I don't get how Friends is 3rd? i can understand almost the rest of the list... but Friends? It's only something to be watched when there's nothing else on and you can't be arsed doing anything else.
i'm at a comic-con. but have done nothing remotely LOST related.
strangely, our "king sized bed" is two seperate small beds. so, we'll be living like Robert and Laura Petrie tonight. except without a hilarious set of neighbors or co-workers.
and the bathroom door is a sliding door that's semi-translucent.
so, you can see a shadow person peeing. which we're really not interested in. i think we'll be hiding under our blankets with the tv up loud while the other uses the facilities.
on the plus side, we're mere hundreds of feet away from two boats investigated by the Ghost Hunters once. interesting!
Looks like this blog has a pretty addictive collective personality - Lost, Doctor Who, the Wire, Prison Break - all watched faithfully by at least some of us here right?
I don't know if the US have a different attitude about Friends as us lot do, Ryan.
Over here you can rely on there probably being an episode of Friends on right now on any of C4's channels so it's not something we tend to look forward to as something that is ever-present and reliable for a few smirks if there's literally nothing else worth watching.
- i'm not on the twitter and while part of me is sad that i'm missing some of the comicon news, i'd imagine trying to following a lot of people posting their experiences of such a sensory overloading event would just be chaos. i'm going to keep up with the news at /filmcast. They posted photos of the Prisoner booth today. I want to see that miniseries NOW!
what days is the Lost panel?
- between all of the cable stations, Friends is probably on 16 hours a day in the US. not my cup of tea but it's there if you need it.
Regarding Chris' comments on friends and the UK and America. Friends was very big here back when it was on. Specifically during the earlier to middle seasons. But I was very surprised to see that it was extremely popular in the UK when I visited about 5-6 years ago. As usual a lot of American shows that get big over there usually do so a bit after the fact. But still, I was caught off guard at how much Friends stuff was around and talked about. It's always very interesting as to exactly which US imports end up connecting over there. As for the most part, much of it doesn't. I'm sure it's not as crazy as it was 6 years ago. But it making #3 on that uk site wasn't a shocker to me in the least. People over there are still obsessed with Jennifer Aniston. That's another thing that I find intriguing. How the UK tabloids will pick a couple American celebs and make them their own. Madonna makes sense as she tried to become British. But Aniston? Guess you need to cherry pick a few when some of your bigger celebs are former Big Brother contestants. :P
Let's not forget everyone's favourite tabloid slag, Jodie Marsh. Also, personally I could watch Friends for hours without getting bored, but i'm not sure i'd call it addictive.
almost met Jorge Garcia but my text messages were behind the times. all i got to do was walk by him while some kid pestered him on my way to meet up with Ralph.
yes, we literally did a "there's Jorge Garcia and, oh, there's ralph!!!"
i didnt want to be one of those guys who hounds celebrities. but i totally should have cuz that dude is the man.
having fun so far but this place is crazy busy.
oh, and we changed rooms to one without a translucent door.
oh! elizabeth mitchell. saw her at the "Wonder Women" panel.
So, I take my daughter to go see a movie in the park last night & there was an Elvis impersonator there b4 the movie (part of the pre-movie festivities), and thanks to my sweet but VOCAL little girl I ended up getting pulled up by "Elvis" for his "Hawaiian" number during which I ended up having a grass skirt and a coconut bra put on me while he sang one of the King's Hawaiian favorites. Hope my neighbors don't start crossing the street to avoid me now - lol
- i imagine "Yakety Sax" playing during both of these situations, and it's hi-larious.
- sitting at work, trying to keep my eyes open, is definitely better than fighting the crowds at Comicon. wait, i don't have a bunch of free swag, and i didn't have a near brush with Jorge Garcia. never mind.
Just noticed something in "Raised by Another" - When Claire goes back to see the psychic a second time and he gives her the plane ticket for 815, at the moment when he says that the couple he found in L.A. are "good people", the eerie and haunting 5-6 note melody which you hear in S.2 in the D.I. orientation films (as well as elsewhere) plays for the first time that I've noticed. It has what sounds like a heavy echo on it to make the effect very distant.
So, I'm trying to remember what the general consensus has been about this guy - because now, looking at the combination of his intense interest in (soon-to-be-named) Aaron + his drive to get her on 815 + his apparently immediate access to a large sum of $$ like $6000 (he promises $12000 total once she's in L.A.), and his use of the "good people" language, he would seem to be perhaps an Other. At first b/c of the DI melody playing I was thinking DI but the "good people" comment and the attempt to misdirect her seemed more Others-y.
MB -- you should bring your hula act to Memphis. Elvis Death Week is fast approaching. I think it's the week we're at the beach which is not a bad thing. It's always ridiculously hot that week for the Vigil.
As for Claire and the psychic, a lot of people think the psychic is like Whoopie in Ghost, a fraud who got a real vision. (I've never actually seen Ghost, so I'm just appropriating the ideas of others, or is it Others?) I kind of like the idea that Christian Shephard somehow arranged for Claire to get on the flight, but I'm not sure how that would work exactly given his drunkenness and death. Claire and Aaron and the psychic thing is something I definitely want addressed in S6.
Steph - read on Twitter about the autographs Alirio got 4 u - MOST EXCELLENT!
Holli - Yeah I did also take note that he seemed extra surprised by the vision re: Aaron, and that could certainly be surprise at actually HAVING a vision for the first time. The thing that piqued my thoughts was the music. Maybe it was just Cuselof being generally mysterious in S.1 - but it makes sense to me that this guy could be part of the same off-island network that Ben's woman-butcher-friend is part of. It just fit really nicely narratively and the distant sound of the music implied (to me) a tiny preview of storylines (Others and Dharma) to come.
- on the one hand, i kind of appreciate the tongue in cheek approach to the ARG. The last ARG held a lot of potential in the structure of the testing and role play of the Dharma Initiative but then obviously fucked up royally. The fact that this is basically an advertisement for the Season 5 DVDs and a bunch of corny jokes is okay by me. *theme song for Lowered Expectations*
Holy wow... I just read a recap of the panel and it sounded fucking nuts. So many things to talk about...but I don't know if its spoilery...probably not, but I don't wanna be the first.
I'm not sure what we want to do about the Comic Con panel vis a vis spoilers. If you want to see some of what happened at the panel, here's the Oceanic Ad that aired. Here's the Mr. Cluck's ad. Here's a Nestor Carbonell interview. Audio is not great.
Perhaps MB can start a panel thread on the SPLOG so people who want to discuss this can do that. if it has its own thread then we can discuss it without seeing the spoilers in the other threads.
Somebody stole my Lost Babies idea that I've mentioned on multiple occasions on this blog!!! Ok, my thing had to do with all the children on the show. But still, I referenced the Muppet Babies theme song!!! (shakes fist)
