, in which case why? It would seem like you'd be able to find an open relatively flat space, but perhaps not in the dark. I don't know - any helicopter pilots here?
- Think Sayid can power up a satellite phone battery? (though I'll easily put money down that they would get no signal on creepy freaky island)
- SO F-in psyched that it looks like Penny did indeed send the parachutist! I wanted it to be that.
Jordan - Re: your comment about Desmond's flashback only showing us his troubled past love life - Actually, the thing that really stood out for me was the return of the idea that he was possibly DESTINED (by 'god') to be on the island. The monk told him he thought that god had "different plans...bigger plans" for Desmond (interesting he did not say 'greater'). If there is something akin to destiny that relates to what happens on this island amongst and between our Losties - What part is Desmond 'supposed' to play in it?
The whole idea of Charlie being a sacrifice Desmond might have to make to let the flashes play out the way they're "supposed to", smacked heavy for me of the Locke/Boone sacrifice. except Desmond actually tried to save Charlie.
I suppose that's not completely fair since Locke couldn't walk at the time - but he probably could have talked Boone out of it. Or maybe not - anyone remember that scene well enough?
I'm a guitarist and I dunno about you guys but does it grate on anyone else's nerves that they let the guitar get all wet in the rain and then had Charlie fall on top of it when Desmond survives? Biggest continuity blip in the entire series if Charlie ever plays that guitar again and it still sounds like a guitar.
For all the shippers over here, DarkUFO has a poll.
I'm throwing out my non-spoiler based Season Finale prediction. I think Jack's a Manchurian candidate. I think his conditioning was being raised by Christian. I don't think he's Christian's biological child, but that Jack was "raised by another." I don't know who placed him, but I think Ben knows. I don't know what triggers him, but I think the throw away conversation between Jack and Juliet about hammering and drinking is related to this idea. I don't know what he's intended to do, but I predict that by the end of Season 3 he'll be triggered and started doing it. I also think this might be why he is so relationship-challenged.
And to answer Denass' earlier question, I've never been fired from a job, but I haven't had that many either. My neice who's 15 years younger than me has been through more jobs than I ever will in my lifetime.
And the caveat to my above theory -- unlike Ralph, I'm always wrong. That's why I don't bet on sports either.
And did all the baseball fans hear there was a no-hitter last night. Congrats to any White Sox fans that might be around here.
A Speed Racer movie by the Wachowskis? Listen, I'm dying to see the entirety of "Bound" sometime but the Matrix trilogy blows. Except that it put Monica Bellucci in a tight dress. That worked for me.
I loved Speed Racer as a kid, and since Racer X bareley talks, just looks manly and sad at the same time, MF should be perfect for it. Can you cry in a race car? I'm sure MF will figure out a way to do it.
like that theory, Holli. We can expect a real revelation about Jack since he gets the finale flashback. My non-spoiler predicton is that he was born an Other. Admittedly it doesnt make much sense but I might as well.
The island stuff was good this week - a balanced mix of sex, comedy and suspense. The flashback was a bit weak, unless the Ms.Hawking thing comes into play in a big way.
Penny is great - she knows where Desmond is now and is sending random Brazilian women to join him. Classy :)
Do think that since Desmond saved Charlie, the person who came changed? Like, it was originally Penny, but since Desmond changed "the picture on the box" everything else changed.
Did you notice the phone had bars...it had a signal! Also, the phone had an internal error warning when it died...so maybe it isn't the battery afterall. Also, the phone did have the gps on it. Maybe they can figure out where they are if they ever get it working. That phone can be a huge key to getting them off the island. Imaging if they get it working and call someone. That will be crazy.
Colin, I was just about to ask that. I think Desmond believes it and that's all that really matters.
Desmond thinks he's being tested like when God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. Abraham did what God said and God ultimately stopped it and provided a substitute, but it was God, not Abraham who stopped it. Here Desmond, not God, the Island, Mrs. Hawking, whatever, stopped the "sacrifice" of Charlie.
