What exactly was the significance? We see that once again most people, especially all the people who died when the plane crashed get a better life without the Island? Desmond basically gets the same ultimate result in either world in that he gets Penny. So is Des going to help Sayid destroy the Island and leave us with X world? Or is he going to destroy the X world (though I'm not sure how that would happen since the bomb did go off) and resume Island world?
anyhow, some of them know that the "real world" is different. and Old Lady Widmore does not seem to think that Desmundo is ready to pull the universes back together again.
very interesting. so, now, what's Desmond gunna do? and what will Smokey do with/to him?
Den, the last scene after the Pen-Des one was Des waking up again, and Widmore apologizing to him, and Des being totally fine. He stands up, raring to go, as Widmore starts to explain why he had to do it, and Des is all fired up, and says "when do we get started" or something like that.
Thanks Aimee, but I'm afraid you're out of order. The coffee date was set after Desmond agreed to follow Sayid. (after Sayid went all Jason Bourne on the others)
I'm using a Jason Bourne reference b/c Chuck Norris isn't really relevant here since there were zero kicks thrown.
This comment is way out of date I know, but I wasn't around the blogspot when the episode aired.
What do you guys think about the fact that there was Dharma station called "The Lighthouse", where they determined their "window" to return to the island, and the fact that apparently Jacob's fortress of solitude was also a lighthouse?
- DenAss - the Dharma station was called the Lamp Post. very close though, i thought the same thing at time of the episode.
- interesting idea that Desmond flahed to universe x and took over the consciousness of Desmond X. but shouldn't he be more confused when he wakes up in a stadium, having just asked out a woman he's never met or heard of before?
- Why does Eloise get to be so aware of alternate timelines and universes? did Jacob touch her in a special way too? Does Jacob know about Universe X?
Shit! Thanks Andrew, I completely missed that one.
And yes, I had the same thought about Eloise. Why the hell isn't SHE going to the island to assist if she's so knowledgeable? Maybe it's because she believes that nothing anyone does will make a bit of difference once the universe course corrects itself from that little explosion that happened.
btw, have we ever seen Penny's mom before? I don't ever remember seeing her.
to me, it seemed like this episode was just a lame altverse retelling of Flashes Before Your Eyes but nowhere nearly as well done.
the only thing that i enjoyed was trying to figure out whether it was actually Faraday at the piano and not some rando wearing a wig to try and make us think that it was actually him.
eloise may know about the two universes cuz she has Faradays journal from the original timeline. so, she may know that time got fucked when she let Jack at the nuke.
That reminds me, when Richard was "protecting" Eloise by knocking her out and letting Jack take the bomb through the Dharma house, do you think that was because she either WAS a candidate? Or perhaps because she was necessary for candidates to get to the island in the future?
Or was he just protecting the latest in a line of "Other" leaders?
Aimee, I thought the same thing about the coffee convo. I was sitting there like "no, no, no," I don't know exactly why I was saying it though. But yeah I was ready for Penny or Des to say something about going dutch and then ready to be really confused.
Speaking of confused, this episode really blew my mind. I need to watch it again.
And why couldn't Sayid have shot Zooey? I hate that bitch. You're a heartless killer goddammit, what the fuck are you telling her to run for? I think it's insulting to Tina Fey that people compare the two. Tina Fey is sexy and this chick is fugly. At the beginning of the episode when she says "We are go right now. What's your timeframe?" I almost shut off the TV.
my guess is that since Hawkins and Widmore didn't get a divorce, that lovechild Penny kept her mom's maiden name. either that or her mom married someone and Penny took their last name.
although, her "new" last name IS milton. which means you've got a book to read.
Ben said that the magic box was a metaphor in The Man From Tallahasse...
Jordan - I just didn't like that it took a whole episode just for the revelation that the altverse is starting to become aware of the islandverse. Something which would have been more beneficial earlier on in the season.
Also, the pacing seemed to be so random at points. There was no inconsistency and it just dragged. I wasn't interested in the character anymore. I didn't care if he would see Penny. I didn't care if he was working for Widmore. I just really didn't like it.
Lots of people got new last names in last night's alt-world. Penny actually got 2. In the original script it was Mansfield, which made me think of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park, or Jayne Mansfield which goes with the blogspot boob theme. Milton is just a mean way to make Aimee read John Milton. Or maybe it's a Milton-Bradley reference and we just need to play more Connect Four, Twister and The Game of Life.