Three relatively new action figure Lost Parody episodes that I have yet to post on the blog. Funny as always. But be warned MB. You might not like what the Star Trek ep says about the show. :P Rather funny and on point commentary on Locke trying to convince everyone to come back in the last one.
Making my way through all the Comic Con stuff on the webz! (wipes brow)
There is now a thread on the boards to discuss the panel and all things Lost from Comic Con AND there is a new thread on the SPLOG (thanks for the suggestion Chris).
Aaaahhh! It's too damn hot! Been in the upper 90's the past few days. And supposed to top 100 tomorrow. Which if you are familiar with the moderate Seattle climate, is like 120 degrees to us.
Saw "I Love You, Man" the other day. Yeah, I'm a bit behind. It was alright. Was a lot more of a chick flick than advertised. Still somewhat funny and watchable. Just a bit too precious and not as consistantly funny as I'd have liked.
- i just watched 'I Love You, Man' last night (technically this morning at 4am). I liked it too. I like most of that cast, but I have also been incredibly annoyed by them all in some roles. I used to hate Jason Segel, mostly because of the whiny characters he played on Freaks & Geeks and Undecided, but he was solid. Of course, i'm in love with Rashida Jones.
As far as comedies go, still have to see "The Hangover"
I hear you Jordan - forecast high here is 105° today. Christ. Last evening coming to an overheated house sucked - cooking dinner was literally almost unbearable. It actually would even be a little bearable if humidity wasn't high. I know all of you east of us deal with this regularly (so I really am not bitching for sympathy), but this is why I moved here from the midwest. I think we might just go have dinner somewhere just to be air conditioned.
Yowza Pacific Northwest! It's only about 80 here today. Of course, we've had that Seattle constant gray with drizzle on the downside. On the upside that meant I couldn't cut my grass. On the downside it will now be more voluminous when I get to cut it.
I haven't seen The Hangover yet either. I don't know why but when I find 2-3 free hours, going to the movie theater and spending $10 isn't high on my list. I'd rather just watch it in my home eventually.
"going to the movie theater and spending $10 isn't high on my list. I'd rather just watch it in my home eventually."
Yeah - my motivation has to be pretty high (all rated G films excluded) to go see it at the theater now (despite my recent venture to the theater to see "Knowing" - ugh). And now - I managed to hook my iMac up to my LCD TV so the online world is no longer limited to computer chair viewing.
Was anyone able to sit through the Michael Emerson Hurley audition?
It took me like 15 viewings to get through it completely w/o falling on the floor laughing.
Anyone discover any secret Lost stuff? I didn't get what the point of Charlie coming out at the end of the panel was. A tease?
mb, did you see Hangover yet? It's pretty good, I strongly recommend it. Definitely not a movie you have to see in theatres though. I recommend watching the latest Harry Potter in the theatre though if you haven't already.
Friends is only on in syndication on TBS and local stations (I think CW affiliates, but I might be wrong).
The most syndicated show in the U.S. has got to be either Family Guy (Cartoon Network, CW, and TBS) or Scrubs (local station, Comedy Central, WGN, MTV).
did not unfortunately - I'll probably end up renting it. Actually, one great thing about hooking computer to TV is that I can watch iTunes movie rentals on the LCD now. And rentals are for like 30 days - nice.
RE: The Prisoner - yes, it does indeed look good. I had somehow missed that Ian McKellen was starring - most excellent. You can watch the 10 min. Comic Con preview and several other videos at amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner
Palmer - Internet connection at the house has generally been good. Had to trade in my modem last week b/c it kept randomly disconnecting, but things seem to be stable now. Don't love Comcast, but in general I have had few problems (unlike some others I understand)
I'm pretty sure better quality versions will eventually be released through the Official Lost Podcast and on ABC.com. There's also a Mysteries of the Universe thing.
Might not sound like much to some of you. But seriously. That's a record for here. Like ever. Not only is it rough for us as we aren't used to it. Get this Southerners. Most people here do not have air conditioners. It's a luxury for the wealthy. It's 1 am and 82 degrees outside right now. I can't sleep.
And which if that's the case, I'm immediately more excited for the final season. In that scenario I have absolutely zero clue what is going to happen and where they are going with the storyline. Ok, maybe I might have some ideas of what they might try to do. But it's nowhere near as telegraphed and obvious as the latest island story that they were telling last season. Really, what more can they do with that besides tell us the history of Jacob and his friend? As far as all the other characters are concerned, not a whole helluva lot. But in a reset universe, the possibilities are limitless. And for those who say, "But then everything we've watched won't matter!", I don't think that's the case. If they do in fact do a re-set and everybody lands, I think the theme will prob have something to do with the whole universe course-correcting itself angle in that if people's lives are meant to intersect and people are destined to be together or whatever, it will still happen. Just in a different way. I'm guessing we're gonna get a bunch of strange deja vu like, "don't I know you from somewhere?" glances. I'm taking that one small ad and running a bit with it here. But still, you get my point. I'm hoping the plane lands.
Oh, and I watched that Lost: In Memory vid. Charlotte is sandwiched in between Boone and Eko. And I have to say that I'd prefer either of them to her looks wise. In an entirely non-sexual way, mind you. ;) Good grief, what an undesireable woman.
One thing I left out. The only hanging threads from where we left off on the island were: 1) Jacob and his pal, 2) What happened with the bomb, and 3) random remaining island mysteries like Alpert, etc. Besides the result of the bomb, which we'll find out either way, all of these things can be addressed in a reset timeline with the plane landing. As they all exist in the past regardless. Jacob and Alpert were both frequent visitors of the real world. So not exactly hard writing them into the picture. Same goes with any other dharma/island related folk.
For a while (up til before the finale) I was of the mind that they would re-set time and that the final scene we'd see would be that of Jack and Kate in the airport after landing crossing each other's path as total strangers and exchange a very brief and unknowingly meaningful glance. And cut to "LOST". For a chilling and bittersweet that would be, everything leading up to it would be kinda lame and pointless. But not the case if that glance is the start of the final season, and we then go on from there. I know that they are some on here who are dead against time being reset or messed with or paradoxes or whatever. But saying "who gives a shit?" to the psuedo scientific aspect of things (cuz seriously, I did that a long time ago), I think from a strictly storytelling standpoint, it would be much for the betterment of the show and the well-being/watchability of the final season. Also, how cool would it be to basically be able to bring back any character that's ever been on the show? I'm not done with you yet, Alex! ;)
I too want the plane to land. Possibly with the characters having some kind of deja vu type memories of their island life.