I personally think that allowing Charlie to die would slow them down getting to the parachute person. I also don't think Penny would have come herself on the basis of a mere magnetic anomoly. They find the flight bag with the book before the time comes for Charlie's sacrifice which should have told Desmond this wasn't Penny unless it turns out Penny can fly a helicopter and likes to read in Portugese.
Awesome episode... I love me some Desmond. Can't wait to jump in to some discussion action after my many cups of coffee sprikled with crazy New Yorkers today. Ah, the life...
Yes, I'm proud to say I have the 69 and 108 Kablamo on this thread.
I can't remember if I mentioned this here and am too lazy to re-read my posts, but where did that First Aid kit come from? The barracks? I haven't seen a screengrab yet, but I think it had a Civil Defense (CD) logo like during the Cold War not a Dharma one.
steph, i'd imagine that the chopper came off the deck of a boat. then again, Michael and Walt sailed off to sea on a dinky ass little boat... maybe the Island is closer to other islands than we think?
I like the idea that the helicopter came from a ship. Good call Palmer. What about the high altitude stuff she was wearing? I wouldn't think helicopter's could fly that high because of the way they operate.
Handsome Jack is on fire this morning. He's the Sawyer of the Jay and Jack podcast.
Update to my Manchurian Candidate theory. I think Jack and Sawyer are separated at birth twins and there was some nature vs. nurture experiment going on.
Further update on my separated at birth theory. According to Doc Jensen The Brothers Karamazov has 4 brothers. I now think Jack, Sawyer, Desmond and Ben are all separated at birth brothers and this is some grand nature v. nurture experiment and they've been brought together on the Island to conclude it.
I know this is crazy, and I'm always wrong, but I want it out there at least.
So if the helicopter flew off a ship per Palmer's suggestion, why at night? It was 2 hours until dawn. And if you can't see where to land on the Island at night would you have scuttled the helicopter and parachuted your way in as Plan A?
I've an odd feeling that we're about to find out for sure, from this new arrival, exactly how much time has passed in the outside world since the crash. I'm willing to bet that time moves much slower on The Island and that years have flown by back in the world. We've had plenty of hints that time is a major element in the mystery of the Island.
Could the fertility issue be connected to time in some way? In the episode Not In Portland, when Juliette was being recruited by Richard Alpert, he showed her an x-ray of a womb, which Juliette commented looked aged. Perhaps conception on the Island reconnects the bodies' of the pregnant women to the faster timeline of the outside world. This would explain why Claire, who conceived before the crash, was unaffected and went full term.
If Sun conceived on the Island then she is in real danger. I believe she did, simply because this would be the most dramatic and interesting story outcome. Thus I conclude, in my Sherlock Holmes manner, that the father of the baby is Jin after all.
Tall Guy, Great idea about the time stuff. I hope something like that will happen because it hurts my head to try to figure out the time stuff on my own.
I agree that the baby being Jin's has a lot of potential because it would also make Juliet more valuable to the Losties. Maybe she'll finally be able to solve the fertility problem. If not with Sun, Kate looks like our next candidate for Juliet's experiments.
OK...so I don't want to say I told you so, Aimee..."A girl's gotta eat"
BoSox v. Jays, I guess the flashes before MY eyes are a little blurred, Desmond's are much better :(
Does anyone else remember the last scene of season 2? Those 2 guys speaking Portugese in what looked like the arctic? The one guy that kinda looked like Matthew Fox called Penny up and said they found "him". Didn't they have that hula-girl doll on one of the desks? Anyway, looks like the team of Potrugese rescuers didn't make it, but this girl bailed from the chopper just in time. Seems to me Penny has hired this folks to find Desmond. Hopefully Sayid can fix that satellite phone!!!