I thought it made decent enough sense. At least as much as you can expect at this point in the crazy story.
I highly enjoyed this episode. And it didn't really have anything to do with Dez-Penny. But instead the overall episode itself.
This episode was exactly what I've been looking for with the alt-verse stories. Fun, exciting adventure, enough on it's own but with real world consequence, and with all our old favorite characters crossing paths. I actually found myself mildy bummed out when the story returned to the island.
This episode was 10 times better than the Alpert telenovela for me. I'm still baffled that the online reaction to that one was so over the top, while this one seems to be a bit more grounded. This episode actually had things happening. Exciting stuff was going down. As opposed to Alpert crying to his wife and trying to break off his chains for 30 min.
Last night's ep captured what Lost is all about for me. Fun, exciting, and good characters that I like. Oh, and it had direction. Something that has been sorely needed at times this season.
Yo Holder, Why the hate for Zoe? What's she done to be an annoying bitch who needs to die? And I think the Tina Fey comparison is quite apt. In fact, I'd say the wardrobe people went for that exact look. Seeing as how she doesn't really look like Tina Fey in this picture.
Not that I need the story to make scientific sense to enjoy it. But how exactly did Dez come to the conclusion that he needed to tell all the people on flight 815 the truth about reality? He's encourtered two people who have shared his 'visions' or whatever it is. Charlie, and Faraday. One was on 815, one wasn't. So how does Desmond then go, "ok, now I need to track down everyone who was on my plane from Australia!"? Shouldn't his natural conclusion be to tell everyone? Why just 815?
Jordan - my take was that once he met Penny (his Constant) and Flashed between universes, his consciousness got blasted open and he could see the big picture in some way - i.e. he now transcends both universes and is aware of both timelines. So, I think the "them" he's talking about are our Losties (though I doubt if log carrying guys would be included even though they DID share the "island experience" with everyone - sort of). I'm assuming he's going to try and "get the band back together" as it were.
Jordan, that picture is waaaay doctored. She's not that attractive. And at first, I admit, she did look like a broke ass Tina Fey. But she's looking less and less like her. To me, Zoe is just annoying. Like the new Frogurt. I don't like new characters getting this much screen time unless they're intriguing (like Dogen). Hopefully they meet similar fates.
And does anyone remember one of the scientists (or whatever they are) saying the machine hadn't been used in 20 years? Do you think it was used by DHARMA or do you think it was something else?
Wow - comparing her to Frogurt - that's going for the jugular man - lol
I definitely think that machine was built by Dharma (considering they were experimenting with electromagnitism) - but whether the Others used it too - not sure. Widmore knew (basically) how to use it though, so maybe they did.
I'm with Jordan re the online reaction to the Alpert episode. I thought it was the biggest let down in years, and if you think about it.. really revealed fuck all (The Island is a plug holding in Evil...whatever!) Even the podcast community raved about it...did they put ecstasy in the water? And all this "Jacob Love"...he's not a good guy at all! Plus, he looked stoned through most of that episode.
I liked this one a lot (Happily Ever After), though I am really sad to say that somewhere down the line...mid way through S5 I think, I just lost interest in the whole deal...
Yeah, I thought this ep was the best of the season. The Richard episode didn't live up to the expectation, but maybe that's because I was "spoiled" with (almost) everyone else by knowing it was coming. I did like the Jacob and MiB interactions in that episode though. The wine bottle analogy stuff worked for me.
Yeah...this season is weak as hell but I can't NOT watch for some reason. Regarding this week's episode, I support the judges decision.
The season with the 2 Davids was the strongest season ever I think. I'll probably stop watching Idol when Simon leaves...I think he's the only reason I watch. I agree with Bill Simmons...Idol is nothing without him.
AI is unwatchable now, even with Simon, who is the only redeeming character on the show. When he leaves, there will be absolutely NO reason to watch. Of course, that's also what I think about DWTS, but obviously more than a few people disagree with me there.
Havent seen of heard this anywhere yet. I think Zoe is Annie. Why else would she be getting so much face time? And then Ben can have his Love like everyone else?