The only reason I don't want it to land is because I don't have faith in Damon and Carlton to write a compelling season that covers everything if they do that. There is too much that would change and not enough time to cover everything.
Also, it doesn't make sense to do it kinda because they spent a lot of time in the finale focusing on the future stuff. None of which will matter if they land safely at LAX.
It's interesting because it brings back Charlie and Locke. I wonder where this leaves Desmond and Widmore, Ben Linus, etc. If they don't land on the island then they don't go back in time and cause Ben to lose his innocence/become evil.
So many changes. Also, I just noticed, but we never found out how Charles Widmore and the others etc. got to the island.
All this is giving me an "It's A Wonderful Life" feeling.
Man, I really hope Damon and Carlton put as much thought in the final season as I have.
think maybe they'll switch between realities for the "flashes" instead of going backwards or forwards through time?
ugh.
i'm with Jorge (or Jorge's portrayal of Line Jorge). it'd suck to invalidate the first five seasons. so, i think that they must reaffirm the validity of the original timeline at some point.
Kimberley, I feel like the show has been setting up Brandon to win the entire season. I'm probably just resentful because my pick hasn't excelled lately.
I sympathize whole heartedly with you Jordan - it got up to 106-107° yesterday and it was a 90+° inside my house last night. LUCKILY I do have a piddly $80 window air conditioner which lowered the temp in our bedroom by 5+°, so both kids slept in with us (can't say WE got a great nights sleep but at least they did).
I agree that the plane landing is really the only thing they can do story-wise that will keep the story from being too predictable. I think it will land and we'll have an alternate reality thing going on, but I'm betting it will only last for 4-5 eps (like the flashes/time jumps at the beginning of last season). I can't see them doing more than that and thus omitting the island from the main narrative (not that shit couldn't/wouldn't go down on the island - the Others are still there - but the show is primarily about our Losties). As usual I imagine that whatever they come up with will have indeed something in common with the Dark Tower and It's a Wonderful Life, but if the last 5 seasons are an example, I'm pretty certain that the end product will be unique. Totally psyched! (and 5+ more months begins....now).
I only ever finished the first book in The Dark Tower. Liked it - been meaning to continue for...about 15 years now - lol. It's on my ever growing 'list' of books to read (next to my ever growing list of movies and TV series to watch).
Jordan - I feel for ya! Living in South Carolina, sometimes the humidity gets so thick and heavy it feels like you're breathing water... Awful!
Also, between the Oceanic Ad, Mr. Cluck's Ad and the America's Most Wanted clip, it would appear we have pretty strong evidence of the direction for Season 6, but then I watched the Comic-Con panel again and Damon said something interesting...
I'm paraphrasing here, but it was something like, "Like Season 1, our goal for next year is to make it so you really have no idea what's going to happen next."
Either these videos were meant to clearly point us in one direction, or it's all completely bogus and they're using the videos to set up a giant mindfuck!!!
Joe, I think Lindelof's comment fits in with the promos. As a said earlier, a re-set timeline in which the plane lands leads to a world of possibilities. From a storytelling standpoint, it's 1,000 times easier to surprise the audience and keep it guessing as opposed to the island/dharma stuff they were doing last season. Not even close. Lindelof is basically saying they aren't going to be as obvious and easy to read as they've been. I sure hope he's right. Because the show was so obvious and predictable, it was really losing a lot for me.
You know how Chuck names all it's episodes, "Chuck vs _____"? Well they stole that from the old Norm MacDonald sitcom that was on ABC years ago. I've been watching it and all the eps in season 2 are "Norm vs _____". Bastards.
Backtracking a bit here. But I'm pretty sure Jorge commenting on invalidating the past seasons was the writers taking a nice little jab at some of the more vocal fans out there.
- i'm excited for alternate reality LOST. i was pretty vocal about my disappointment in the finale. the introduction of our 2 gods seemed to take the whole show away from our losties and hand it to a pair of omnipotent beings.
i do think that we will probably get around 5 episodes of 'what if' and then they'll have to snap things back to the end of season 5. Otherwise i'm not sure how the whole plot with fake Locke and Jacob matters at all.
- sorry about the northwesters. i feel your pain a little. on my commute home tonight around 8pm, it was raining and still 85 and muggy. still, it beats winter.
- watched the 1st 2 episodes of 'Hung' tonight. i like Thomas Jane. i hope the show is a hit for him because he deserves a better career.
I reckon Jorge's question was the writers anticipating that exact question from fans and laying it to rest immediately, and is the biggest indication to me that they ARE pulling a move which will initially appear to be a reset, but I reckon it'll be a bit more than that.
Not sure I recall seeing this posted here. If so, I missed it, and sorry for a repost. But here is what seems to be an official trailer for the final season of Lost. Says it was shown at comic con. Warning, this one seems pretty spoilery. All I'll say is maybe the plane doesn't land afterall...
Doctor Who question -- I started watching the Eccelston season and Kiddo has become totally enamored with it. It reminds him of Ben 10. So far it's a pretty family friendly series, no bad language, no unnecessarily skimpy outfits for Billie Piper. Does it stay that way? Will it stay that way in S2 with Tennant? I know Torchwood gets pretty violent and deals with sexuality at a more mature level, but what about the Doctor?
Its a family show (at least that's how the BBC market it) - the only reason I haven't shown it to the Ace yet is b/c she tends to be pretty sensitive to scary imagery - and Who definitely has some high-octane (but fun I think) monsters and spookiness. The Doctor smooches a few people in s.2 but that's it for sexuality. Chris, Palmer, Ryan? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks for the Who-vian advice. It was exactly the sort of stuff I needed. Saucy will sail over his head. Knowing the kiss is coming will help me prepare an answer to any question, though I doubt one will be forthcoming. I'll take a non-sexual man to man kiss any day over sloppy slobbering heteros, which fortunately for me still grosses Kiddo out.
- thanks for the link Joe. they should archive all of the blogspot posts and make them viewable on the DVDs. "Over 3,000 hours of content featuring boobs and bacon"
- If Kate didn't kill her dad, will Sawyer have to kill him when he ends up on the island ala Anthony Cooper?
Interesting points many of which make sense - but I think it reaches too far in predicting and I think it will prove PARTIALLY true (like all Lost fan theories) in the end.
Gonna keep this short for the Heroes Haters. I like the show, mainly due to the comic book tie.
Jordan, I had put off watching the last four eps of Heroes until recently. I didn't have a problem with the finale because I thought Zachary Quinto was leaving the show. But the preview shows him back on the show, which leads me to ask, WTF was the point of doing what they did in the finale? So as to keep both actors on the show? Not that it wasn't stupid to begin with, but at least it made sense. A way to keep the character around with the actor gone.
Which leads to my main question. Why the f would they show that trailer?