I think that they really imply that, by saving Charlie, the parachutist changed from Penny to mystery girl. I guess that was the catch-22 ... let Charlie die, be reunited with Penny; save Charlie, no reunion (that's not really a catch-22, though, but I can't come up with anything else from the episode that it could have been).
If it's true that Dez saving Charlie changed the parachutist ... my head starts hurting thinking about it. Because she was already there, hanging from the tree. Dez didn't make his decision until the last possible second. So he decided, then time changed? Or the course was actually set all along, and there really was no decision? I don't know..
I looked at screen caps from last year's finale and didn't see any hula girl. I think Hurley should stick it on the dashboard of his DHARMA van.
I don't think the parachutist was the pilot...I think she was always supposed to jump. A pilotless chopper would just crash immediately, I believe. And I don't think it was ever going to be Penny, it's just that Desmond desperately wanted it to be her.
Ugh, I just know I'm going to cry when they finally reunite! Their story is so epic; I'd be touched if a woman spent three HOURS looking for me, never mind three YEARS!
And I'm from New England, so go SAWX! That's Sox, as in Red Sox for the rest of you.
I really liked this episode. Sadly, it'll be my last episode watching with you lot, and while I don't exactly have made any sort of imprint on this blog, it'll be sad not to be able to read the responses as soon as they come. Sigh.
BUT a very nice episode to end on. Gotta love the Desmond. And seeing Charlie die? Gaaaaah, that was so cool.
I am off to home again (Hong Kong) for the summer, and if things go according to plan, I'll be in Denmark for a year, so the chances of me watching Lost in time with you guys has gone dramatically down the tubes.
BUT, I know where I can watch them online, I'll just have to make sure I don't stumble here before I watch them due to spoilers. So I'll be around, just won't be able to participate as much as I never really did. :)
You'll be missed Gillian! Come back soon! ^__- Have fun in Hong Kong and Denmark.
Just watched the episode: totally loved it. Very nice episode indeed! Flashback not so much, but it got better and better towards the end. Liked the origin of "brotha", first meeting with Penny and the old white haired orakel. They could've done a better job with the pic though :) At least make it darker so that it doesn't hit our eyes that hard. Well, I guess they really needed everyone to notice that. Maybe it'll play out in future episodes. The heli approaching and then craching sent chills down my spine. Awesome! Can't wait to hear that brazilian girl's story. Oh yeah, awesome opening too! They totally had me for a sec.
2 questions: * what does catch 22 mean and how does it tie to this ep? * mixtape?
greetz Name: Scary Snake Special Power: Twisting Hands Transportation: Quantum Car Weapon: Gamma Lasso Costume: Electric Boots Sidekick: Igor Nemesis: Tim the Deadly Tragic Flaw: Addicted to love Favorite Food: Cashews
oh yeah, didnt care too much about the relation ship stuff going on this ep. Kate make up ur mind allready beeotch! :D If I would venture a guess I'd say in the end, Kate'll end up with Jack and Sawyer'll end up dead in a very dramatic way (i guess Sawyer dying is dramatic enough, but i mean seriously dramatic and emotionally heavy and stuff).
I think the Catch-22 of this episode was the impossible situation with Desmond's vision and the ensuing trek. He had a vision which ended with him reuniting with Penny, but the events that had to occur originated from the vision itself. In the vision, the only reason they went on the trek was to follow the vision. Which is an impossible situation, and a Catch-22
I think Tall Guy's onto something. I've heard other theories before about time being different on the island, but what if it's not as clear as just going faster or slower? Maybe time on the island fluctuates between going faster and slower (maybe due to the EMP), while the rest of the world's time is at a constant.
That would explain why sometimes when traveling to the hatch it would be daylight, and then darkness on one trip; another trip from the same point may only be 10 minutes. It could also be that every 108 minutes, time changes speed from slow to fast.
Destroying the magnet might have actually reset time on the island, or stabilized it a constant rate. Maybe the women on the island can carry to term now that it's gone. They just need to try. Maybe that was the "great" thing Desmond did.
