Cool. Downloading now.

Also, I got an email from ABC that they are having a contest to see the first few minutes of the premier episode. They are going to send out USB keys with the first few minutes of the show to 815 people. It's under the sweepstakes portion of the ABC Lost page.

memphish said...

Great an official spoiler, tho I gues once it's aired on the beach it's going to be hard to avoid minute by minute breakdowns.

Thanks for the birthday wishes and the TLI plus Jimmy to enjoy.

Welcome back Jimmy! Great to hear some new material!

Holli - I've gone completely dark on LOST news for the last couple of months. My enemies list will consist solely of those that spoil me on Season 6!

It really is getting close to LOST, isn't it? Woo hoo!

SEATTLE JIMMY!! that was awesome to find in my iTunes. big fan of James' podcasts. good stuff.

happy new years eve, everybody!

Happy New Year, guys.

The podcasts were on the ipod. I don't know what I was doing. But now I can't get the ipod to connect to the internet. I'm afraid I'm going to have to set up a call to apple support. It might be complicated.

I have netflix now. Isn't there a way to import your friends or something so you can see what your friends are watching and reviewing?

Unknown said...

Steph,

I only way I know of is the friend email invite. Scroll to the bottom of any Netflix page and click on Friends. There you should see in the small menu bar at the top an option to invite friends.

Also at the bottom there is a link to add what movies you've rated and such to Facebook.

PalmerEldritch said...

not sure about that, steph. but you sure can request a cd from Netflix to let you watch Netflix streaming on your PS3. *hint hint*

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYBODY!

Many Margaritas and a couple of rum drinks were had lastnight. good stuff. i'm a girl drink drunk. but at least i'll admit it.

anyone do anything resoundingly weird for NYE? like puke out the side of a moving helicopter? puke ONTO a moving helicopter?

Stephanie said...

Palmer, I now have that disc thanks to Jordan. Awesomeness!

Anyone have any suggestions as to what to stick in my queue? Didn't I just do this?

We drank punch, ate ice cream and cookies. No spirits. We watched District 9, X Files, Fringe, and a Rifftrax. Then I begged to be allowed to go to bed at mid-night thirty. I'm old and boring.

PalmerEldritch said...

we're enjoying Dexter. Seasons 1 and 2 are on Watch Now. But that would ENTIRELY inappropriate for Morgan to watch.

Stephanie said...

Entirely inappropriate for her yet right up her alley. I think we'll stick to Fringe and the X Files.

memphish said...

I'm really disappointed they did a Lost Last Supper. After BSG they really shouldn't do those anymore.

I hope everyone else's 2010 is starting off better than mine. After a brilliant start at the beach we arrived home yesterday to find our furnace in the main part of the house refusing to light so the house was 55 degrees and it went down to 22 last night. Then today after 80 minutes of tumbling dry I found out a pen had been left in the laundry and decided to loose its glory in my month old dryer. And of course my favorite item in the laundry took the biggest hit. Anyone want to take bets on what no. 3 crap thing for me will be?

memphish said...

Excellent suggestion, only I'm not a big ice cream person. There is beer in the fridge though. I probably should take care of that.

The heater guy got here hours earlier than I expected and I have to say I think I just heard it turn on as I sit here in the very cold office typing. The first part he tried didn't work. Please oh please oh please let it have been that part.

Also on a good note we did have coffee and cream in the house this morning. We haven't gone grocery shopping yet, so that was a good thing.

P, it makes me giggle to know that you watched Jersey Shore. I don't know why, but it did.

Well I know what #3 is. First the cat and dog got in a fight. Both were ok, but then the cat disappears, in the house. I spend 30 minutes looking for her only to find her inside the fireplace up the chimney doing her Santa impression apparently. So now cat and I are soot covered. Not too much 'cuz it's one of those gas fires that came with the house and we never use it. And now I'm trying to figure out how to block it with no success so far. In the meantime there's still no groceries in the house as a result.

1/4/10 I salute you with a Bronx cheer.

Holli, is Memphis supposed to get ice Thursday too? I might get snowed in at work. I've already lived through that hellish nightmare in 96. Imagine being cooped up with your co-workers for days. It's horrible. I'm leaving now to buy milk and bread like everyone else. At least I'll have TLI to listen to in line at Wal Mart.

memphish said...

Snow-blammo!

They say we'll get snow, not ice, starting Wed into Thursday night. I got to the grocery today and have stocked up on necessities including things that can be grilled should the power go out. The worst thing about Thursday snow is it's going to cause me to reschedule my hair appointment. Freaking snow!

memphish said...