It's no wonder Heroes ratings continue to fall. The point of a trailer is to arise interest not give away plot.
Anyone interested in MST3K 20th Anniversary Edition - 4 DVDs? I ordered a set for Chris and he already has those and I'm not really interested in them. Let me know.
I may never get off the TV, Netflix is now streaming past seasons of LOST! Now my loan out of Season 2 will not slow down my rewatch. Now if I can only kick the kid off the Roku box.
LOST question - We never found out how exactly the D.I. found the island did we? We are assuming it was through Hanso right (he must have found a way - or had knowledge of where Magnus Hanso and the Black Rock disappeared)?
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/316 says that the lamp post was created on a pocket o' energy and that whoever built it (DI??) knew about the Island and that a smart man figured out where the Island would be during an "event window."
no prob. just remember, that it doesnt tell us WHO built the lamp post or WHO figured out the windows to go to the Island. or WHERE they found out about the Island.
DarkUFO just posted an initial list of the Season 5 DVD bonus material and I must say, I really hope they add some more extras (at least to the Blu-Ray version) because this list is a little scant...
so, in "All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues," Hurley promises Walt a boat load of money in Backgammon winnings. did he ever pay up once he got back to LA??
It's funny you say that, because ever since season 1, I've always felt this this was one of those lines where it absolutely had to come to pass... somehow, somewhere, someway... and I'm still holding out hope that we will get a "Walt getting paid off by Hurley" scene at some point in Season 6.
Maybe Hurley decides to be an ass and give Walt a lifetime supply of Mr. Clucks Grilled Chicken instead!
I'm kinda digging these "Mysteries of the Universe" videos.
I didn't know if they were really going to tie it back into the cannon stuff from the show, but the second video that came out today pretty much confirmed they are.
- really like the 'Mysteries Of The Universe' stuff. A great blend of serious & tongue-in-cheek tone. The versions on the season 5 DVD are supposed to be longer too.
- wasting my time today on http://www.flickchart.com/ i'm not convinced yet because they seem to be weighing stuff strangely. i said i liked Deer Hunter once and it's in my no.1 position. Also i prefered 'Saw' to 'Shrek' and now i can't get it out of my top 20.
- tried to start my Twin Peaks marathon last night but the Season 1 DVD set doesn't include the pilot episode.
sorry that i have been MIA for so long. i have been super busy. hopefully you are all following me on twitter and facebook and junk like that. if you notice me not posting there, that means i am dead.
watching the first episode of disc four. Boone's wacky adventure with recreational jungle drugs.
anyhow, Locke and Sayid meet up in the jungle and talk about Weebelos. Locke gives Sayid a compass and Sayid puts in on the map with his right hand revealing a HUUUGE pinky fingernail.
To be fair to Boone... Locke didn't really tell him what that paste was... So really, if we're going to judge someone, it should be Locke for date raping Boone.
maybe Locke has been secretly pasting people for ages, that would explain why Kate's so batshit.
Wait.
Maybe Locke's been pasting himself and the past five seasons have just been him off his rocker... deus ex machina? i wouldn't be surprised if that happened...
Andrew - it's a rare boast, but the edition of Twin Peaks S1 that was released over here is superior in that it actually DOES contain the fabled pilot episode (and not the weird European version with some of a later episode tacked on in an attempt to make it self-contained)
I can call to mind four Buffy video games, of which I've only played two but none are really supposed to be particularly good:
The first, a side scroller for Game Boy Color. Walk, stake, walk, stake etc.
They made a third person action one for Xbox with all the regular cast except Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Chaos Bleeds, the multi format follow up with all the regular cast except Sarah Michelle Gellar. And Alyson Hannigan. And Emma Caulfield
Finally, the Nintendo DS game which I feel I can confidently sum up using the word "shit". It didn't see a release in North America and so nobody's bothered to write much about it on Wikipedia.
It appears there was also a Game Boy Advance title released before Chaos Bleeds and a cellphone game released afterwards, coupled with long running claims of there being a massively multiplayer Buffyverse game in the Obviously Terrible Games Pipeline.
I can't speak from a position of experience as I've only played the Game Boy Color side-scrolling game and the Nintendo DS game, but I imagine it's probably a fairly good romp according to MetaCritic. I promise you that you'll have seen worse games.
As long as you can handle three characters having different voices (especially since the same actresses voices Buffy and Anya).
Twitter has me ticked. I want to win Burn Notice items today as promised by BurnNotice_USA. I'm even wearing my Michael Westen t-shirt today and freaking Twitter is foiling me left and right.
Yup. Desiree sent it to me. You can see me in it here. It's really big 'cuz while I wouldn't mind Michael Westen tight on my chest, I'm not comfortable walking around in public in such a fashion.
Thanks to Jay and Colleen, I got a Burn Notice Comic Con t-shirt too. Fortunately, it matched the bathing suit I wore at the water park. I fear wardrobe malfunctions.
In the break room yesterday I was thumbing through some tabloid magazine. And saw that Tania Raymonde, Alex from Lost, is currently dating Jeff Goldblum! He's only about 50 years older than her.
Time Goodman on ABC's new upcoming show FlashForward:
"Today we saw the much-guarded pilot of "FlashForward," from executive producer David S. Goyer ("Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight," etc.), who apparently was so paranoid it would get on the internet that this is probably the only time we'll see it before it premieres. I certainly hope not, given my memory. And hell, things change - the title seems to have moved from "Flash Forward" to "FlashForward." Things creep up quickly. Anyway, this was the first time pretty much anyone had seen the final cut in its entirety. So, imagine being in a ballroom with a bunch of other critics for THAT. But it turned out well, if by "well" you mean this: It's kind of like "Lost" only more complicated.
OK, that's not exactly fair. But it's definitely going to take a commitment on the part of viewers. Because it's not just a serialized drama, it's one that's heavy on ever-changing possibilities (in a planet-wide event, everybody blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and the vast majority of them have visions - flash forward dreams, if you will - about what will happen about six months in the future). The pilot is dark and sets up a lot of complicated issues. But I'm certainly on board for more. Notice that sentence doesn't say, "I'm on board for all of them." I think "Lost" fans will be into this and ABC and Goyer promise that it will have that big screen appeal to it pretty much every week, so let's not nitpick on one of the fall's biggest buzz shows. That said, someone has already said it's like "The Nine," and everybody knows how badly that imploded. If there's too much complication without much revelation, there could be trouble. Right now, the buzz is good."
hey, guys! you can friend http://www.facebook.com/nbccommunity on facebook and watch the pilot to NBC's Community starring Joel McHale and be slightly disappointed!
it was... OK. could use some tweaking. but i guest most shows find their feet well after the pilot.