If Walt ever comes back to the island, his growth could be explained by the island's time being slowed down.
Ooooh, of course J! Thanks for clarifying that. I was just thinking about how it could be a catch 22, and could only think around Charlie getting arrow'd, but that didn't create too much of a catch 22, because it was really just a vision of him being killed.
Also, the book? Are we under the assumption that it was in Portuguese, which is why people think parachute girl is Brazillian?
Oh my gosh, so much to say! I've been so awol this week because work has been crazy as all heck, and I just spent the day on a ride-along with a K-9 officer, which was a lot of fun.
Awesome episode from beginning to end, although I kept asking myself throughout the hour, why couldn't Desmond have just told Charlie "look, we need to do this thing, but at a certain point, i'm gonna need ya to duck, okay?" Doesn't sound too difficult, but okay, I understand it takes away all the drama, so, whatever.
I think the greatest love story on this show is the Desmond-Penelope story, and I love to see his episodes and learn more about it, and get a little closer to seeing them almost find each other again. I know this is going to end up being one of the focal points of the show, and that excites me a lot. I am a hopeless romantic I guess. I always fall for those impossible yet sweetly tragic love stories.

Who's legs are those?
1st. after poster
yeah, what's up with that pic?
the priest?
no idea on the shoes. are we going to get to 108 and kablamonate the old thread?
any canadians already watching the episode?
Jimmy posted his Midweek Episode over at the dharmalars blog and it should be popping up on iTunes any minute now. i will post it here tomorrow once the episode discussion gets too long.
Great work Jimmy!
downloading it now, ralph. by the way, geekscape have you episode yet? my laptop needs more apel!
yay! jimmy before the show. thats pretty fuckin cool. downloading now.
still problems with there servers. i am awaiting the episode just as much as all of you. i sort of draw a blank when i podcast. i get too focused on what i am going to say next that i dont listen to the person i am talking to. i do it to ben and i did it to jonathan while he was talking about stevi. i dont know what it was he said, but he felt bad about it. so i guess we should just hold our collective horses. i am anxiously awaiting it to come on. i will keep you posted when it does
did you accidentally insert an awkward silence like those cell phone commercials or just ignore what he said?
i react to the laughter in the room, with a "what?". which is always good for a video podcast. i am sure you have noticed me do this on the dharmalars.
heheheheh! fantastic. looking forward to Ralph freaking out on the vidcast from Geekscape.
/almost at the 108 in the previous thread
Those legs are a spoiler, if you're in to those.
Holli
Sorry - that casting information was in the official synopsis, so I thought it was not spoilerish.
did rolph and boner get their superhero names?
ah yes, Ice Cat was Ralph. ok, then. did Ben get a superhero name?
Reminds me of wizard of oz, except in a tree.
Kim looks like Ralph and Ben shouldn't express mail that broom afterall :)
I don't like the fact that we have 2 Angels fans, 2 Twins fans, and 2 Red Sox fans on here who post. I feel outnumbered. Maybe Kim and I will have to form some sort of strange US-Canadian border state alliance or something to combat. Either that or Jimmy needs to truly become "one of us" and root for the M's.
Being on the west coast, I always get cautious about logging onto the 'spot starting round now. Once 7 pm hits over here, this place is off limits for me til 11 when Lost has finished.
The big thing that sucks after that is I'll come on here and it will be just me and MB going, "whoa!" to each other. All you are all like, "That was so a couple hours ago. What's the big whoop?" hahaha.
Aimee,
Desmond's jigsaw puzzle analogy is like the stuff Poirot was spouting in Evil Under the Sun.
Holli
Guess we know now that the whole Jater/Skater thing comes down to:
Jack -- Mr. Right
Sawyer -- Mr. Right Now
At this point I'm rooting for Jawyer or Sack because Kate is a skank.
Holli
Um, is that the homoerotic Lost hookup?
And yeah, you're right about the skank thing...