Having rewatched almost half of S5 I respectfully disagree. I'm enjoying the episodes as I rewatch them, especially now that Charlotte is dead. But I will say that the episodes don't leave me longing for the next one they way they did so well in S1 and less well as the seasons progress. Of course I haven't gotten to that stinker "He's Our You" yet, so I may change my tune once again when I get there.

Also I liked the Damon and Carlton commentary on episode 1. It was overly repetitive vis a vis how they were doing time travel, but it had some interesting things to say about the characters, especially Jack as I prepare both to rewatch S5 and watch S6.

Holli

JonFromNKY said...

Holli and Steph - I feel for you guys. I'm in Charleston, SC and it's gotten down into the teens every night for the last week with no sign of letting up. My dog won't even go outside in the morning anymore! In my entire life I can never remember it being this cold for this long of a stretch here... Ri-f'n-diculous!!!

Jon - Thanks for sharing the video! I didn't realize they had updated it, so it was promptly sent to everyone on my email disto who matters. It will make it especially easy for the wife who really doesn't want to rewatch Season 5... In fact, I tried to engage her in a conversation on Jacob and the Man in Black while we were watching the first episode of Season 5 and she couldn't even remember who he was. I honestly think she blanked the entire finale from her mind. Her loss!

Kim - I'm trying to finish my rewatch of Season 5 tonight so I can get you my Losties votes tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy my favorite Lost-centric Family Guy bit EVER!

hey, britishers, be careful on account of all your snow and stuff.

how are LOST premiere plans shaping up? methinks i'll need some delicious takeout.

Chris JC said...

Outside my door.

PalmerEldritch said...

your neighborhood reminds me of both Doctor Who and Shaun of the Dead. is snow a rarity or just that much in such a wide area?

Chris JC said...

It's pretty common but we still go stupidly mental when it happens, shut down public transport services and send four million pictures of snowmen and thick blankets of snow on top of cars to the BBC (who keep begging for more of them - go to the site and see!)

This, however, is a bit of an anomaly - London isn't known for major thick snowfall, it has an unusual climate (that's not me being an up-myself Londoner, there was a programme about it a few years ago) that means we rarely get the same level of snow as other parts of the country.

As for the look of the neighbourhood, it's a fairly standard British suburban area, loads of places look like this, although Shaun of the Dead was filmed and set relatively near here. Doctor Who, at least modern Doctor Who is largely filmed in Wales - a different country but one with several areas that look exactly like this. And curiously some that look a lot like more northerly English cities like Manchester.

Sadly I can't think of any classic Doctor Who that occurred near here, but I used to live just a few minutes walk from here:

AUTON ATTACK!

(sorry about my sucky punctuation)

PalmerEldritch said...

for some reason, i'm thinking it reminds me of the episode where the Master is hanging out on a playground with a race of cat people or something.

which a quick googling (giggity) reveals as Survival which i haven't seen since the mid nineties or so.

Chris JC said...

(sorry to all the not-Doctor-Who people)

Survival was the last of the classic run and some of that was ALSO filmed a few minutes walk from where I used to live. All in all, none of it is further than ten miles from here. Except the cat planet, that is.

PalmerEldritch said...

Evil Cat from that episode. AWESOME.

Chris JC said...

Before he went all Hollywood.

Jordan said...

Loved this answer from Lindelof in the interview Palmer linked to:

"THR: Have you boiled "Lost" down to a central question that the finale needs to resolve?

Lindelof: The only question that's ever mattered to us is what is going to happen to these people. What is the character resolution? That the audience feels like the characters had an arc -- a beginning, middle and end. And I'm satisfied with that. All the crazy island mythology stuff, we love it, but it's like terrorists attacking Jack Bauer -- it's stuff that happens in order to tell cool character stories."

Pretty much sums up my view of the show to a tee. The mythology is fun. But who really cares when compared with the characters and storylines? It's like having one of the best pizzas in the world and only being interested in the crust. That's the way I view the show at least. I know there's a loud contingent online of more mythology and answer obsessed fans. So to each his own, obviously. But Lindelof echo's what I've been saying all along.

Going into the final season, hearing him say something like that comforts me. What makes LOST great is the characters and their personal storylines and archs. It's what separates LOST from other mystery shows like FlashForward and The Nine. I'm glad to hear that is the writers' focus for the final season, as it should be. It would be a recipe for disaster if they approached the final season with a checklist of minutiae (Hurleybird, etc) to answer, so as to appease crazed fans.

I got a good feeling about this final season. Hope it's not going to set me up for disappointment. And instead does what the writers are claiming they're trying to do. To go out on a vibe and note similar to the first season. Many great shows have had final seasons that pale in comparison to their early ones (BSG and The Sopranos, I'm looking at you). I'm sure whatever happens, there will be people not satisfied. Whatever. I can't wait. Let's get this thing started already!