What's a Comic Con when it's at home?
Is there a punchline to that? Is a Comic Con a long con or merely a pigeon drop?

I was being sarcastic...
sorry :(

This is awesome!
Whoever the hell figured those two songs would go together was a genius.
Have extra fun for the rest of us Palmer! And watch out for line cutting Will Wheaton!
How was there a Lebowski Fest in my own city and I missed it?
I don't know if the US have a different attitude about Friends as us lot do, Ryan.
Over here you can rely on there probably being an episode of Friends on right now on any of C4's channels so it's not something we tend to look forward to as something that is ever-present and reliable for a few smirks if there's literally nothing else worth watching.
In fact - check out the Radio Times TV listing for shows with "Friends" in the title.
Note that "T4: Friends" is ALSO Friends but shown as part of a long and pointless programming strand.
In fact - I've just counted and between now and next week that's FORTY NINE episodes of Friends (not counting the repeats on E4+1)!
omg don't call T4 pointless. I watch it all the time.
unf steve jones.
It appears that it gives you a point.
- is "unf" a sound effect or an acronym?
- i'm not on the twitter and while part of me is sad that i'm missing some of the comicon news, i'd imagine trying to following a lot of people posting their experiences of such a sensory overloading event would just be chaos.
i'm going to keep up with the news at /filmcast. They posted photos of the Prisoner booth today. I want to see that miniseries NOW!
what days is the Lost panel?
- between all of the cable stations, Friends is probably on 16 hours a day in the US. not my cup of tea but it's there if you need it.
Stay up to date with Comic Con.