Was that Mrs. Hawking in the picture with the head monk?
Was the picture on the Monk's desk of him and the old lady from Desmond's last flashback?!
I really cant stand the requim theme, it is way to over used and now I guess they will use it for the "next on lost" segment for the rest of the season
It happens.
BEST OPENING EVER.
BEST PROMO EVER. Viva La Clint Mansell
Holli, I definately think that was Mrs. Hawking. There was supposed to be a huge easter egg in the last scene, based on that Jeff Jenson article from EW.
It must be Mrs. Hawkins because that's the same question I had.
sure was, folks. nearly jumped out of my chair at that.
when can we discuss all the juicy happenings of that episode? we waiting for our West Coast friends to see it? cuz i am itchin' to talk about that episode.
wow. kim totally got the whole skater vs. jater thing right. the ping pong scene was pretty cool. they sure are puttin that table to some use. i guess we get the title now. who is that chick though, and why was she carrying the picture of des and pen? she obviously knew desmond. but how? can you believe desmond almost married the same chick charlie scammed for dope money. unless i was seeing things. any thoughts?
that was a solid episode. i blame my earlier doubts on being tired and at work.
did i see ms. Hawking in a photo on the desk of the monk? the camera seemed to take a weird dip to make sure it got a shot of it.
andrew.
I think that was a different girl that Desmond was about to marry. They both were named Ruth, though.
hah, everyone caugth the ms. Hawking photo.
andrew.
Holli
you were seeing things. totally different girls.
molewoman fell from the sky cuz she was hired by Penny to look for Dez after the brazilian scientists detected the magnetic anomaly.
/brazilian? that's a lot of scientists!
I think we can talk about the episode, as this thread is usually understood to be a spoiler thread.
Kablamo for 42. A little late.
charlie's scam victim was Lucy Heatherton (thanks, Lostpedia. thlostpedia!)
yeah, kate is a jerk. but sawyer dusn't mind cuz he gets to put his Dharma in her Initiative.
kate's totally humping sawyer to get over or get back at jack. kim wins!
Pretty good episode. It kinda drug to me. I give it a seven and a half out of ten. Poor Sawyer. Did I understand him right? He doesn't mind being the consolation prize?
I suppose they'll make it all drawn out and take like two episodes to heal the parachutist, and we won't even know her story for a month or so.
Palmer, but are they sexy Brazilian scientists and are they mad?
Agree that she was definitely looking for Desmond sent by the polar ice cap guys. I don't know why she would be alone though.
Nathalia (my favorite name from the name generators) aka Holli
Yeah, Kate wants Jack which I never really disputed. My bigger point is that Sawyer is the one who really loves Kate, not Jack. So if Kate wants some lovin' she better be looking for Sawyer and his mixed tape. Also Sawyer and Kate have the only sex-ready huts on the Island it appears.
Holli
crazy. i thought i recognized her voice even though she looked a little differen. oh well. better catch on the mrs. hawkings photo. i didn't see that one. what language was that copy of catch 22 in? anybody recognize it?
It's portugese.
Did I miss something in an earlier episode? How did Charlie know that it was Penny in the picture?
Desmond told him earlier in the episode, when they first heard the helicopter.
Kate, he's just not that into you.
Don't you know they are getting sick of all that sand? You go to the beach and after a couple of days the sand just grates on your nerves. Or is it just me?
holli,
maybe jack loves kate more and is trying to stay out of the way cuz he thinks that kate likes sawyer more.
by the way, did Juliet ever tell everyone that the pregnant chicks die on this island? when she does, will it cut down on the Kate/Sawyer uglybumping? i'd love Kate to get an "oh, crap" face after Juliet mentions that.

*shudder*
good call colin. portugese huh? brazilans huh? ice caps huh? don't seem to be connected. but are they?
twins are killin 'em by the way. yeah! sorry jordan. can't help it.