Jordan said...

Two other things I found interesting in that interview. First off, Lindelof said season 1 was his fave season. Where as Cuse claimed season 5 was his. Really Carlton?

Also, Damon hinted at them using a new narrative device for this season. Any guesses as to what it will or could be? My guess is it will all be from Vincent's perspective.

memphish said...

I've always thought Vincent was the most important character.

That's a good quote. It really reiterates what Darlton has said all along about this being a character driven show. Certainly in S1 that's primarily the case but then that's because we didn't know anything about the characters and each week we learned more. Part of the problem in the overall story-telling arc of Lost is that it got to a point where we felt like we knew all there was to know about the characters, mid-S3 I'm looking at you. I also hate when characters act out of character. I think that's been Kate's problem ever since The Hunting Party. The independent, not going to settle down in the caves girl became the classic damsel in distress turned housefrau.

I'm trying not to think too much about S6 because I don't have any idea where they're going with it and I don't want to get wed to an idea. I'm just excited to see it. I trust the creators, and I hope that means I'll be satisfied with the season. It's always hard to do endings though, especially ones that leave no room for sequels. I hope to be content with what we get.

Holli

memphish said...

One other point though. I hope they don't abandon the Island's story for who Kate picks. While I don't need mytochondrial type details I do want to know what it is about the Island that makes the Others give up their lives for it and what Jacob is fighting for by continually drawing people to it. I guess I can live with "it's special," but that's pretty unsatisfying, especially when you've already set up these other, similar places like Ayers Rock which people don't live and die for.

Holli

Jordan said...

I agree Holli. They can't totally abandon the island story. The island itself is one of the show's characters. And just like Jack, Locke, Sawyer, and Kate. It's story has yet to fully play out either.

PalmerEldritch said...

i'm a tad concerned on the jacob/not-so-jacob front.

if jacob and not-so-jacob are "gods" then that could be sort of cheesy. if they're aspects of the Island or manifestations of something or people who were shipwrecked and became personifications of something, that might be OK. or really cheesy. but if it's Marduk battling Tiamat or something then i cant imagine it ending well. or if it goes the BSG-route.

i dunno. just hope it dont suck.

memphish said...

That's more than we got Jon. We got about 1/2 inch and the roads aren't that bad. Still there's a ton of wrecks where there's icy patches due to melting and refreezing and lack of sun. Tonight it's supposed to go down to 10 degrees and 8 the next night. This is not what I signed up for along with all the other negatives of living in Tennessee.

Not sure what's funnier. Mariah Carey's drunk acceptance speech for breakthrough performance at the Palm Springs Film Awards, of the fact that she won the award. scrdmnkydst said...

half an inch of snow?

We've had at least double that and it broke our country.

Usually it breaks our part of the country too. Amazingly enough today it didn't. Then again when 1/2 the county takes the day off it makes it easier for the rest of us.

NBC is in an out of control spiral down.

memphish said...

As long as NBC continues to fund Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock I'll ignore the rest of their crazy. Football Night in America works for me too.

Holli

Jordan said...

I absolutely loathe Jay Leno. He is anti-funny to me. That said, if he's going back to 11:30, I see it as a good thing. That means NBC has to actually program scripted television for the 10 o'clock hour again. Not that it means it will be any good. But at least there will be a couple extra shows out there to possibly be decent.

Stephanie said...

Here's our snow. We did get a little more that's slushing up the roads at this time. I have my snacks and a bag here at work in case I can't drive home. I think my all-wheel-drive Subaru will make it.

What's going to happen to Conan? I think Leno and Lorne Michaels have dirt on someone at the network.

Jordan said...

According to this article, Leno would go to 11:35, Conan at 12:05, and Jimmy Fallon at 1:05.

Kelly Jo said...

So basically all of NBC's late night scheduling last year was a complete waste of time?

Jordan said...

Anything that involves Jay Leno is a waste of time.

Palmer,

I just thought of that...1/08, and we're recording. The Numbers! The Numbers!

You're all pathetic with your snow pictures. That makes me laugh. I'll take pictures of my car in the mornings before I scrape all the snow off--or of the park I have to walk my dog in. Then you'll see some snow...

I can't complain, this winter has been pretty mild--but it's heavily snowed about 4 times since Dec 25th, which isn't a lot for us in the Great White North.

Losties tonight! I don't think we'll do a live ustream recording b/c it's a pain in the ass. I'll keep you posted.