I wish we would learn more about Annie, but I got the impression from Darlton that the Annie story is one that won't be told. It was just there to help illustrate Ben's frustration with Juliet because he's never had success with any of his relationships with women.
Yeah, I remember them saying in their podcast that they originally intended Annie to play a larger role in the overall story but they basically said fuck it.
I kinda hope she isn't Annie. I don't really care about her, and I don't care about Ben finding the love of a woman. Or a man.
You know, "RAD" is probably the perfect word to describe this episode. It reached a level of gnarly-ness(?) we haven't seen in awhile.
Speaking of which... does anyone remember the movie "Rad" about the BMX bikers? I just found my old copy on VHS when I was cleaning the closet this weekend. I can't wait to hook my VCR back up!
The bike dance to Real Life's "Send Me An Angel" and the final showdown at Helltrack made for some damn fine 80's cinema!
ABC has decided to add another hour to it's big Series Finale event. Initially there was a one hour recap/clip show the two hour finale and one hour Jimmy Kimmel after show, but it seems like one more hour has been added to the pre-show at 7PM!
ABC has found more time to say goodbye to "Lost."
The network has decided to supersize its farewell to the iconic drama, expanding a previously announced one-hour pre-show to two full hours. The special is now expected to air from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, right before the two-hour "Lost" finale.
Add in a special "Jimmy Kimmel Live" -- "Lost: After the Final Rose"-- airing that Sunday, and ABC is now planning to devote no less than five hours of airtime to the "Lost" swan song.
Don't know if this has been discussed, but when Widmore told Desmond that he wanted him to make a sacrifice, did anyone else think that Desmond is also a candidate, and will be the successor to Jacob?
That would be an even bigger sacrifice than dying, I think. To have to live on the island indefinitely while his wife and son live without him off the island.
- i hope Desmond is still a candidate. he certainly seemed to have been brought to the island initially, and he's still alive so he's got that going for him. Good observation about how much of a sacrifice it would be for Desmond. Someone better hide The Staff station from him, he can do some damage with those medical supplies.
- my crazy theory is that Eloise is working for Smokey. i think she was the leader in 1977 after 'the incident' and the losties blipped away, and man-in-black approached her in much the same way he did Richard, made her the same sort of offer, and she accepted. Much like Jacob was able to give Richard eternal life, Smokey was able to give her insight into the way the island works. She accepted because of her guilt over shooting her son.
- not sure how much of the 24 hour LOST finale event i'm going to watch, probably just the actual episode and whatever superfan Whoopie Goldberg has to say.
- Fringe continues to be excellent. I almost wish it hadn't been picked up for another season because I want to know how the story ends. (same goes for Supernatural)
I'm with Andrew. 5 hrs is too much. No thanks to whatever the 2 hr recap is going to be. No need to be reminded of everything that's ever happened or watch some canned interviews of people from the show talking about how great their experience has been. As with anything produced for network television, I'm almost certain it will be made for dumbos. And you know that ABC won't be able to not try to pander towards getting non-Lost viewers to check out the finale episode. Depending on my mood, I might watch the Jimmy Kimmel post-game show thing. He's pretty humorous at times and the format lends itself for more amusing cast interviews than some schlocky pre-produced ABC junk.
I'll record it all, but may or may not watch. Given that it's a Sunday I probably won't even watch the episode live. I have standing Sunday evening plans, plus its the last week of school.
Andrew - I totally agree with you that Eloise is on Team Smokey in the Alt-verse. She was just so damn adamant about Desmond dropping the whole issue...
I'm gonna try my damnedest to watch the whole 5 hours, but I may be burnt out by the time for Kimmel. I'll have plenty of time to watch it later.
...and Fringe? Fan-f'n-tastic!!! The last 4 episodes in a row have been MONEY! I was so thrilled when it got renewed for Season 3.
John Noble is having one hell of a season. It'll be a travesty if he doesn't get an Emmy nod this year.
"This is the first time I've had a chance to actually sit down after the premiere and join the blog. I loved it (period).
One thing I that crossed my mind last season when the concept of changing the timeline became feasible, well 2 things actually.
1 - Any Star Trek TNG nerd like me can recall the episode "Yesterday's Enterprise." It dealt with a change in the timeline that needed to be resolved. The only person aware of the change was Whoopi Goldberg's character "Guinin" because for some reason the "rules" of time didn't apply to her.