Kate knows about the pregnant thing, but then we've speculated she has the banana leaf johnnies. For now I think only Jack and Kate know, but I loved that promo. "I'll lose either way." Great teaser. I'm betting it's baldy's baby.

i still have two hours to go, on the west coast.
be sure to download Jimmy's Mid-Week Segment on iTunes, i will post the link up here tomorrow.
the best part of the episode was the explanation for Desi calling everyone "brothah!"
/originally thought maybe he was an 80s professional wrestler
I listened to Jimmy pre-episode and heard the psychic Desmond theme during the scene where the priest fires him (I think). Can you be fired as a monk? I'm pretty sure I'm asking the wrong people around here.
Holli
holli, i've never been fired from being a monk...
never been a monk either though. :\
That picture looks completely photoshopped.
That photo is lame. It looks like a prop from Bewitched where Samantha would wrinkle her nose and there she'd be in the picture.
Holli
Samantha reminds me of Jeannie. And Jeannie reminds me of Jeannie.
/mmmm... jeannie...
Holli - also never been fired from being a monk
Our favorite West Coasters should be joining us soon. Next week, we should make up what happened in the episode so when they all log on, they're mystified and say "What? I don't remember that!" and start frantically fast forwarding through their LOST recordings looking to catch something that isn't there.
Well now you've told them what we're going to do Palmer. Quick, delete your post.
Holli
Kablamo!
that's terribly tempting... think they'd remember all the way back to this thread though? :)
damn! spoke to soon. now it's 5-3. damn you silva.
My Braves came from behind tonight and I had to turn switch from watching them in HD to watch LOST. Frankly it was a hard choice even this early in the season because baseball in HD is so sweet!
Holli
So the chick in the plane reads Portugese. Won't it be hi-lar-ious if she only speaks Portugese what with the Brazilian Wolfgang Puck being dead?
Holli
Sorry, I meant chopper. And speaking of the helicopter, what made it crash? It sounded fine, just like on MASH, and then it didn't. Is the Island somehow still protecting itself even thought the button is now longer in play?
Holli
Memphish, nice job snatching the 69. Impressive.
Sanjaya is gone.
Oh shit. We'd better try to hide this from Kim, in case she hasn't seen it yet. I'll go back and delete my post.
~DA
really good episode. my heart was really racing when the helecopter sound was getting close to the island.
i love when the flashback fits into the island story. good stuff.
Desmond is becoming my favorite character now, he's definitely the most interesting person on the beach...except for the enigma that is Frogurt.
so i guess bernard is still around if they took his shit
Jordan -
Re: your comment about Desmond's flashback only showing us his troubled past love life -
Actually, the thing that really stood out for me was the return of the idea that he was possibly DESTINED (by 'god') to be on the island. The monk told him he thought that god had "different plans...bigger plans" for Desmond (interesting he did not say 'greater'). If there is something akin to destiny that relates to what happens on this island amongst and between our Losties - What part is Desmond 'supposed' to play in it?
Well, I eat my earlier words about it just being me and Jordan here after 11pm PT - Morgan, Casey - thanks for joining the late shift!
It's looking more and more like Penny will be the reason they get off the island. What do you guys think about Daddy Widmore/Ed Harris being Jacob?
-J
one last thing b4 sleep takes me...
Welcone J
nighty...
-J
"when Desmond survives?' should be "when Desmond tackles him?"
-J
Holli
And to answer Denass' earlier question, I've never been fired from a job, but I haven't had that many either. My neice who's 15 years younger than me has been through more jobs than I ever will in my lifetime.
And the caveat to my above theory -- unlike Ralph, I'm always wrong. That's why I don't bet on sports either.
And did all the baseball fans hear there was a no-hitter last night. Congrats to any White Sox fans that might be around here.
Holli
Jack has a special destiny. Ugh... that movie will be horrible.
Holli
Some people have it even worse than me. From Lostpedia:
"Moriah Vineyards" is an anagram of both 'harmed visionary' and 'diversionary ham' and also 'Dharma vise irony'.