LOST question at press conference

Apparently The State of the Union will not preempt LOST.

To that I will only say this. I like LOST. I really like LOST. To this point in my life it is probably my favorite television show of all time.

I like the president, (without getting political) but we tend to disagree on quite a bit.

Having said that, if LOST would've been preempted by the presidents address to the nation, and I would've had to wait a little longer, then that is what should have happened. LOST is just a television show. Even if you don't agree with, or like, the president, the office is more important than a television show (albeit my favorite show of all time). Someone said once "GOD, Country, Family." Everything else is secondary.

Off soapbox.

I like LOST.

17 bucks?!?! wow. Thanks for the tip-off Palmer! :)

and - a Spider-Man RE-BOOT?! Really? Already? This seems re-donckulous to me - but maybe I'm just old, I guess it HAS been 10 years since the first one.

A Spider-Man reboot? At this point who cares? Spider-Man 3 was not worse than X-Men Last Stand and they are doing prequels to that franchise.

WB waited 8 years before rebooting Batman. (What a piece of shit Batman and Robin was!)

They should go the X-Men route and do prequels if they want to tell the Parker's back story. Whatever.

Speaking of X-Men, my eX-girlfriend (pun intended) forced me to watch True Blood (which features the chick who played Rogue) with her. I in turn forced her to sit through the series with me.

During parts I was like fuck this show, but getting to season 2 was worth sitting through the slower parts of season 1.

Jessica and Jason's arcs were money. Jason and Andy are fuckin' ridiculous as a duo. It was good to see more humor in the show, although I don't think there should be much more than that.

Back to the comments about ABC wanting to do a LOST spin-off. Here is an article that will make you want to bang your head on your desk.

This quote I found especially disconcerting:

Benson and fellow marketing exec VP Marla Provencio say they would like to handle the "Lost" franchise much in the same way Paramount navigated "Star Trek" through the years.

"We do believe 'Lost' can be a 'Star Trek' for us," Benson says."

Clearly these people don't understand why the fans love the show. And are simply looking to find a way to further milk the cash cow dry. I can picture the meeting between the doofus execs now:

Doofus exec #1: "Man, it sure is going to suck losing such a strong mainstay such as LOST. Especially during these rough times for the tv business."

Doofus exec #2: "Tell me about it. Too bad the guys running the show are so set on ending it. If there were only a way to keep that rabid, dedicated fanbase."

D1: "I got it! What if we made a spin-off?! The fans would eat it up."

D2: "You're right! It is a sci-fi show afterall. And so was Star Trek! Makes total sense!"

D1: "Perfect. Now, let's think of more nonsense that we can slap the name Lost on to sell to these idiots."

Lost: The Next Generation is a really stupid idea. I already think what I believe Lost is going to do Season 6 is stupid, so TNG is not too different.

The ONLY way I Lost TNG could work is if like Scrubs did this season they bring back actors from Lost. Without knowing how the series is planning to end, can't really give suggestions about a follow up.

Still Lost TNG is not a good idea. Star Trek The Next Generation (I never watched it) makes sense. It's a bunch of people on a spaceship. After they die, different people will take their position on that spaceship. That is logical.

Lost The Next Generation does not make sense. You can't reboot the series with a new cast like Saved By the Bell the New Class.

Fuckin' shit!

I just went to the ABC website to enter the Message in a Bottle contest and they had a pretty big casting spoiler listed as "Breaking News" at top of the page... Not terribly spoilery, but definitely something I was not expecting for next season!

I avoid every piece of LOST news since Comic-Con and 3 weeks before the premiere I go to 1 freakin' (ABC Sponsored) site and there's a spoiler smacking me right in the face (labeled as breaking news no less).

That's it! This is the only LOST-related site I'm visiting until the finale... Who's with me?

I friggin hate Jay Leno.

JoeSC said...

BTW... T-Minus 3 Weeks!

RE: Journey Cover - Did these kids have to audition or did the school just trust that they could play? That was just awful!

RE: The Saban Statue - I understand that every 'Bama coach gets a statue, but don't they usually wait until the coach is gone?

RE: The LOST Spinoff - Has there ever been a bigger money-whore than Disney? This doesn't surprise me in the least... I wouldn't mind a video game or a book that explored some of the deeper mythology of the island, but apparently there are no more sacred cows.

RE: Spiderman Reboot - They don't need overhaul the entire series. Just get rid of Kirsten Dunst. Now that I think about it, Spidey 3 was pretty terrible... Not as bad as X-Men 3, though. That was downright unwatchable!

RE: Willy Wonka Kids - Is it just me or does the guy who played Charlie have one of the weirdest f'n moustaches of all time. I can't tell if it screams porn star or child molester... Definitely not child star, though.