2 - In 1995 Marvel released the comic series "X-Men: Age of apocalypse." Without getting too spoilery on a 15 year old comic, the timeline got changed by a paradox, and the only person who knew it needed to be fixed was Bishop because the "rules" of time did not apply to him.
Is there any character on LOST that the "rules" don't apply to? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?"
Did anyone else have the same type of thought before this season, and the last episode?
Also *Theory Warning* Don't watch "Flashes B.Y.E.'s" next. I think this is are new Desmond, In the old Desmond, How did he know Charlie was going to die?? Because he was there. Im like 5min in to the episode and it fits Big time. Desmond saves Claire from drowning and tells Charlie to back off! He's got it! before i felt it a bit rude. This time I feal its more Desmond doing things that need to be done for the end game?... Charle is slowing him down on his "Time Table" tick tick must fix it? Sorry I think my "rants" where Cased by the wrong combination of LOST episodes. Much like Podcasting while on percocept! If I'm lucky I can finish this episode thougth free with out the free will to move on to onther episode of is that the real John Locke?
In finale after 6 beers thr3 episodes I believe In the Ep. FBME We have multiple Desmonds. Including are "new " flash sideways Deasmond" jumping in and out of each other" And the end game for him is rejecting Penny and saying it is'nt so. But the catch is that its are most recent Desmond. Saying bye to PeenheY! not the oold loser one1! So the Desmond with the perfect life has to go back i time and tell the women he's had a child with, searched thru time and space to basicly FUCK OFF(In a polite your dads to rich WAY)Sorry 4 the Jordan lenght comments ideas RantJ/K
I really hope Desmond doesn't haven't to sacrifice himself.
If this were the case, we'd have to devote an entire episode to Desmond reading "Our Mutual Friend." Maybe the finale will be Desmond reading it with the Lost cast as the actors as Desmond narrates the story.
Though I'm clearly kidding, that could possibly be awesome.

If you watched this episode and didn't think it was the most significant of the season, I will stab you in the throat.
LOST.
The Cat's Pajamas.

i like LOST.
I don't even know what to say about this episode. It was everything I hoped for and more.
I feel pretty damn satisfied.
Kudos LOST writers. I'm gonna need some time to digest this one.
Finally, evidence that Juliet was right.

ok, so looks like it may indeed be "it's a wonderful LOST." so, widdy is playing Clarence to Desmond's Jimmy (Stewart).
good stuff!
the Altiversers know that they're a manufactured timeline. and that they're all super horny for hot babes from the regularverse. so, it's go time!!!
well, maybe not hot babes cuz one of 'em is Charlotte... :\
anyhow, some of them know that the "real world" is different. and Old Lady Widmore does not seem to think that Desmundo is ready to pull the universes back together again.
very interesting. so, now, what's Desmond gunna do? and what will Smokey do with/to him?
another season won by the Desmond-centric episode.
Did anyone else notice how Giaccino (sp?) blended in the theme from Jaws when Charlie and Des were in the car underwater?
And is Charlie now "Flashing" like in "Flashes Before Your Eyes"?
Charlie Widmore said that Desmond was only out for a few seconds before he came to.
Penny said that Desmond fainted when she shook his hand.
I suppose if we see that Desmond passed out right after he began following Sayid then we'll know for sure.
I'm a tad curious regarding Juliet's dying words involving asking someone to have coffee, then Des doing it.
And why haven't we seen any other characters having these hallucinations in the alternate timeline?
Has Jack seen an alternate version of his destiny?
What about Sawyer? Has he had any visions of Juliet?
after the date was set, Desmond asked Minkowski to get him the names of everyone on 815 so he could show them the truth.
which sounds like he has to almost kill them. prolly not his plan. hopefully not his plan.
thanks Palmer. Where was Minkowski?
oh snap! wait a minute! which timeline are you referring to?
I loved all the parallels for Charlie. Especially how instead of Charlie always being destined to die in the flash sidways he was destined to live.
heheh. Alti-kowski. Desmond's driver.
can we get an Alt-Abbadon? that dude was freaky!
random question after last week's podcast:
Which character would you "fuck like you hate them" because that always ends up being fun?