Holli
like that theory, Holli.
- SadAce
Holli
Awesome episode... I love me some Desmond. Can't wait to jump in to some discussion action after my many cups of coffee sprikled with crazy New Yorkers today. Ah, the life...
Oh, by the way, it's National High Five Day today. So make sure you do your civic duty today. High Five it today. Awesome.
nice to have more people up this early to talk to. don't forget to kablamonate the 108.
jay and jack have a nice little Producer Ryan reference at the beginning of their latest podcast. good stuff.
i can always count on... SILVER DANCER!
Holli
not sure where it came from. but it's great that he wanted a first aid kit for Parachute-Girl but was willing to let Charlie die. oops.
What is the range of a helicoptor? Where did it come from? Flew from England? Only carrying a pilot? No crew? Hmm.
steph, i'd imagine that the chopper came off the deck of a boat. then again, Michael and Walt sailed off to sea on a dinky ass little boat... maybe the Island is closer to other islands than we think?
I like the idea that the helicopter came from a ship. Good call Palmer. What about the high altitude stuff she was wearing? I wouldn't think helicopter's could fly that high because of the way they operate.
Handsome Jack is on fire this morning. He's the Sawyer of the Jay and Jack podcast.
Holli
Update to my Manchurian Candidate theory. I think Jack and Sawyer are separated at birth twins and there was some nature vs. nurture experiment going on.
Holli
There was alot of red in this episode. Also in Flashes. What's up with Desmond and all the red?
Further update on my separated at birth theory. According to Doc Jensen The Brothers Karamazov has 4 brothers. I now think Jack, Sawyer, Desmond and Ben are all separated at birth brothers and this is some grand nature v. nurture experiment and they've been brought together on the Island to conclude it.
I know this is crazy, and I'm always wrong, but I want it out there at least.
Holli
So if the helicopter flew off a ship per Palmer's suggestion, why at night? It was 2 hours until dawn. And if you can't see where to land on the Island at night would you have scuttled the helicopter and parachuted your way in as Plan A?
Holli
maybe they were afraid that an approach during the daytime would get them shot up by the Others? maybe they got shot by the Others anyhow?
p.s. i wish that the lady had landed on the Island with Airwolf.
Discuss.
Holli
LOL!!! Mixed Tape!!!
Hi Kim:
Paul
I hate Skanky Kate.
Charicters I want to exit the island feet first:
1. Kate
2. Charlie
3. Jack
4. Ben
Interesting if Locke kills Ben for control of others and then Jack for control of 815s to create peace between the two groups. Very "Hero" like.
Zach
I am also really into Desmond. He has become the new Eko. Interesting but outside the origial 815s.
Gillian,
Where are you going?

I am off to home again (Hong Kong) for the summer, and if things go according to plan, I'll be in Denmark for a year, so the chances of me watching Lost in time with you guys has gone dramatically down the tubes.
BUT, I know where I can watch them online, I'll just have to make sure I don't stumble here before I watch them due to spoilers. So I'll be around, just won't be able to participate as much as I never really did. :)
You'll be missed Gillian! Come back soon! ^__- Have fun in Hong Kong and Denmark.
Just watched the episode:
totally loved it.
2 questions:
* what does catch 22 mean and how does it tie to this ep?

oh yeah, didnt care too much about the relation ship stuff going on this ep. Kate make up ur mind allready beeotch! :D
If I would venture a guess I'd say in the end, Kate'll end up with Jack and Sawyer'll end up dead in a very dramatic way (i guess Sawyer dying is dramatic enough, but i mean seriously dramatic and emotionally heavy and stuff).
myeah...
-J
OMG KIM!!! I just realised, the parachuting thing actually happened! Hah! AND in a Desmond episode.
Ok, this is beyond funny now. Hee.
I always fall for those impossible yet sweetly tragic love stories.
p.s. I saw a hooker today
