I totally loved that episode. Do we love Sawyer even more because it's been weeks since we've seen him? Or do I only love it because I got to watch it at home with my wine in peace? I seriously could have done without the Mader. She is nasty. But other than that.
I think overall I enjoyed Dr. Linus more, but this was still a spectacular episode! I don't see this train slowing down anytime soon.
I really enjoy the on-island stuff, but the off-island story has gotten better and better each week.
Sawyer as a cop instead of a con man (albeit an ethically-deficient cop) was a great touch. The fact that the rest of his life remains relatively unchanged is pretty intriguing.
Also, this was by far the best use of the character crosses off-island. I even enjoyed the cameo by Charlie's brother.
For a moment, I thought Flocke had morphed into Dr. Phil. It felt like he was talking to Kate and Claire like children. You have to give it to the man, though. He really plays the compassionate victim well.
Something tells me the Widmore / Sawyer con is gonna go both ways. And obviously Widmore is well prepared for whatever it is he plans to do (portable sonic fence... really?), so I wonder how long he's known that this was going down. And how?
When Claire hugged Kate towards the end, did anyone else think that a knife in the back would shortly follow? I'm still not ruling it out. Even Locke said she was batshit crazy!
I'm also really interested to find out who this "mother" is that Locke was talking about. She sounds like a bitchier Eloise Hawking.
I still can't get over Sayid staring intently at Claire trying to kill Kate. Is any shred of good completely gone from that man? Methinks so and that can't bode well for Sayid's future as redemption doesn't seem to be in the cards.
I regret bad-mouthing Lost on my podcast with Jordan earlier today. Because that was a great episode. Even with Ginger, Sawyer is hawt. I mean, that was an entire hour of hawtness. And then another hour of Seth Bullock and Shane Vendrell. Whew.
I like Sawyer, and his sideways was brilliant, I thought, but stealing the sub out from under the war... That's about the dumbest thing he's ever said...
I went back and watched the scene from LA X with Sawyer and Kate in the elevator. Now that we know he's a cop, I cannot understand why he covered for her. Unless he's only using the cop thing as a cover. Does he think of himself as more a criminal than an officer and feels he needs to "protect his own kind?" Is it just because she's cute?
Can't sleep. This Daylight Savings time has me mixed up.
If Widemore's people didn't kill the Ajira survivors, what did? Widemore just arrived on the island and the pile of dead bodies had been there a while judging by the apparent stench.
Good episode! Not emotionally moving, no island mythology, but good character moments. Totally enjoyed it.
I don't care what you all are on about re: Charlotte - she looked hot here. My wife agreed with me.
I'm also w/Palmer in that the slap (while effective at saving Kate's life) was a BIT of a shock - not big, but just a "whoa" moment.
So, Widdy wants to kill Flocke? But is he an ally of the Jacobites?
And re: Flocke - the quote that stood out to me was when he told Sawyer that it was "kill or be killed" at the Temple. How? Not that it even seems possible to hurt him but, we haven't seen any aggressive action toward smokey by the Others have we? Seems like all they were trying to do was protect the temple and themselves from him. Ben even used him/it to kill Keamy's men.
I think Det. Ford didn't interfere with Kate at the airport because she wasn't his problem. I write it off to cops from different jurisdictions not helping each other out. Why should LAPD help out airport Rent-a-cops or the US Marshals or worse TSA? (God I hope the TSA isn't reading this and end up putting me on a watch list.)
Here's a better idea about Sawyer at the airport that I'm stealing from someone who stole it somewhere else. Sawyer doesn't get involved at the airport because he'd told LAPD and Miles he was in Palm Springs not Australia. He was preserving that lie.
thats a good point, holli. also, he was coming back from australia in a desperate bid to murder someone.
also, cute, harmless looking girl in cuffs being chased by the keystone cops who werent cooperative with him when he asked what that code means... too bad for them, he's got other things to do.
Ok, Charles Widmore is an enemy of Flocke. Charles Widmore is an enemy of Ben Linus. Ben is enemy of Flocke. Ben Linus is team Jacob. If Flocke is enemy of both Widmore and Ben why are they not on the same team? Why did Widmore want to kill everyone when he sent the freighter? I call shenanigans.
Dido! I would have gave this episode a 7 if it didnt have "The mask" in it what the F*&^. Now it's a 5or6 instead:( I would rather he hook up with Cindy or Libby, or Shannon,or Anna Lucia, dare I say;,or Penny for all i give a hoot. Why the " I'm not as old as they want me to be on this episode of lost?"
Widmore came to kill everyone in "New Otherton". Widmore and Ben were for sure not on the same side. Ben was for Jacob and Widmore ... not.
Ben summoned the Smoke Monster to "New Otherton" and it scared of Keamy and his goons.
Also the Smoke Monster was depicted as a protector in the temple...
Ok, so um now, the Smoke Monster is killing everyone that's not joining, and is going to Widmore's sub to take him out.
But shouldn't it seem like Widmore and the Smoke Monster are on the same team? Why would they be trying to keep him out?
Here's my thing. I think that Jacob and Man in Black both have, or in Jacob's case, had, the ability to turn into the Smoke Monster. Because it totally seams like we have a bipolar Smoke Monster on the island. A protector and an assassin?
"Why did Widmore want to kill everyone when he sent the freighter?"
"Ben and widmore like jacob but not each other. they both want to be jacob's right hand man."
It seemed to me in S.4 that Widmore was simply trying to get Ben out of power and/or kill him at any cost - no matter how many casualties. Now I'm wondering if that's his only motive - he called the island "mine" in the past. What does that mean?
Season 1 Locke: "i looked into the eye of this island and what i saw was beautiful" (as far as I can remember, we never actually saw Locke 'looking into the eye of the island', did we?
Season 2 Eko: "that is not what i saw John"
It wouldn't surprise me to find out that Jacob could turn into a White smoke monster...
- while the dual smoke monster thing is definitely a possibility, it's not one i want to subscribe to. i like mysteries on Lost and am fine with open-ended questions but some things need to be clear cut.
- Widmore & Ben are fighting for ownership of the island. They are both purportedly on the side of Jacob, but probably only because they felt like Jacob was the man in charge. So Widmore was always trying to get Ben out of his seat of power.
- the stuff with ms. Hawking & Widmore from last season makes more sense now. They were trying to get as many of the candidates back to the island as possible to fight the man-in-black. So Hawking's lines about getting everyone back to the island or 'god help us all,' wasn't about fixing the timeline or making sure the conditions of Ajira 316 were balanced with those of Oceanic 815, as it was about stacking Jacob's side.
- the only problem i have is that Ilana & Bram's team was so anti-Widmore, but i guess that could be explained by how impure his motives were.
- listened to Stephanie & Jordan talk about Breaking Bad, LOST and So You Think You Can Dance on Stephanie's podcast Confessions Of An Internet Addict. good times.