RE: Conan - Never been a huge fan, but I have to give it to the man. He has some balls. It takes a lot to tell a network to go fuck themselves when you don't even have anything else in the pipeline. I don't know where he's gonna land, but he'll have my full support.

RE: Fringe - How weird was it to see a "new" episode that was just an unaired episode from Season 1. Two new Fringe's in one week? Get it before it's back on hiatus again!

X3 was shit. The least hated on piece of shit of all time.

I don't understand why it doesn't get hated on more. I enjoyed Superman 4. It was crap, but it was funny and campy. X3 was crap. It should be rated lower than Superman 4. X3 didn't need to be an X-Men movie. It was just a piece of shit and they inserted X-Men characters acting out of character in the movie.

That movie pissed me off from the opening scene with Sentinals (I think it was really the Danger Room I never brought myself to watch that piece of shit again) to the final scenes (I'd be doing you a favor by spoiling it so you'd steer clear from this POS, but I don't spoil things). I was so pissed I was the first person out the theatre when the credits started (later found out there was a hidden scene at the end).

I guess I accidentally spoiled the first scene. Sorry.

Porn molester?

also, JoeSC ain't kidding. I wouldn't even go just to see how obvious it is, it really is just Right There.

good idea: princess leia in a star wars burlesque show.
bad idea: c3p0 and jabba the hutt in a star wars burlesque show.
wtf?

in non-burlesque news, i may have gotten spoiled on some LOST stuff but i'm hoping it's horribly wrong. dont even look at the promo pictures in a semi-spoiley area of the internet cuz they may have spoilery captions underneath. boo.

X3 wasn't very good. but it wasn't as horrible as it could have been. could have had more Halle Berry trying to act in it. *shudder*

and, chris, the combination of porn star and child molestor you were looking for was clearly the Star Child.

i sort of feel any continuation of LOST may diminish LOST proper. cuz it pretty much has to be about The Island and its crazy magics. either that or a Hanso Institute spinoff or something. Dharma Institute: Dharma Academy or something. blech.

btw, i'm sort of obsessed with Dragon Age.

oh. and Conan's just saying "you're not moving me or i go" not "bye." right?

I never liked Leno a lot but him on the Tonight Show was watchable.

Never watch Letterman even though he's funny I never liked his show much.

Kimmel I like and watch partly because he's such a big LOST fan and partly because his sense of humor is similar to mine. Good show.

Conan at 1230 was the shit. I mean I loved that show. Him on the tonight show has been garbage. Even though he's had those moments that reminded me of the good days he acts too corporate I guess since the show is earlier.

Jimmy Fallon seems like a good guy but he's not good at standup. Plus he helped to ruin being a RedSox fan.

Good for you Conan I'll watch you if you go to FOX but nothing will ever duplicate your 1230 show in NY.

Kyle from Kentucky said...

And Carson Daly I couldn't care less about. He should eat something though god he's 103 lbs. So skinny.

You'd be hard pressed to make X-Men 3 worse than it was.

X-Men 3 was so bad that I coined the term X3 to mean destroy a franchise.

For example:
Let's hope Damon and Carlton don't X3 Lost with its final season.

or

It is very likely ABC will X3 lost with its desire to prolong the show past its end with a spin=off/Next Generation show.

Don't get me wrong, Lost TNG could be good if done right. But there is such little room for error that I do not have high hopes for it (if it happens).

Jesus Christ "Kid", we get it. You don't like X-Men 3. Get over it.

i'll tell you who doesn't like X3. the dude who played Cyclops? wtf was that all about?

i know that he was busy making Superman: The Regurgitation but his storyline was pretty dumb.

Palmer,

I logged in and started the day you posted. It's pretty interesting. I like it so far. It's not just recycled information that you already know. It's elaboration on some of the elements introduced. I like it. It reminds me of some of the cool shows on the Discovery Channels. If you like History Channel, Discovery Channel, etc. You'll like it.

Have you all seen the ad on tv about HughesNet where Cindy the flight attendant on 815 is the spokeswoman?

I guess this is the life the Others wanted for her? Maybe Zack and Emma will star in the newest Snuggy ad?

Unfortunately I haven't had time to do the LOST University thing yet, but I want to. Does anyone know how long they plan on keeping it up?

Kyle - I haven't watched any Late Night shows since I was in high school. I'd love to see Adam Carolla get a late night show, but he needs to be uncensored to work. If you haven't already, you should check out his podcast. Pretty f'n funny!

We appreciate you being the countdown timer. Just don't go turning into hieroglyphics the day of the premier!