Den, the last scene after the Pen-Des one was Des waking up again, and Widmore apologizing to him, and Des being totally fine. He stands up, raring to go, as Widmore starts to explain why he had to do it, and Des is all fired up, and says "when do we get started" or something like that.
apparently, you missed a few scenes.
aimee, did you notice Alt-Desmond's shirt was busting at the buttons to unleash his manly chest to you? pretty hilarious. NO SHIRT CAN CONTAIN HIM!!!
Was it me or did it look like Jacks hair was graying?
This comment is way out of date I know, but I wasn't around the blogspot when the episode aired.
What do you guys think about the fact that there was Dharma station called "The Lighthouse", where they determined their "window" to return to the island, and the fact that apparently Jacob's fortress of solitude was also a lighthouse?
I totally noticed that too Kelly Jo. Grayer and lot longer than we're used to seeing it.
- DenAss - the Dharma station was called the Lamp Post. very close though, i thought the same thing at time of the episode.

I was thinking the exact same thing Andrew. How does Eloise seem to be the only person with a full understanding of what's going on?
I know she's done this kind of stuff in the past, but there's gotta be something more to her.
Is Eloise working for Smokey?!?
Shit! Thanks Andrew, I completely missed that one.

btw, have we ever seen Penny's mom before? I don't ever remember seeing her.
one more thing, the old lady hair does NOT look good on Eloise.
what a load of bollocks.
i'm so bored of this altverse shit. two episodes in three weeks where 90% of the action isn't on the island (and in present time) and there's, what, like 5 episodes left until the finalé? ugh. hopefully next week
to me, it seemed like this episode was just a lame altverse retelling of Flashes Before Your Eyes but nowhere nearly as well done.
the only thing that i enjoyed was trying to figure out whether it was actually Faraday at the piano and not some rando wearing a wig to try and make us think that it was actually him.
although i did laugh at the thought of Aimee jizzing with joy when she saw wet Desmond again...

So which timeline did faraday write the Journal in?

ALT EKO
for he was also exposed to quite a bit of electromagnetism
Phew. The whole time I was nervous Desmond was gonna die.
Many new quotes brothas. Better than all the episodes of this season combined.
Aimee, I thought the same thing about the coffee convo. I was sitting there like "no, no, no," I don't know exactly why I was saying it though. But yeah I was ready for Penny or Des to say something about going dutch and then ready to be really confused.

Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever that he wouldnt kill Zoey. Unless...maybe..he's starting to snap out of it? A little?
I got a Bernard Herrmann feel from the score. But what do I know?
God, I had missed Desmond.
why let Zoey live? always leave one person alive to tell everyone else about the massacre.
also, he may have seen the actress' pole dancing videos that Ally was talking about.
there's an awesome article on io9.com about last night's episode. unfortunately, there's also a SPOILERY link with next week's episode name. *grumble*
Hey peeps!
I tell you, watching a LOST episode with Desmond and Penny is as close as I've ever come to a religious experience. Gets me EVERY time.
Have pity on the Altiverse, it may still have some part to play.
COFFEE CRISP FTW!
Desmond + Claire + Widmore + Minkowski + Wet Desmond + Charlie + Jack + Eloise + Faraday + Penelope x Aimee = Lostgasm.
So who else was hoping the EMP was going to knock Desmond's clothes off? I just wish Sayid had killed Zoey.
Holli
i wasn't hoping for his clothes to come off but i did joke about it since it happened last time he was bombarded by massive EMF.
i was really hoping for Penny or him to twist their ankle like Jack did.
a rare alirio sighting on the blogspot! we miss you, you canadian bastard.
so, what's Smokey gunna do with Desmond? What's Desmond going to do when he's hanging with Mr. Cooper (Locke if he'd had his dad's last name)?
is Alterna-Locke going to want to "fix" AlternaWorld if he's dead in RegularWorld?
***NSFW***
For Ally and Ryan.
For everyone.
amazing steph. simply amazing.
uh... guess i'll wait until i'm not at work to maybe click on those. maybe?
i have a feeling they're supernatural or buffy related though.
holy fuck! that's pretty great. just the audio is NSFW (thankfully cuz i'm at work).
really like the "For Everyone" one. heheheheheh. excellent.
leave it to Des to save the flash sideways
Thinking that the ghostbuster machine would result in Desmond emerging naked?