OK...I haven't been into the flash-sideways thing until RIGHT FUCKING NOW.
Miles and Sawyer are the new Crockett and Tubbs!
I'm with you Holder. This is the first sideways world I'd rather live in that the Island world.
They've gone backwards chronologically on the Island. This episode starts at least a day before the last episode ended.

Ugh Charlotte
Annnnnnd Locke does what millions of LOST fans have wanted to do for years...
Charlotte sighting? FIRE IN THE HOLE!
Damn. Spoke too soon. Achara and Jack or Charlotte and Sawyer -- which is more taint-y? Discuss.
Holli
Did you see the look on Sayid's face as Claire tried to shank Kate? Awesome!
As much as it pains me to say, I'd take Charlotte over Bai Ling ANY day!
Miles is the woman in his partnership with Sawyer
No, Sawyer was the liar so I think that makes HIM the woman.
Oh snap!
That sunflower is forever ruined for me now.
Holli
Yeah, the Ginger-taint is still pretty nasty.
Were they trying to recreate the scene with Juliet in LaFluer? Because if so it was terrible.
I totally loved that episode. Do we love Sawyer even more because it's been weeks since we've seen him? Or do I only love it because I got to watch it at home with my wine in peace? I seriously could have done without the Mader. She is nasty. But other than that.

Fun episode!
- Sawyer working for a police department that lets him sleep with potential felons
- Tina Fey getting the drop on Sawyer
- Locke picking up Claire like luggage
- Sawyer getting Good, Bad & Ugly, Yojimbo-style
Ahhh...the island bitch-slap! But seriously, Charlotte?
I think overall I enjoyed Dr. Linus more, but this was still a spectacular episode! I don't see this train slowing down anytime soon.

Yep. I like LOST.
Oh yeah... the bitch-slap was f'n awesome!
Why couldn't anyone have done that when she was screaming "My baby!" for three seasons instead of waiting until she was trying to kill Kate?
that bitch slap was pretty shocking. jeez!
was everyone else rooting for Claire in that fight like me and Sayid were?
ah, but then kate does something with her hair and now she's permitted to live again.
dunno why i didn't put two and two together about Widmore and those dudes jumping out of bushes immediately.
ew. charlotte? she did look better than on the island, i guess. but, still...
were we all hoping that his blind date would be Juliet?
Miles dad works in a museum. huh. guess he got his one armed ass out of the blast radius pretty fast.
did liam fly out from australia to bail his brother out?
is Widmore a good guy?
"go look in my drawer. but dont look in my secret clubhouse folder!!!!"
i like LOST.
KA-BLAMMO
And off island Charlotte is freaking hot. I'm sorry Kim and Aimee, but she is.
And it's getting easier now to count the female cast that Sawyer HASN'T slept with vs. those that he has.
I regret bad-mouthing Lost on my podcast with Jordan earlier today. Because that was a great episode.