our bigger celebrities? our biggest celebrities aren't Big Brother contestants.
They were a Glamour Model with enormous boobs and a cringeworthy greek/australian singer who thought he was jamaican. oh yes.
But then again, you lot have Jon and Kate, so you're not perfect.
Let's not forget everyone's favourite tabloid slag, Jodie Marsh. Also, personally I could watch Friends for hours without getting bored, but i'm not sure i'd call it addictive.
I'm watching friends right now, but that's literally because there's nothing else on tv.
Obviously not a Hollyoaks fan then?
evidently.
almost met Jorge Garcia but my text messages were behind the times. all i got to do was walk by him while some kid pestered him on my way to meet up with Ralph.
yes, we literally did a "there's Jorge Garcia and, oh, there's ralph!!!"
i didnt want to be one of those guys who hounds celebrities. but i totally should have cuz that dude is the man.
having fun so far but this place is crazy busy.
oh, and we changed rooms to one without a translucent door.
oh! elizabeth mitchell. saw her at the "Wonder Women" panel.
@Palmer what's your twitter
I'm conjuring with this mental image right now.
And I LIKE it.
Screw those guys at Chronic-Con ; THIS is what it's all about.
At my mother's 40th party i was forced to dress up like Cher circa Turn Back Time and sing.
Most horryfying experience ever.
- i imagine "Yakety Sax" playing during both of these situations, and it's hi-larious.
- sitting at work, trying to keep my eyes open, is definitely better than fighting the crowds at Comicon. wait, i don't have a bunch of free swag, and i didn't have a near brush with Jorge Garcia. never mind.
It was a bit surreal (but funny) - lol
back to Lost -
Just noticed something in "Raised by Another" -
When Claire goes back to see the psychic a second time and he gives her the plane ticket for 815, at the moment when he says that the couple he found in L.A. are "good people", the eerie and haunting 5-6 note melody which you hear in S.2 in the D.I. orientation films (as well as elsewhere) plays for the first time that I've noticed.
Holli
Holli, John Barrowman from Dr Who and Torchwood. Squee!!
http://www.johnbarrowman.com/
Steph - read on Twitter about the autographs Alirio got 4 u - MOST EXCELLENT!
Holli -
Yeah I did also take note that he seemed extra surprised by the vision re: Aaron, and that could certainly be surprise at actually HAVING a vision for the first time.
The thing that piqued my thoughts was the music. Maybe it was just Cuselof being generally mysterious in S.1 - but it makes sense to me that this guy could be part of the same off-island network that Ben's woman-butcher-friend is part of. It just fit really nicely narratively and the distant sound of the music implied (to me) a tiny preview of storylines (Others and Dharma) to come.
it's 4:30 am and we're getting ready to be "late" additions to the LOST panel line.
i hear Ed Hochuli's been out there since last night.
pretty sure that Alirio's been there for an hour already and Jay and Colleen and all them even longer.
New ARG.
http://www.lostuniversity.org
...seems strangely reminiscent of the ARG from last year...
Can someone pot a link to the Lost panel video, whenever someone posts it? But if I see it first, I'll post it.
Thanks for the links Holli!
If the ads are saying what I think they're saying, that's a lot more spoiler-y than I was expecting... WOW!
Can't wait for the actual panel video!
Weird Lost-y stuff just appeared in my inbox.
Thanks Steph!
You guys are full of all kinds of good stuff!
Once all the Comic-Con vids are released, I'm going 100% spoiler-free until the premier...
By the way, I was just saw that the ABC.com video is the first in a series of 5 featurettes...
Here are the dates the other 4 videos will be released to the web:
8/4/09
9/8/09
10/15/09
11/16/09
Interesting days... 4, 8, 15, 16...
Perhaps MB can start a panel thread on the SPLOG so people who want to discuss this can do that. if it has its own thread then we can discuss it without seeing the spoilers in the other threads.
Yeah, that's neat.
Just FYI guys...
Ryan just uploaded the Panel audio to the Transmission Blog...
Enjoy!
HOLY FUCK. that LOST panel was great.
and all it took was five and a half hours in line.
www.damoncarltonandapolarbear.com was a highlight.
the Jorge v. Michael Emerson verbal sparring was hilarious too. in fact, the whole thing was pretty f'n fantastic.
especially the t-shirt that they gave bob stencil.
also, got Mike Allred (and Laura Allred) to autograph my Madman Volume 2. awesome.
Not as cool as the lost panel but I ate at Pierre(sp?) Frickin Chang's and it was delicious!
Palmer did Jorge mention Ham Menu?
that DOES sound good. :)
in-n-out is awesome, btw.
and go watch some LOST Babies on youtube. funny stuff (and featured in the panel).
no ham references that i can recall. sadly.
missed most of the Jay & Jack panel. clif have that footage up yet?
Jordan you totally scooped Comic Con for us with your Ian Somerhalder encounter. Here's what Ryan tweeted and Alirio re-tweeted.
"Ian Somerhalder at Vampire Diaries panel: "If they will let me, I do have the opportunity to return to 'LOST,' Boone would be back."
Holli
Somebody stole my Lost Babies idea that I've mentioned on multiple occasions on this blog!!! Ok, my thing had to do with all the children on the show. But still, I referenced the Muppet Babies theme song!!! (shakes fist)
Three relatively new action figure Lost Parody episodes that I have yet to post on the blog. Funny as always. But be warned MB. You might not like what the Star Trek ep says about the show. :P Rather funny and on point commentary on Locke trying to convince everyone to come back in the last one.
Yankees ep
Star Trek ep
Twilight ep
I'm always impressed with all the action figures they get for these things? Where do you get Bill and Ted toys from? lol.
Sounds like Comic Con was a blast. Be sure to post some pics when you can guys.

Holli
Making my way through all the Comic Con stuff on the webz! (wipes brow)
There is now a thread on the boards to discuss the panel and all things Lost from Comic Con AND there is a new thread on the SPLOG (thanks for the suggestion Chris).
DISCUSS!....
Hoooolly crap. I'm thinking this has to be a joke, right?

Sadly, I can't have bacon. Holli, got any good low-carb and low-fat recipes? I'm tired of grilled chicken salad.
- so did anyone figure out LOST yet?
Holli
hey, everybody.
anyone done the LOST University thing? is it anything fun? anything on the poster??
and... setup.
DOH!!!!!!!
kablama-LAME-o
(think before you click McFly!....)
back to work tomorrow. yuck.
so, let's start talking LOST something fierce. or at least youtube clips of fluffy animals singing showtunes and fighting ninjas. k?
Okay so if Jack's plan works do you think we can make Nikki and Paulo miss the flight?
Finally saw the Lost comic con panel.
The most syndicated show in the U.S. has got to be either Family Guy (Cartoon Network, CW, and TBS) or Scrubs (local station, Comedy Central, WGN, MTV).
wow. new prisoner trailer makes it look pretty darn good!
AMC's The Prisoner based off of the crazy batshit insane The Prisoner from yesteryear.
mb, did you see Hangover yet?
did not unfortunately - I'll probably end up renting it. Actually, one great thing about hooking computer to TV is that I can watch iTunes movie rentals on the LCD now. And rentals are for like 30 days - nice.
RE: The Prisoner -
yes, it does indeed look good. I had somehow missed that Ian McKellen was starring - most excellent. You can watch the 10 min. Comic Con preview and several other videos at amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner
mb, i take it that you have a good internet connection then. :)
the (original) prisoner is definitely on my "to watch" list. but first i must finish the great LOST rewatch!
Palmer - Internet connection at the house has generally been good. Had to trade in my modem last week b/c it kept randomly disconnecting, but things seem to be stable now. Don't love Comcast, but in general I have had few problems (unlike some others I understand)
Hey Mir, where did you find the comic-con video with the Michael Emerson audition?
Granted I haven't really had time to search extensively, the only one I've found online was missing the audition tape (along with the other videos)!
JoeSC here's the Michael Emerson Hurley audition.
Here are the other main videos.

AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
Check out the Oceanic Air commercial that is after the Mr. Cluck's ad.
"30 years with a PERRRRRRFECT safety record."
If that is any indication. I think it's safe to say the mother-effing plane is going to land.
Jordan, I am so sorry you don't have a/c. Every time the power goes out here in summer, Big Ed threatens to go rent a motel room.
Kimberley, I feel like the show has been setting up Brandon to win the entire season. I'm probably just resentful because my pick hasn't excelled lately.
As for LOST, all I'm going to say is Dark Tower. You still have 5-6 months to read the 1000s of pages.
Holli
I know you were talking about the SK series, but check this out.
can you make spaghetti in a crock pot?
The sauce but not the noodles.
NOODLES!!!!!!!!
Not as hot as yesterday. But still, ugh. At least I'm not working.
I'm starting to lean towards the latter...
- rock on blogspot!
I'm sorry but I'm Tom Jane.
Not sure people care anymore. But here is the trailer for season 4 of Heroes.
Not sure if it looks necessarily good. But two words. T. Bag.
Whether Hung is a hit or not, HBO just renewed it for a 2nd season. Along with renewing True Blood, and yet another repetitive season of Entourage.
Even though Entourage has been pretty crappy so far this season, I still love it.
For anyone watching Big Brother, how awesome are Jeff and Jordan? I dislike pretty much everyone else in the house. Russell is growing on me though.
Oops.
That "Oops" was #108
KABLAM-NO!
Lol Jordan - that had me going until the last 20 secs.
nic cage knew
Hahaha. Sorry. Couldn't resist.
interesting Aaron discussion over on the BBS. just sayin'.
also, when might we be treated to the dulcet tones of our two favorite lady podcasters?
Doctor Who question -- I started watching the Eccelston season and Kiddo has become totally enamored with it. It reminds him of Ben 10. So far it's a pretty family friendly series, no bad language, no unnecessarily skimpy outfits for Billie Piper. Does it stay that way? Will it stay that way in S2 with Tennant? I know Torchwood gets pretty violent and deals with sexuality at a more mature level, but what about the Doctor?
Holli
Its a family show (at least that's how the BBC market it) - the only reason I haven't shown it to the Ace yet is b/c she tends to be pretty sensitive to scary imagery - and Who definitely has some high-octane (but fun I think) monsters and spookiness. The Doctor smooches a few people in s.2 but that's it for sexuality. Chris, Palmer, Ryan? Correct me if I'm wrong.
I just remembered there is one man-to-man smooch (mild) in the S.1 finale.
There is a man to man kiss but it does pass non-sexually:
A character kisses Billie and then, almost as if to appear fair, kisses the Doctor as well.
a very young child is more likely to just find this funny.
There's some saucy humour with Captain Jack towards the end of S1 but no more so than some of the naughtier episodes of Friends.
It's designed to go out at around 6-7pm ish on one of our major national channels, if that helps.
Holli

I watched this episode today. it's harmless, this is about has hardcore as the sex stuff gets in the show.
Rewatching Ecclestone Who seems really weird. Tennant is my Doctor.
We just watched the episode with Simon Pegg running Satellite 5 for the beast that looks like it was from Alien. Made me think of Fox News.

American new channels have their very own version of The Mighty Jagrafress of the Holy Hadrajassic Maxaraddenfoe?
Fancy.
Happy Sunday Blogspotica!
I figured some of you may find this pretty interesting.
They're gathering fan feedback on the show to help them in determining what will be included in the Season 5 DVD set. Make your voices heard!
I even gave a nice plug to the SaS blog!
Big-ass theory about Season 6 and what Lost is all about
Interesting points many of which make sense - but I think it reaches too far in predicting and I think it will prove PARTIALLY true (like all Lost fan theories) in the end.
"Over 3,000 hours of content featuring boobs and bacon"
how do i pre-order?!
Dominic Monaghan On Charlie's Return To LOST.
Back to Lost.
Anyone interested in MST3K 20th Anniversary Edition - 4 DVDs? I ordered a set for Chris and he already has those and I'm not really interested in them. Let me know.
Holli
Have I mentioned that Holli is amazing?
Holli is amazing.
THIS is the set in question. Laserblast is particularly splendid.
a shipping truck crash on the highway?
No, WOOT! Though if in Tennessee you can harvest road kill you can harvest DVDs as well.

like Ben Linus?
like Bobbleheads?

the first part of the "Mysteries of the Universe" on the Dharma Initiative.
The 2nd part should be out tomorrow, 8/4.

I may never get off the TV, Netflix is now streaming past seasons of LOST! Now my loan out of Season 2 will not slow down my rewatch. Now if I can only kick the kid off the Roku box.