Guilty as charged.
I haven't seen anyone discuss the issue with Penelope having a new last name....anyone?
Herlihy is nuts. That was a great episode.
Could the generator thing be the magic box? Was it Alt-Cooper in the Black Rock? Still waiting for an answer on that one.
my guess is that since Hawkins and Widmore didn't get a divorce, that lovechild Penny kept her mom's maiden name. either that or her mom married someone and Penny took their last name.

Since when does a Desmond story appear with any sense of order?
The rules don't apply to him, dude. We're supposed to be as confused and bewildered as he is, so the less order and more random, the better it works.
Lots of people got new last names in last night's alt-world. Penny actually got 2. The Richard episode didn't live up to the expectation, but maybe that's because I was "spoiled" with (almost) everyone else by knowing it was coming. I did like the Jacob and MiB interactions in that episode though. The wine bottle analogy stuff worked for me.
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!
The power was out city-wide yesterday in my neck of the woods. I missed watching LOST live last night. I had no TV, no Internet, NO NOTHING.
I was avoiding the blogspot like the plague. I just finished watching the episode....
...one word...
Cramazeballs.
Oh, and I almost gave up on American Idol tonight. Is anyone watching?
Yeah...this season is weak as hell but I can't NOT watch for some reason. Regarding this week's episode, I support the judges decision.
The season with the 2 Davids was the strongest season ever I think. I'll probably stop watching Idol when Simon leaves...I think he's the only reason I watch. I agree with Bill Simmons...Idol is nothing without him.
Come on, Kyle. Don't be like that. There's nothing wrong with mindless entertainment.
Come on, Kyle.
Come on Kyle.
Commas are important.
Was watching the Dark Knight tonight and I'm thinking that Richard is the mayor of Gontham in his flash sideways.
Not just the commas, but also their placement:
Come, on Kyle.
4 or 5 more weeks till the LARS!!!!!!
Or a man.
I'm gonna say that Zoe is Widmore's lova' and will be all too willingly sacrificed for the greater good (ie- the Island)
Annie is hiding in the Magic Box.
I haven't had a chance to jump in here, but HOW FUCKING RAD WAS LOST?!!
Holy Moses. Is my theory still holding up?
probably.
Boo, AI
Kim, that's awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Don't know if this has been discussed, but when Widmore told Desmond that he wanted him to make a sacrifice, did anyone else think that Desmond is also a candidate, and will be the successor to Jacob?
That would be an even bigger sacrifice than dying, I think. To have to live on the island indefinitely while his wife and son live without him off the island.
thoughts?
My mom thought that DenAss
- My food order tonight was #108. I'm a nerd.
I'll watch all 5 hours. Hell I'd watch a 24 hour recap show before the finale
fringe is good stuff, andrew. definitely enjoying it. that john noble guy is a pretty compelling actor.
amusing LOST comic is not for LOST newbies.
Holli
It's the last day of LOST. I'd watch 8 hours of that shit.
Is it LOSTuesday yet?
just before the premiere of LA_X I wrote:
I really should stop waiting on Morgan to catch up on Fringe. John Noble is outstanding but remember... Emmy voters hate Sci fi.
Caution!!! Don't watch Happily Ever After, and The Substitute. In a Row I hurt things in my brain that cant be fixxed.
So the Desmond with the perfect life has to go back i time and tell the women he's had a child with, searched thru time and space to basicly FUCK OFF(In a polite your dads to rich WAY)Sorry 4 the Jordan lenght comments ideas RantJ/K
heheheheh. i like the idea of watching the desmond episodes out of order and with plenty of beer. helps simulate the "Desmond experience."
of course, aimee would prefer a different sort of Desmond experience. ga-row!
I really hope Desmond doesn't haven't to sacrifice himself.
If this were the case, we'd have to devote an entire episode to Desmond reading "Our Mutual Friend." Maybe the finale will be Desmond reading it with the Lost cast as the actors as Desmond narrates the story.
Though I'm clearly kidding, that could possibly be awesome.
setup for a
looking forward to hearing TLI gush about the episode & Aimee's continued threats of violence against anyone who hasn't blown away (KABLAMO!)