p.s. That car crash scared the shit out of me!
oh yeah. wtf was Kate running from this time? I know Kate's always on the run, but this just seemed kind of forced. Unless I'm forgetting something
did he maybe learn to pilot the Dharma Sub in his days off in '74 thru '77?
yeah! that car crash was pretty WTF. good stuff.
and is Smokey one charming bastard or what?
neat article about "Why We Love LOST from io9.
denass, she's just a woman driver.
ZIIIIIIIIIING!!!!
Sorry, one more...

good question Tommy. I've a feeling there's more to that story that we'll find out very soon. otherwise that's a fairly big plot hole.
it;s cuz he recognized her from those Live Links commercials.
Lol.
Can't sleep. This Daylight Savings time has me mixed up.
If Widemore's people didn't kill the Ajira survivors, what did? Widemore just arrived on the island and the pile of dead bodies had been there a while judging by the apparent stench.
What/Who does Widemore have locked up on the sub?
I like questions. I like Lost.
I thought Widmore was surprised that the dark man took Locke's body.
I thought Widmore was a bad guy?
Good episode! Not emotionally moving, no island mythology, but good character moments. Totally enjoyed it.

nite
At this point, I'll be happy if the last scene of Lost is Jules and James having coffee.
I don't think you can kill Locke, you can only contain him. I think they (CW) hopes to trap him in the sonic barrier (box him in).
At least that's what I would do.
Ooh, so today is 3/16 and there was some Ajira 316 stuff going on in the ep. Kinda neat...but just kinda.
I think Det. Ford didn't interfere with Kate at the airport because she wasn't his problem. I write it off to cops from different jurisdictions not helping each other out. Reconblamo!
If Claire gets on the Chopper with Squirrel Baby does it count toward Desmond's vision?
Charlotte desperately needs to spend a week on Jersey Shore before doing nude scenes. I didn't have any sunglasses, and now I might be blind.
Oh, and I almost punched my flat screen when I saw her Eric Stoltz-Mask face. A slutty dress and some makeup doesnt make her hot, I'm sorry.
As James was approaching the "redhead", I was like "NO... NO... NO... NO... FUCK."
I call shenanigans.

ben and widmore like jacob but not each other. they both want to be jacob's right hand man.
i think both ben and widmore are bad guys though. even if they're fighting on the good guy side, they both are pretty awful human beings.
OK here is where I'm confused.
Widmore came to kill everyone in "New Otherton". Widmore and Ben were for sure not on the same side. Ben was for Jacob and Widmore ... not.

"Ben and widmore like jacob but not each other. they both want to be jacob's right hand man."

There are 2 Smoke Monsters. 1 is Jacob, 1 is the Man In Black.

We beat that dead horse, didn't we, Andrew.?
I have decided Widmore sent the freighter to kill everyone on the island to prevent Locke from becoming Flocke.
3x05 (Cost of Living)
Locke: I saw a very bright light which was beautiful.
Eko: That is not what I saw.
3x15 (Left Behind)
Jungle sisters Kate & Juliet hiding in the banyan tree while an intense bright light flashes over them.
Juliet: Are we safe?
Kate: You tell me.
Verdict: Juliet knew about the black smoke (because of the pylons) but not the light one.
I miss Eko. and Juliet.
mmm... cake!
I was having a terrible day and mentioned that I could use a Sawyer episode and low and behold, I got what I needed. Yummy Sawyer goodness!
i love this show, but right now it feels like its just going through the motions.
Nothing is incredibly intriguing to me.
It's good, it's just kind of there.
Why cake?
ralph-, I've been saying that for over two seasons now. For tv, Lost is good. But for Lost standards, it pales in comparison to the first two or three seasons.
I was more shocked by the bitch slap than I was by Claire trying to shank Kate.
I'm excited to see where the Flocke/Widmore thing is going.
I'm also excited to see the
new girl.
Finally, we get a pole dancer and Ally posts on the blogspot. That's what we've been missing all along. Do you think she manages to twirl around the periscope?

Ralph & Steph - bummed that you guys feel like that about the show. :(
While it hasn't bothered me, I do feel like the pacing overall has slowed back down this season (despite having a lot of details in common w/season 1), and it seems to me to be due to the structure of the dual-narrative format (the alt-verse). Switching back and forth between storylines feels less like a cohesive narrative at this point and more like putting a puzzle together. I'm just really hooked to see how they're going to end this, and I'm enjoying the puzzle pieces they're giving us each week.
Hope that didn't sound rant-y - what you said made me think.
Random thought/theory not supported by anything that passed through my insomniac brain re: the idea that perhaps Jacob is not all he seems to be. One way writers could make him less 'good':
Jacob, when he was a man long ago, was NOT peaceful and benevolent. He originally accepted the role of 'protector' of the island b/c it would make him immortal (it was a purely selfish act) and he took MiB, who perhaps was perfectly normal & not 'dark' (actually a kind person) with him because the island required two people (don't ask me why or how).