LOST question -
We never found out how exactly the D.I. found the island did we? We are assuming it was through Hanso right (he must have found a way - or had knowledge of where Magnus Hanso and the Black Rock disappeared)?
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/316 says that the lamp post was created on a pocket o' energy and that whoever built it (DI??) knew about the Island and that a smart man figured out where the Island would be during an "event window."
kind of nebulous but sounds like the DI.
DUH MB!!!
forgot about The LAMPOST (dummy)!
need coffee
thanks Palmer!
no prob. just remember, that it doesnt tell us WHO built the lamp post or WHO figured out the windows to go to the Island. or WHERE they found out about the Island.
but i don't really mind that too much.
Hey Everyone!
DarkUFO just posted an initial list of the Season 5 DVD bonus material and I must say, I really hope they add some more extras (at least to the Blu-Ray version) because this list is a little scant...
so, in "All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues," Hurley promises Walt a boat load of money in Backgammon winnings. did he ever pay up once he got back to LA??
as an aside "All the Best Daddies Have Cowboy Issues" is an awesome title for a porn.
/not that there's anything wrong with that
did he ever pay up once he got back to LA??
It's funny you say that, because ever since season 1, I've always felt this this was one of those lines where it absolutely had to come to pass... somehow, somewhere, someway... and I'm still holding out hope that we will get a "Walt getting paid off by Hurley" scene at some point in Season 6.
Maybe Hurley decides to be an ass and give Walt a lifetime supply of Mr. Clucks Grilled Chicken instead!
We have the 20th anniversary edition as well. It's the only one we have for the moment. Between MST3K and Buffy graphic novels, Morgan is breaking me.
hey, fellow video gamers.
http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/23161 has a deal on the new batman game, Arkham Asylum. $48.
hey, fellow LOSTies.
any cool LOST stuff going on? how's the new Mysteries of the Universe video?
Palmer, see if you can find this new and cheap.
Paula Abdul's not returning to American Idol while Kara DioGuardi is.
Hopefully you lot will get loads of bollocks about how it's all ageist like we have with a similar situation over here.
new? yes. cheap? oh, heck no.
maybe pick up two used copies in case one goes bad?
I'm kinda digging these "Mysteries of the Universe" videos.
I didn't know if they were really going to tie it back into the cannon stuff from the show, but the second video that came out today pretty much confirmed they are.
I'm psyched for part 3!
part 2 is pretty great.
- really like the 'Mysteries Of The Universe' stuff. A great blend of serious & tongue-in-cheek tone. The versions on the season 5 DVD are supposed to be longer too.
- wasting my time today on http://www.flickchart.com/
i'm not convinced yet because they seem to be weighing stuff strangely. i said i liked Deer Hunter once and it's in my no.1 position. Also i prefered 'Saw' to 'Shrek' and now i can't get it out of my top 20.
- tried to start my Twin Peaks marathon last night but the Season 1 DVD set doesn't include the pilot episode.
I may need this shirt. If only it had Jon Hamm's face on it as well.

sorry that i have been MIA for so long. i have been super busy. hopefully you are all following me on twitter and facebook and junk like that. if you notice me not posting there, that means i am dead.
@steph and Kirk,
Stevi played that game i think she said that it wasnt that good and she is a hardcore buffy nerd (is there a term?)
Thanks ralph-. I won't waste my money then.
Kim, I'm voting Jeanine.
watching the first episode of disc four. Boone's wacky adventure with recreational jungle drugs.
anyhow, Locke and Sayid meet up in the jungle and talk about Weebelos. Locke gives Sayid a compass and Sayid puts in on the map with his right hand revealing a HUUUGE pinky fingernail.
hrmmm...
To be fair to Boone... Locke didn't really tell him what that paste was... So really, if we're going to judge someone, it should be Locke for date raping Boone.
So maybe S6 can be Locke wacky pasting all the 815ers and Ben. Think you know these people, think again!
Holli
Kim, when are we getting a new podcast and post?
Holli
maybe Locke has been secretly pasting people for ages, that would explain why Kate's so batshit.
BUT YOU GET TO BE THE PUPPET!?
Chaos Bleeds does indeed afford you the chance to once again enjoy the presence of Sid the Dummy. Rejoice?
Do you get to play as him?
I do believe Puppetshow was the first good Buffy episode. So, I should buy Chaos Bleeds, Chris?
I can't speak from a position of experience as I've only played the Game Boy Color side-scrolling game and the Nintendo DS game, but I imagine it's probably a fairly good romp according to MetaCritic. I promise you that you'll have seen worse games.
As long as you can handle three characters having different voices (especially since the same actresses voices Buffy and Anya).
twitter is down! OH MY GORSH!!!!!!!!
meh.
I, of course, mean Actress - singular.
In fact it's the same woman who voiced Buffy in that clip for the proposed animated spin-off
Twitter has me ticked. I want to win Burn Notice items today as promised by BurnNotice_USA. I'm even wearing my Michael Westen t-shirt today and freaking Twitter is foiling me left and right.

I blame Alirio's hacker.

holli, is that t-shirt the comiccon one?
Yup. Desiree sent it to me. You can see me in it here. It's really big 'cuz while I wouldn't mind Michael Westen tight on my chest, I'm not comfortable walking around in public in such a fashion.

mb, i like the picture alongside the article!
strange!
Thanks to Jay and Colleen, I got a Burn Notice Comic Con t-shirt too. Fortunately, it matched the bathing suit I wore at the water park. I fear wardrobe malfunctions.
People of a certain age, prepare to weep. WEEP!

In the break room yesterday I was thumbing through some tabloid magazine. And saw that Tania Raymonde, Alex from Lost, is currently dating Jeff Goldblum! He's only about 50 years older than her.
yeah. that's gross. i can understand him being attracted to her. but he should know better than to date her.
speaking of creepy old men, this guy blames all the child pornography on his computer on... his cat.
although, maybe the cat didnt know how to spell kitty?
Has anyone listened to the new Offical Lost Podcast with Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz?
I really enjoyed it!
Absolutely zero spoilers, but really cool info about Comic-con and their history with the show. Best OLP in a while!
OLP was good. i kind of spaced out near the end though.
new Where the Wild Things Are trailer.
Yeah, I saw that preview before Harry Potter last weekend. LOVED the they used Arcade Fire!
It was absolutely perfect for that trailer and got me kinda pumped for the movie.
Buckwheat talks about his favorite things
good morning, internetica. que pasa?
- what's happening blogspot?
- anybody seen GI Joe yet? GI Joe was huge for me as a kid so i want to see it, even though Steven Sommers is THE WORST!!!!
- THE WORST!!!!
gastrointestinal joe looks really bad.
not looking forward to that one.
now, District 9 looks kind of cool. hope it delivers!
hey, guys! you can friend http://www.facebook.com/nbccommunity on facebook and watch the pilot to NBC's Community starring Joel McHale and be slightly disappointed!
it was... OK. could use some tweaking. but i guest most shows find their feet well after the pilot.
I'm only bout 10 minutes in but I'm loving the Joel McHael and John Oliver interactions.
